  • Kinefinity unveiled its new Universal Electronic Viewfinder at NAB 2024. There has been very few decent and affordable (of course this is subjective) third party EVFs on the market. There have been options in the past from companies such as PortKeys, and Zacuto, but not many others. I think that we haven't seen many options come top market because a lot of younger shooters don't use EVFs.

Does it have tools? Focus peaking, focus sharpening, 3D LUT, waveform, audio meters, etc?

Brilliant. Cheaper and a universal port will make it an excellent solution for even blackmagics cameras! Generally avoid proprietary connections, even if it’s USB-C as no other cameras use USB-C as a display connection (looking at you blackmagic )

Now the Canon C400 also uses usb C for its EVF haha.

@@timelapsega yeah I know, but nothing beats the compactness if it is built in, adding more stuff just means a more complex setup

    No HDMI option?

Missed opportunity that there's no USB-C DisplayPort input + power option, to give healthy competition to Blackmagic's $1.7k EVF.

because blackmagic innovated there. Look how no other camera manufacturer had usb-c ssd recording support before blackmagic did it.

@@overnightclassic2 Not correct. And in general, USB-C with DisplayPort tech is a baseline standard now in mobile computing/production.

@@focuspulling which cameras have usb-c displayport output? if any?
Blackmagic was the first camera to have usb-c ssd recording at least enabled with firmware. Everyone else has it now.
Sure it is a simple thing but blackmagic were the first to implement this idea.

USB-C would be neat to have on future models, but as another commenter said, the only camera I can think of that is using a USB-C for both power and display are the new Blackmagic Design cams. No other camera is gonna have that for quite a few years. Besides, I doubt any Operator would even want it, most in the Doc/On-location market or ACs complain about certain products like the DJI Focus having USB-C because it's hardly a safe connector for the rigorous productions. That's why LEMO ports are favored by Assistants or Operators, they'd rather use SDI for monitoring out anyhow.
