How Stampy Handled the L For Lee Controversy Perfectly

  • Stampy's main Minecraft helper from all of his Lovely World let's play videos was caught doing awful things and got exposed online for these with the situation even being covered on the news. StampyLongHead then had the challenge of getting rid of his fan favourite character without upsetting his young fan base while also not being able to tell the truth of why Lee bear was leaving his series. There are many ways he could have handled this controversy which would have negatice effects on his viewers but he actually incorporated L For Lee leaving his Lovely World into the storyline of his videos. This was a really move from Stampy being able to spin Lee leaving into a positive thing leaving his subscribers with a nice final goodbye memory to the beloved character and the comments section is full of people saying goodbye to L for Lee without being scarred by the creepy things he did. This shows how professional Stampy is as a youtuber and that he really cares about protecting his audience rather than doing nothing and avoiding anything to do with L For Lee which would confuse his fans and they could end up finding out what happened in a worse way. Thank you to Stampy for being a big part of so many peoples childhoods and I hope more people continue to grow up watching your videos as they truly are special :)

Lee has a strong association with Stampy, primarily for the Lovely World series. He was first mentioned in the episode. Stampy's friend, L for Lee, also known as Leebear or just Lee. This is such a lovely video & i totally agree: Stampy should be highly praised for how it was handled! TRUTH IS - we had no idea what was going on until it all came to light in the media, we were mortified… it was kept from us until it was confronted.
We had a lot of conversations behind the scenes and it was always pointing to an ending for the Lee Bear charecter in Lovely World.
I was actually already playing Lee consistently, as over the years the person in question was busy with education before everything happened!
I want to clear up that it was 100% Stampy’s idea to remove Lee Bear from the story. Don’t believe anything else… he wanted to protect you all and this was a heartbreaking moment. Stampy did amazing (i’m bias but he is an incredible, kindhearted man who deserves so much love especially for this situation)
Polly, Fizzy and William (& HTT and Veeva Dash) are all played by a mixture of people these days. No 1 person representing each. Their personalities come from their written designs by Stampy. We just play the part.
    Barnaby plays himself.
thanks again for the video & all the wonderful comments. this is the first and last time I will ever comment on this 💛

TRIGGER WARNING: assault (sorry… not very cheerful this part so please do not read if you get anxious about these topics)
I want to reiterate that we only got the truth out of Lee AFTER we confronted him…
When more allegations came out, he denied them (to our faces!) then ultimately back-tracked and told us the truth.
we trusted him and that trust was truly broken.
then for him to lie, try to profit off it (using stampy in tags, keemstar, all that stuff) and STILL not take accountability is grotesque & unforgivable.
we feel deeply for the victims involved, even though this was many years ago now.
i’ve been wanting to speak up for a while but been too scared. also, you were all so young during this time, it didn’t feel right.

Honestly I'll always thank stampy for how he handled the Lee controversy, when Lee left I was only 10 and in the past had already been a victim of CSA and grooming so for the most part I would've understood a bit more than the other kids and that would've torn me apart, Lee was my favourite character on SLW so had i known what he had done I'd have been crushed
Luckily I learnt the truth when I was around 15, by this point Lee was a distant memory so it didn't hurt as much... I do still thank stampy though for letting us say goodbye to Lee on good terms, leaving us with a final memory I'll cherish forever even though I'm now 17 and don't watch stampy as much.

Aside from how Stampy managed this situation,
The thing I really like about Stampylonghead and Iballisticsquid, is that they're both really honest and friendly people, they can be a bit entertaining and funny in an appropriate way, they are able to make videos for most age groups and they generally now almost never to try encourage or force us to subscribe
Their videos are decent, but also relatively simple, but also not boring.
That's what I really like about Stampy and Squid.
You just don't see many TH-camrs like them now, modern content creators are just not the same anymore.
In fact, the chances of us seeing another creator like Stampy or Squid are small, we will never see another creator like them.
There's no denying they used to swear and do some silly things, we get that.
There's no denying that we've grown up, and that they're video styles may be cringy to some people, we get that.
Nowadays, there's starting to be more and more people and creators who are always trying to make or force us to like subscribe, doing and saying inappropriate, weird, and dumb stuff to try and garner attention.
And I just can't be bothered with Tik Tok, it's just too much for me to bare. There's too much weird stuff on there that makes no sense, and other weird showoff stuff that has just been done for the sake of garnering all the attention.
Stampy and Squid (and some others) have made many video's that are relatively simple (didn't have to be the most entertaining in the world) but still relatively entertaining, they never force us to like and subscribe.
They're two TH-camrs I really think deserved their play buttons the most.

Some of them don't even last that long at the height of fame before they go into a downfall, some may return to the height of fame after a downfall but then it doesn't last long before they go into a downfall once again.

In the days leading up to Lee Bear's official departure, Stampy's about page on his channel said that someone else was acting as Lee Bear in Lee's absence.

  • @HyperHimes
    @HyperHimes ปีที่แล้ว +1505

The reason why I love the way how Stampy handled this was because it focused more around the series than the controversy.
For example, if you all remember Blues Clues, then you should remember the sad moment when Steve left the show, only to be replaced by Joe. In the lore of the show, Steve left to go to College. However in reality, it was mainly to move on to bigger and better things. Usually taking the real concept isn't usually fitting for a kids show (Even though it's ironic because you can say that it sounds similar to going to College to participate in bigger and better careers) and doing it in the style they showed was more fitting.
With Stampy's Lovely World, it's a series usually meant for kids to watch and have fun watching. No one at that young of an age should be exposed to what dark things someone has done behind closed doors. The kids should be focusing on the show, laughing and having fun whilst the people who work on it make sure to keep everything in check for both the audience and the people working on the show.

Agreed. Most parents/adults nowadays tell kids the full, uncensored truth about the real world, while forgetting that these are just kids.
It's why we have 8, 9, 10 year olds going on TikTok sharing pronouns and whatnot. Most people don't protect kids anymore. They either are too honest, or get too political with kids.
My own mom was ranting to me about the presidential election back in 2016. I was 8 at the time. And, as someone who has an uncensored Liberal for a parent, even 6/7 years later, I applaud what Stampy did.
Stampy was, and IS one of the few people nowadays who actually recognizes the fact that kids are just that... kids. I also remember watching that video. And, although I was disappointed that Lee was leaving, it was a satisfying ending. He helped Stampy, so he needed to move on and help others. It made sense, and it was a good way to have closure.
Meanwhile my mom was telling 8 year old me about what sex was. See the difference?
Stampy recognized that his audience was just kids, and he censored the controversy accordingly. He is a good man, and he handled the controversies perfectly.

I don’t think he did anything actually…? Allegations were inconsistent (people say pedophile, jail, r*pist even, and some more complicated stories about less extreme offenses), but one of the allegations hit drama alert. I haven’t found evidence to suggest any kind of misconduct, and the allegations actually vary from conjecture to just bold-face lies (i.e. purposefully misleading video titles for clickbait, which spreads rumors when people read the title without watching the video). You would need to really dig to find a credible source with an actual story, and by that point there would be confirmation bias. Lee actually made a video (with a more in-depth statement in the description for obvious reasons) where he claims that all of the allegations were made by content creators with no connections to his life and an incentive to capitalize on his controversy (which was also slanderous). He basically says that nobody knows what his real life is like, and that he really just left the lovely world for his own mental health because of a breakup. This is the story that checks out the most, as stampy clarified in his own descriptions that Lee left because of personal issues. Always go with the most logical answer, especially in situations like this where we don’t know anyone that was involved personally.
p.s. If content creators really were/are slandering Lee with buzzwords, this video is one of them. Note how even the channel creator couldn’t tell you what Lee actually did…

There was no evidence for anything that people claimed, which seemed to be different depending on who was telling the story. No “victims” (sometimes there were victims) were ever identified or came out to address anything, and this was all happening after Lee was going through a breakup and lost motivation to continue. The allegations never affected his real life, but he was really worried about how children were being exposed to heavy subject matter, so he decided to step away. It was still Lee playing the character in the final video, and he just wanted to be a good friend to stampy and to protect the kids that watched him. I think this was around when I stopped watching Stampy’s Lovely World (I still watched some of his other series) and I remember I never found out the real reason why Lee left, but looking back on it now, it makes sense. It’s kind of bitter sweet, because after this, Stampy really never had real people helpers in his lovely world. Sure he had Sqaishy on a few times and he still did plenty of collaborating elsewhere, his lovely world remained mostly characters. William Beaver. Polly Reindeer and Fizzy Elephant are all just characters. I think this sadly had the effect on Stampy of, if this ever happened again, it would get harder and harder to cover up. But I think that’s why I stopped watching Lovely World, it stopped being friends just goofing off, it became more of a show. I get it now, what with that being the age when Minecraft died off, and a significant amount of Minecraft TH-camrs left were jumping ship or getting wrapped up in controversy. Suffice to say, Stampy made a choice that ultimately made his Lovely World impervious to controversy. Off topic a little, but it’s weird, after all these years I finally came back to Stampy, or Joseph, through The Bonus Points, a channel which feels like it’s just Stampy’s passion project, he and a close friend goofing off, the same reason I fell in love with Lovely World as a kid. Anyway, long comment done, I just felt the need to say this.

The subtle things I always noticed about Stampy, in comparison to other TH-camrs now. No 30 second sponsorship ads and I can't remember one time where he's taken a moment to ask to like the video or subscribe. I think he's one of the few that you can genuinely tell that he cares more about the people watching over how many subs or views he has. This video gave me chills like no other. Just seeing the scene of L for Lee leaving made my body temperature drop to what felt unhealthily low for several minutes. I have no real memory of the video but I felt such a strong sense of recognition like I was rediscovering a suppressed memory. I feel more at peace and acceptance about people in my life that were similar to Lee in a way of hiding the true dark side of them. It feels like stitching a gaping wound.
