for those struggling to find "habs" you need to select "ship builder" and not "upgrade ship" then when in an open space you can select "add" to have the option to cycle through to "habs"

Hands down this was one of the most clean-cut explanations on ship building. They should have put this as their tutorial on how to build and customize ships.
It's Xbox (they don't do things that make sense!). Haven't played this, but Starfield looks pretty impressive 👌

I have found the same configuration elsewhere but guess what? Yours was, by far, the clearest and most useful step by step guide I have found. The bit about clicking on the pods (or whatever they are called) until they came up as what I want would have saved me an hour of raving at the screen if I had come to you first. Good work!
God this is so clean cut and straight to the point. I want to upgrade the frontier to get the feel for ship design and this is exactly the tutorial I needed!
On PC, double left click to select all for your ship. The game doesn't tell you for some reason.

I was so frustrated with the ship builder. It's not intuitive at all. Thanks for giving me exactly what I needed to know. Cargo was my main goal but now i can do even more stuff
Thank you! This was a very helpful video. I had a lot of trouble attaching the new weapons to their hardpoints. It was impossible to simply snap them in place under the access ramp. Instead I found that hovering over the ramp with the cursor brought up an "attach" option, which I selected, then selected the weapon to place there. That will probably be good info for anyone having difficulty getting their ship parts to snap to the intended location. Thanks again and safe travels!

An alternative to the science lab hab (if you don't really want the pharma station) is the computer core, which gives you one extra crew slot and three storage containers (two lockers and a chest).
How do you even get the science lab.
@@TheVoyagers. So if you go to the ship vendor by the kiosk, go into the ship building menu part of the upgrade screen. Once there, push A or whatever your interact button is on the empty part of the grid and it brings up menus to add modules that are available
Only thing I hate about storage containers on ships is that everything gets moved to cargo when you modify your ship.
I followed your tutorial making this which I think it's very much the best video to upgrade the frontier. I think adding an additional shield was the only thing I added but that's my preference. Great video 👍🏻

One tip - Use the infirmary instead of the science lab in the first step. Science lab gives pharma bench and bonus galley. Infirmary gives phrama bench and research lab.
The science lab also comes with a research lab I think you missed it. Also the ship comes with a research station anyways so this would be irrelevant

A lot of great advice, didn't know about the remote ship access as example...that's a game changer for sure. That said, is there a reason you went "turtle" instead of "train"? If you line the pods up behind your hab, you have a lot more mounting space. You can swap the under-slung storage 210 bays for the side mounted 300's...and if you want to put more into upgrading your engines, you can actually do more, as well.
Could you do one for the Mantis? I love the special dialogue you get using the Mantis, but the cargo space leaves much to be desired. Thank you!
I'm 30 to 40 hours in and some of these tips were super useful (the ship weapons and the landing NPC ship ones for example.)
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for your video. I was able to finish the Freestar Mission that requires taking out about 7 pirate ships that I was failing miserably on. After upgrading the stock ship I was finally able to pass this mission and I am also more confident now in my ship building abilities. I was hoping to get my free ship from finishing the Freestar quest line before upgrading anything, but with this tutorial I was able to destroy all the pirates and hijack one of their ships also during the battle so it was a win, win. Thanks again bud. 👌🏼
This is one of best and easiest to follow guide to ship building that I have found. Excellent guide that saved me a lot of experimental time as well as some other very helpful hints about game play.

Your video just helped me out because I got really confused and a little frustrated ship building as I save 20000 credits and couldn’t figure it out ended up only upgrading my reactor instead.

I don’t see the habs in the ship builder or upgrades section…does that show up later in the game?
When in 'ship builder' move the cursor off the ship and you should get the 'add' option. Which will bring it up. 😊

Starfeild is such an amazing and beautiful game I might be playing for years to come. But I have to make sure not play it too much otherwise I might burn out on it like I did with Skyrim around 2015 or 2016.
I figured out some of the stuff in the ship modifier by myself but found out after I was done that I couldn’t customize the inside of the ship manually and I bought two sleeping quarters by mistake. So thanks for helping with that.
Super helpful. I got stuck a couple times only because "pulling" off the old grav drive, I never deleted it. So I kept getting error msg. Third time was the charm. Worked just like the video , what a help. Safe space travels.

You did miss one opportunity though. Those attach points on the front of your side habs would be perfect for windows.
Anyone know why I cannot see option to buy better storage or habs in ship menu? All i see are the weapons, drive, reactor
Move the cursor off of the ship and it gives you the option to "Add"

Thanks for this; knowing about the workshop and science lab is really nice. My Frontier never really got any attention though - I found this video after a delicious Va'ruun Hymn landed in front of me on Luna... well those silly cultists needed to die. It was easy enough to add those two hubs, engines, and cargo to the Hymn, and then make it all match the sleek black style.

1) What am I collecting stuff for when I have such a limited storage capacity (ie when I'm full, my partners full, and the ship's full)?
2) Is there a depot (maybe a storage workbench like FO4) where I can stash my stuff?

Adding even 1 hab module requires an upgrade to your grav drive due to the mass. The first starport vendor you encounter doesn't supply a grav drive that meets the requirement. Unless my game is bugged, I've spent a good amount of time attempting to use the tips provided by this video to no avail.

I actually _did_ go with the Deimos habs, since I _do_ prefer how they look.
I scraped the preexisting hab for a Captain's quarters, which I put on the right side of the ship.

I'm a Big fan of the Crimson Fleet Ghost and I took your advice and started a new game with the Bounty Hunter background so that I could hijack a Ghost as soon as possible but encountered some very serious bugs while doing so the first one was when I arrived at Jemison for the first time after dealing with the pirates on Kreet and went to the ship technician he did not have the Crimson Fleet Ghost and I figured out that it was because I had returned to the Frontier after hijacking the Ghost and after undocking from the Ghost you can't dock with it again I did manage to solve that problem by using the Ghost to travel to Kreet instead of the Frontier and that solved the problem and don't worry this does not mean that Vasco can't come with you during your mission on Kreet and after getting to Jemison I fent to the ship technician and in order to upgrade the Ghost this is when a very big bug showed it's ugly face because even if I was able to customize and rename the Ghost after turning of and on the game the ship still had all it's upgrades but when I went to a the ship technician for a second time on order to add some more upgrades I noticed that the ship had been reset to it's default version in the shipbuilder and there is also a bug that traps you inside of an unfinished rendering of the ship this is a real pain to deal with and I really hope that the people at Bethesda can fix the problem very soon and I actually posted two videos showing the glitches on my TH-cam channel in order to show how broken it is

With your video and some fine tuning and also going to different worlds, I found that they all have different options available and I went to a paradise resort planet and found a cockpit that’s amazing. I made my frontier look like the uscss Prometheus from the Ridley Scott movie

@@ThislsaGoodldeaI was in the same boat as well. I think you need to delete whatever your looking to replace first and then the option to add will pop up which brings you to the shop
I thought so too, but there should be a button or key to press labeled "add". Make sure nothing is selected and you should see the options at the bottom right, then you can pick from these categories he mentioned
Tbh the entire video was useful I did not know you could teleport items to and from your ship
