Your excellent presentations show us the "hidden" power of Mac. Preview has amazing features that allow professional photographers (or anyone) to quickly & easily prepare and send photos. What a blessing! Thanks, Gary!
he actually needs to start help designing the software and design iMacs and apple products. As a die hard apple advocated and loyal iMac user for too many years, its been Gary who has made me realise I actually know nothing about iMacs potential yet also frustrated by so many simple things that apple seem to be failing at lately and the simplicity of apple design and navitation I used to love really annoyed me (like wanting to change something so simple as the colours of of my folders) and then I found Gary . This guy has changed my world beginning with keyboard shortcuts!
I have had Macs forever and was basically using Preview to do one or two things. Had no idea what it was capable of. Excellent information and presentation, as always.
Thanks Gary. I'm particularly cement-headed about the Markup Tools, and just last week I couldn't add a speech balloon with text in it to save my soul. Bookmarking this.
Crikey. I thought that I was pretty Mac knowledgeable but managed to not know how much preview had improved. As ever, Lots of super useful tips presented in a super clear fashion. Thanks so much. Have a good weekend
Thanks for this one, found a few more things I can do in Preview. I use the text mark up tools a lot. I find if I need to use arrows I have to draw them first. If I try to add more after I start to add text boxes the iMac freezes and I have to reboot by turning the iMac off at the wall Apart from that very good mark up abilities
Speaking of Markup... I use a combo of markup/text and your cliptools/saved clips to put a watermark on my photos. Just have to have saved the text of the watermark and it's easy to copy/paste it in the text box and then move it to the location I want. I also found out that if I do this twice, in contrasting colors, then put the darker version right on top of the lighter version, I can use the arrow keys to slightly offset it so I get a bit of a 3D effect.
Excellent and VERY helpful. I've been a Mac person for decades, and yet am constantly amazed to learn new things about apps I thought I knew. Thanks for making this!
I always considered preview as pain because I would accidentally open psd files which I want to open in an editor program. Now I see the value of preview. Thanks.
Another thing I do is use the print command to open a document in Preview. You then can do things to the document you cannot do in the free version on Adobe Acrobat.
Can you also use Preview to rotate the image only a few degrees, for instance to level the horizon in the picture? As far as I see it can only rotate every 45 degrees.
Hi Garry. Do you have a video on how to scan a draw from a book and paste it to keynotes or other app and then able to edit it. I could not find a solution and your tip would be great.
if you open preview to view photos in "Icon view" from a folder of many photos, how can you use the arrows left and right to switch to different photos with out clicking out of each one individually? Also, when when you plus in a USB drive, doesn't the system make a sound when it is connected?
@macmost when you plug in a USB C drive in the side of the laptop. Why is there no sound indicator that it is connected, like a windows pc. I'm new to Mac.
@@miketorre16 Why questions are difficult to answer. I suppose you'd need to ask Apple, but I'm not sure how'd you get an answer from them. I'm sure it is just a design decision like many others.
Gary, I’ve been capturing a ton of screen grabs off Facebook so I can extract the text from people’s comments and collect it all in one place, as text. Is Preview the best app for this job?
Not sure what your goal is here. But you can just select and copy and paste text from a web page. So why do all of the extra steps of capturing screen grabs and extracting text from them?
I really don’t understand why Apple removed magnification tool from iPhone’s Photo app but macOS still has it. It’s a very useful feature but I only used it on iPhone
How do you delink photos app from google photos. If I delete a photo from my google app, it gets deleted from my photos app. I want to delete from google app only.
There's no way to link the Photo app to Google Photos from the Photos app side. So you must be using some feature of Google Photos to do that. How did you set it up? Unlinking it is probably using the same settings.
@@macmost I did nothing. I have both on my iPad . In fact, I have disabled the backup feature on the google photos app. The problem is that when I delete a photo on google photos, it gets deleted on my photos app. I don’t want that.
@@azizmehdi101 Not sure what the problem could be then. Google Photos must still be connected in some way. I don't use Google Photos so I'm the wrong person to ask how to fix it.
Preview doesn't work for me. I can't open it. When I click with the right button I can see there are files there, but I can't ' reach ' them. I consequently didn't know that it had functions at all.
@@macmost On my iMac the files don't open. Does that mean there's nothing there ? No, it's a file, not a map. On my macbook air, however, files do open. What ends up in Preview by the way ? Sorry to have bothered you; I have to do some more Google research into this.
@@macmost Ofcourse I don't mean 'map' ( that's Dutch, I should have said 'folder' The files are there, but when I double click on them they don't open, but that's it. Nothing happens. @@Peterthegreat1234 Preview is an app. You don't "remove them from Preview." Not sure what you are trying to say there, sorry. Have you tried launching Preview, and then using File, Open to open those files? Not sure why they aren't opening for you.
Everything except straighten. Why does it start to dump multiple photos in a sidebar after about 15 open windows? Is this a VRAM thing? It's really annoying.
Not only a perpetually great presenter Gary but you have the gift of making each presentation not only understandable but retainable in memory.

Gary is the Chuck Norris of Macs
It would be nice if free rotations were possible so as to straighten horizons.
You can do that in the Photos app though. Even vertical and horizontal perspective straightening too. th-cam.com/video/kLyTP2BZPcs/w-d-xo.html
