I watched this movie frequently growing up and even today it’s amazing. Recently, I started reading “The Emperor’s Handbook” which is a collection of writings by Marcus Aurelius and it wasn’t till watching this reaction I realized he was shown in this movie. It’s a good great read but requires some deep thinking

@@blurkid33 I believe he never gave it a title, it was just his private writings he never intended others to see. Marcus Aurelius was one of the founders of the 'Stoic' school of philosophy, which accepted and embraced hardship.
@@damo9961 yeah, I’ve noticed that lately, especially the last half decade, maybe decade. There’s rarely any passion in movies anymore. I think covid just made it more obvious
Finally ! And they loved it, they even were emotionnal at the end (I still am every time I watch this masterpiece). It is nice they saw the Roman Empire in action and the Coliseum (you should now show them how it was built and the games that happened there, sometimes even naval battle reconstitutions). Historians have found many errors in the film but they have always recognized that the violence shown between people, the daily violence, the Coliseum violence, the slaves violence, the politics violence, these relationships of power and blood wre very accuratery shown.
Yeah this is a good example of not very historically accurate but getting the historical feel right. It's remained high on my list in spite of the inaccuracies not only because of stellar acting by Joaquin and Russel and Djimon, but it also has a fantastic depiction of Marcus Aurelius. Richard Harris was the perfect casting for him, showing his philosophical and reflective side.
Gladiators rarely killed eachother and was basically just WWE with a bit more blood and occasional death. Though captured enemies might be killed off in special gladiator games, especially those naval battle ones.
I just realized that the guy they killed (before the first battle, 1:30) must have been an interpreter, a local working with the Romans because he knew Latin. This is because of his long hair, which the Romans did not have (liability in combat).
Slaves wore their hair the way their masters demanded. Slaves were often the educated ones within the upper classes, which was a major reason for the complete failure of Rome as an empire; it's ruling classes grew incompetent, as is happening today, a problem that is always waiting when people get lazy. Also all lead piping in the Roman cities.
"In the shower of so many arrows, it will not be understood which arrow is coming from where" ... the man in the white should be a poet!! In every video i see with him in it, he always speaks so eloquently.
He touches on something that soldiers know: between the time of heroic swordsmen, to the time of accurate sniper rifles, no-one was killed deliberately on the battle field. Who died was usually random, and due to 'bad luck', which no experienced soldier believes.
You guys should try the Directors Cut of “Kingdom of Heaven”- would love to hear your perspectives on the religious differences in that, and it’s from the Director of Gladiator! Great reaction video as always ❤
The indian word raj is the same as rex in Latin. Indo-European is the bestest language family. the others just can't compete!!!! Thousands of years apart you can still see the similarity!!!!
Marcus Aurelius died in 180 ACE, Commodus was made co-Emperor in 177 when Marcus left on a military expedition and died of an unknown illness during the trip. Commodus didn't die in the arena, he was killed by Narcissus who was his personal trainer in 192 ACE, nobody knows why but Commodus likely tried seducing him and it wasn't taken very well. After Commodus died the Year of the Five Emperors started in 193 ACE, five men claimed the title of Roman emperor during Civil wars between Roman States that year, Pertinax, Didius Julianus, Pescennius Niger, Clodius Albinus, and Septimius Severus who lasted until 211 due to winning the The Battle of Placentia against the Germanic Boii tribes, essentially Proto-Vikings in 194, his son Marcus Aurelius Antoninus better known as Caracalla co-served as Emperor and his younger son Geta was made co-Augustus...for more you can do your own research, it's 1am and I need a joint.
The Year Of The Five Emperors ending with the Battle Of Placentia, that could be a great movie if they keep it historically accurate. An epic trilogy even.

Wish you had shown a picture of the Colosseum to show it is a real place in Rome. These deadly games were played for real. Many people and animals were killed in ancient times.
even most western people get some stuff wrong in this movie Rome had deposed it's last king around 500 BC, when it became the first republic. (the word republic itself being invented by them) when Augustus initiated the principate, around 19 BC, Rome was still a Republic. Augustus didn't became a King nor it was hereditary. he seized all the main office of the Republic, concentrating most power, but the Senate still had some power.
I love rewatching great movies with these reactions because the fresh eyes pick out and appreciate moments different moments and it was great to watch people enjoy the movie as much as I did when I first watched it. Great video 👍🏾
32:21 Comodus wasn’t having relations with his sister, he WANTED to but she never gave in. Always trying to give him technically what he wanted in a none sexual way (for example asking for a kiss (we all know he wanted it on the lips) and instead of what was expected, kissed his forehead). But yea they never bumped uglies.
They said that there was a relationship between the two brothers but that is not true, it was just Comoudus trying to tell his sister. I guess they invented that plot line to emphasize the cowardly and despicable character of this antagonist. And how he was able to manipulate and influence, even against their will, the people around him.
Next to 'Braveheart' and 'Elizabeth'- one of the MOST inaccurate historical dramas of all time! It makes it seem like Commodus only ruled for 1-2 years- he ruled for 12 and he fought with his father in many wars and was co emperor with him the last 3-4 years of his father's reign, then had 12 of his own.

Fantastic movie and great reactions from the two! So surprising they don't recognize the Colosseum, one of the most famous buildings in the ancient and Western world.
The directors cut shows a scene, where some people get feed to the lions. That would've made an impact. I'm still often impressed, how much they get, sometimes in advance, but the best thing was for them don't wanted Maximus to kill the Gaul. Gotta love these guys!
Why should they? One thing they are young and the other it is European history. Me as an European do know very little about Indian/Asian history and culture. If you know more about their culture history good for you.
@@morcjul My guess is that Public education is a relatively new concept, plus Western public education over-emphasized non-Western achievements thanks to Howard Zinn & other USSR agents' input into the education system.
I don't know if the movie is contains any inappropriate materials for them.... but I think they would really enjoy the movie "Alpha" about mankind's first interactions with 'hunting with wolves' during the last Ice Age.
Marcus Aurelius was probably the best Roman emperor. He was extremely insightful, always worried that power would go to his head. He wrote a book for himself called “Meditations”. It was about stoic philosophy and how to live life justly. He wrote the book for himself, never intending that it would still be in print and read by people 2,000 years later. It is also said he had a servant who’s only job was to follow him around and whisper in his ear “You are just a man” to remind him not to go crazy with power as emperor.
Now that they liked this, would be nice to have Excalibur, its the King Arthur story with some fantasy. Or King Arthur from 2004, they did again but without fantasy elements. Or maybe 300, they will go crazy on the action.
If you guys liked this movie you should check out one called 'The Eagle' with Channing Tatum, Jamie Bell, Donald Sutherland, Tahar Rahim and Mark Strong. It was made in 2011 :)

This was one of the best yet. This movie explains democracy through story form with unbelievable tragedy and it is a wonder to see these men’s reactions. Please let them know how appreciative we are.
Them 2 guys are the best combo to do these movie reacts. They know how to analyze whats happening while still enjoying the movie and not talking the ENTiRE time like Babu and the tall guy
I'll always watch this movie and reaction thereof ,,, it speaks to all people...
I'm so glad they reacted to this film! I was waiting for it.
Please, show Raeen a video of the actual Colosseum and of Rome!
A brilliant movie! Belongs in the annals of history filmmaking.
Not really. Its a great movie and all but the edits every 2 seconds throughout the entire movie drive me insane. Most people dont notice it, but when u do you realize how annoying it is
@@user-wr9ej6xe4j Your opinion is kind of irrelevant when it won 5 oscars and sit comfortable with a 8.5 rating on IMDB. It IS a great movie and sits up there at the top of one of the greatest movies ever made, atleast in its genre.
Hi would you please pass along to those two gentlemen that the round building they liked at the end actually exist and it's still here today and they can visit it in real life and see it for themselves it wasn't fantasy it was history it actually happened thank you
I like this combination of cast/ Common Men❤❤
Sending love to you and your families from Orlando, Florida, USA, Heather and Rick
And from Seminole County
I recommend they watch the original X MEN movies.
One or two, maybe. Best not to rip the backside out of everything.
I love all these guys like they were family. Stay safe and protected for years to come.
Troy is Must aswell
Please show them a documentary on the colosseum. Or if you have a VR walkabout of the colosseum. Or anything at all. They seemed quite fascinated with it (as would anyone be).
Nice, was hoping we’d get this one soon 🎉
Fantastic movie and great reactions from the two! So surprising they don't recognize the Colosseum, one of the most famous buildings in the ancient and Western world.
It's because they were never been exposed to the outside world... rather than just india..but they have come a long way ..n learning every day
The directors cut shows a scene, where some people get feed to the lions.
@@gabrieleghut1344 I'm not judging them, I'm just genuinely surprised! Taj Mahal is equally famous and well-known in the Western world for example.
@@morcjul My guess is that Public education is a relatively new concept, plus Western public education over-emphasized non-Western achievements thanks to Howard Zinn & other USSR agents' input into the education system.
Here's a suggestion: The Conjuring. Also: Fight Club.
Believe it or not i was just thinking a week ago that they should realy get around Gladiator. :D
Good job. ;D
I don't know if the movie is contains any inappropriate materials for them.... but I think they would really enjoy the movie "Alpha" about mankind's first interactions with 'hunting with wolves' during the last Ice Age.
the one who manages the whole army is also the king.
actually no. this was just a legion, and its commander. lol. Rome had many armies and no king.
Politics was the one battlefield on which Maximus would never win...
Can we introduce them to M. Night Shyamalan - The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, The Happening.
You forgot The Big Three of Shyamalan :
Unbreakable
Split
Glass
How about a Michael Mann movie next? 'Last of the Mohicans' would be an interesting choice! Or a Peter Weir film, like 'Master and Commander'
Last of the Mohicans another MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@jeannichols2459 Absolutely! 😀 And very influential, especially in terms of cinematography.
Nice, every episode with these two is amazing! Hope to see Raju on a plane at some point too 😊
Now that they liked this, would be nice to have Excalibur, its the King Arthur story with some fantasy.
I wonder what these two would think of westerns, like "the quick and the dead" or "unforgiven" or "3:10 to yuma" (with russel crowe), or "young guns".. :-)
These gentlemen should be TRUE film critics! Their thoughts come straight from the heart.
Awesome reaction 😂😂 thanks guys 👍👍
Great reactions as usual guys…glad you liked the movie as much as I did…🖖🏻🇨🇦
One of the best movies ever made, Ive probably seen it over 10 times and it never gets old
Great to see someone being totally drawn into a film.
SIR PLEASE SIR THE MOVIE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS WITH MY BABU WATCHIN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got to suggest "Troy"
I was so excited to have Gladiator reviewed. It’s a great film, and I’m glad they enjoyed it.
I would like to request The Hunger Games movies for review by our team.
"They cutting body parts like onions, those swords must be sharp"
Hahahah
You have to show them more roman film and should give more explanation to them about that
Y'all should do Pirates of the Caribbean sometime!
Next: TROY (2004) with Brad Pitt. Based on historical events. The history that inspired Alexander the Great to become the greatest Greek military leader in the world. They'll love it even more !!
This is one of my favorite movies to watch! I'm excited to watch you all reaction.
Exciting watching the films with these guys you can tell that they enjoyed it so much ❤
I really enjoy your show and seeing your cultural reactions to some of the biggest movies. It would be awesome if you can watch these movies on a screen the size of a theater.
Rob Roy is a great movie from 95, with a nice sword duel in the final and a great villain.^^
