2024 and your video is still the best. I was able to correct the errors I made in resizing a Citizen Series 8 GMT. It fell off my wrist in a restaurant. I was lucky not to have lost it. Doesn't matter that you screwed it up learning how to do it, everyone screws up a bit when trying to figure something out, at least you learned from your mistakes and showed the correct way to do it, many videos show the wrong way like putting the pin in first and then driving the collar in from the side.
I just got my very first mechanical watch. I took it to a watch repair shop to get it resized. Then I went to my friend's home and as I was showing to him, the pin slipped out. I was like WHAT. Much like you, I had no idea there was a collar involved. I picked up the pin and slid it back in. I sort of felt some friction, so I assumed the pin was friction fit by itself. Then it slipped out again when I got home. I googled my problem and eventually came around to your video. Thank goodness I had a loose collar with spare links I got from the shop when he removed them. I have no idea if maybe the shop forgot to put the collar, or the collar was there but I didn't see it fall out. In any case, I'm kind of glad it happened because I got to learn something about my watch I probably would never have learned about. Your video truly saved me.
Brilliant video. I worked out years ago how to do this only by trial and error, cause there never was a comprehensive video out there how to do it. I still kept looking if someone would make a video like this, and you've done it. Great stuff, I suspect you will get lots of thanks for this!
Great job of explaining how to size a pin and collar bracelet with the collar seated in the center link. I hadn’t seen this variation, and just spent 20 minutes trying to get the collar to fit in a hole that it was not designed for… 🤦♂️😂🙏

Like another viewer suggested, I used one of the pin pusher tools, slid the collar on it, then used it to guide it into the correct hole. Much easier, than trying to use tweezers.
Great video but … After watching your video I wrongly assumed that my SSC560 was a "pin & collar" type bracelet but come to find out, it isn't. It's just a "pin" bracelet. Nothing in the owner's manual gave me a clue so I was glad to find your video. I had to order the pin removal set - long story but it took 19 days to come from China no less! I followed your instructions up to the point of looking for the collar only to discover that there wasn't one. Thought I had lost it (like you warned against) but upon removing the second pin, no collar there either. So, upon reassembly, pushing on the pin against the plastic block as you suggested resulted in the pin just "popping" back into place. So I examined the other pin that I had removed and eureka, the pin has a wider end and a smaller end. So, I guess the collar is kinda built-in to the link. Anyway, looks like Seiko simplified the whole process on some models. Thanks again. I would have had to take it to a watch smith otherwise. I enjoyed doing it myself. Oh yea, upon reassembly, put the small end of the pin into the link first (from the opposite direction of removal - as you indicated).
Great advise Guy! cannot imagine seizing the bracelet while trying to keep it in frame. I purchased for Christmas a Seiko 5 SKN357, Beautiful blue dial with the 5 logo pattern, not so much for the bracelet and its links system: total nightmare rezising it and when did the bracelet would just pinch me grabbing my skin hair all the time. I purchased a Hirsch brown leather strap and besides solving my hair pinching problem, it takes your eyes to the whole dial making it outstand and look just amazing! Keep the great content coming!
Great video!! What I usually do is I guide the collar on to the small punch tool and then take the tool with the collar and just guide it into the hole. I used the tweezers at fist but I kept springing collars across the room. The punch tool works best for me.

Wow, you just saved my a$$. I just got the SARY057 Presage (It's fucking beautiful!). I lost the 3 micro-bushings after knocking out three links for resizing and AMAZINGLY found them on my carpet and on the sofa where I was working.. all three! I wasn't sure I wouldn't going insane for not being able to put this back together, after a few duh, no friction pin falling out moments ;) Then I found you....
Great vid!! I’ve also noticed that some of the bracelets have pins with a distinct head & a narrow rounded tip for the collar side. Driving in the wrong side of the pin will also damage the collar.
I watched many videos too and everybody goes wrong. You are the only one doing it the right way, thanks for that ! Now I'm sure I have done it the right way ! But why Seiko do that ? Screw pin are more practical and have the same efficiency, don't they ?

I wish I had found this video before I started taking apart my bracelet. I was watching other videos, apparently seiko makes a couple of different styles with pin and colour. The other style has the colour sitting in the outer portion, and I could not understand why the collar was not fitting. I know you said you bent the pin, but what I believe is that in this particular style you punch out and re-insert the pin in the same direction of the arrow. You should do this because that sets the colour correctly into its position. If you reverse that then you are essentially trying to push the collar into the other portion of the link, which is wrong.
Great video! As you said I used the smallest punch to take out the pin and collar from the link but I noticed that the collar was stuck even though I used the smallest punch. What should I do to take it out?

I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong, but the holes on either side of the central part of the link seem to be the same size. I can't get the collar to go back in. It's an SRPA21....are all Seiko collar/pin bracelets of the same design?
Seiko has another style pin and collar bracelet m where the collar goes on the outside of the link not in the center. Long Island Watch just did a video on that style. Look yo his video and see if that helps.

Hi Tim thanks for watching. I'm sorry I'm not sure I follow your question. The collar only fits in one place. Seiko does have another version where the color fits in a different place (the outer edge of the bracelet link) but in the case of this bracelet it only fits in the inner area of the link.
Ah, Right. My Seiko Monster arrived yesterday, and I need to take a link out, so was looking at videos on how to do it. It looks like I have the other version, where the collars are on the outer edge. Good video, at least I know what I have to do, need to buy a bit of kit off Amazon, Just Subscribed.
Yeah, it should work roughly the same but the collar is just on that outer link edge instead of on the inner link. Putting those back together could be a little bit more annoying because on my version the collar gets retained while you push the pin in by the link next to it. On yours you'll have to find a way to hold that collar in place while you drive the pin, but it shouldn't be a whole lot more difficult.
On my new Turtle Prospex, they now use two collars. The bore diameter in the smaller end of the link is smaller, while the bored diameter on the larger part of the link is larger. The pin then has two of the collars on each end. I found out yesterday that you have to push both collars in very firmly on each side of the links. This new system is a bit harder now than what is shown her. Ugh.
I'm not sure out of the box, but you can request extra links from Seiko and they will mail them out to you at no charge. I requested and was provided 3 extra links, because I just wanted to have some spare links on hand. That said out of the box I had to remove 1 link from the bracelet to get a good fit on my 7" wrist.
I'm dealing with what seems to be a totally different pin and collar bracelet from Deep blue (master 1000 with jubilee). It seems to be a straight pin through a collar placed in one of the center links (not the one in the center of the 5 links but on one side (number 2 or 4 not sure), It's murder to get the pins out and I'm not quite sure on how to get the links back connected. I doubt even a watchmaker would know. NO videos I can find for these weird bracelets either. There are some WatchUSeek posts though that are years old. So they are pin and collar but not THIS kind of pin and collar.
Don't use metal tweezers! Collars POP right out of them. Lost two collars as they flew across my desk. Only found one of them. Luckily, I was removing a link on each size of the clasp so I had room to lose one. Also, and this took me a LONG time to figure out..., but the collar drops into only one side of the "male" link. Watch 19:00 carefully. I was trying to put in from the outside of the "female" side.
4 minutes ago, I bought a replacement bracelet because I can't deal with removing the links. Last week, I removed the screw-in links on a Strapcode bracelet.. The whole job took 4 minutes.
Strapcode bracelets look pretty nice. I haven't tried one yet but I bet it's great. Out of curiosity what size screw driver fits the screws on those, in case I get one, so I can have the correct tool ready.

20:25 literally two minutes before this part of the video, i bended the pin.
Very useful as those pins and collars are confusing for the first time bracelet adjustment.

Where do you get different diameters push pins? The ones that come in the watch repair sets seem to be the same size.

It looks like I have the other version, where the collars are on the outer edge. Good video, at least I know what I have to do, need to buy a bit of kit off Amazon, Just Subscribed.
Yeah, it should work roughly the same but the collar is just on that outer link edge instead of on the inner link. Putting those back together could be a little bit more annoying because on my version the collar gets retained while you push the pin in by the link next to it. On yours you'll have to find a way to hold that collar in place while you drive the pin, but it shouldn't be a whole lot more difficult.

Just got the watch. Does the winding mechanism make noise when you move this wrist? Mine send a bit loud
The oscillating rotor on all my Seiko watches are audible. It's probably fine, but hard to say without hearing it.

On my new Turtle Prospex, they now use two collars. The bore diameter in the smaller end of the link is smaller, while the bored diameter on the larger part of the link is larger. The pin then has two of the collars on each end. I found out yesterday that you have to push both collars in very firmly on each side of the links. This new system is a bit harder now than what is shown her. Ugh.

I'm not sure out of the box, but you can request extra links from Seiko and they will mail them out to you at no charge. I requested and was provided 3 extra links, because I just wanted to have some spare links on hand. That said out of the box I had to remove 1 link from the bracelet to get a good fit on my 7" wrist.
I'm dealing with what seems to be a totally different pin and collar bracelet from Deep blue (master 1000 with jubilee). It seems to be a straight pin through a collar placed in one of the center links (not the one in the center of the 5 links but on one side (number 2 or 4 not sure), It's murder to get the pins out and I'm not quite sure on how to get the links back connected. I doubt even a watchmaker would know. NO videos I can find for these weird bracelets either. There are some WatchUSeek posts though that are years old. So they are pin and collar but not THIS kind of pin and collar.

Don't use metal tweezers! Collars POP right out of them. Lost two collars as they flew across my desk. Only found one of them. Luckily, I was removing a link on each size of the clasp so I had room to lose one.
Also, and this took me a LONG time to figure out..., but the collar drops into only one side of the "male" link. Watch 19:00 carefully. I was trying to put in from the outside of the "female" side.

4 minutes ago, I bought a replacement bracelet because I can't deal with removing the links. Last week, I removed the screw-in links on a Strapcode bracelet.. The whole job took 4 minutes.
Strapcode bracelets look pretty nice. I haven't tried one yet but I bet it's great. Out of curiosity what size screw driver fits the screws on those, in case I get one, so I can have the correct tool ready.
