      No. No one else can. Not the way he does. Most people will master one or two cheat moves. Most magicians master the second deal, usually just so they can demonstrate it. He has mastered all cheat moves. He has gotten to a point where he literally can't do it wrong anymore. There absolutely will never be another Richard Turner. Not even close.

    Richard Turner so much reminds me of the great mid-20th century jazz pianist Art Tatum. Like Turner, Tatum lost most of his sight in childhood to the point where he was legally blind and had to be educated at a school for the blind. Also like Turner, Tatum never considered his impairment a handicap and refused to succumb to it. He grew up playing sports, including basketball and marbles, with his childhood buddies despite his disability, and had an encyclopedic memory particularly for baseball statistics. He never used a cane or a seeing eye-dog, though he was always accompanied by a friend or assistant, and even insisted on learning to drive a car. But in spite of his handicap what he could do with his hands once he laid them on a keyboard was so astonishing that jazz and classical musicians alike were in awe of him. Similarly, what Turner can do with his hands when he touches a deck of cards is equally astonishing to magicians and card sharks around the world as Tatum was with a piano. Both were consumed 24/7/365 with perfecting their respective crafts...always striving for even greater heights of attainment. Both men learned to "see" and communicate thru their hands and minds to depths of perfection perhaps unattainable for "normal" human beings. Tatum was a musician's musician like Turner is a magician's magician. Both men are of the rare human ability in their fields that comes along maybe once a century or two. To me, the resemblance of their biographies is as astonishing as each man is at his craft.

    • @Jabootylolz
      @Jabootylolz 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Having vision would honestly cripple you in learning the deck the way he has. He learned the exact feeling of every single card because he was not physically able to see it. What took him 25 years without sight would be 50 years with sight because people with vision have the actual handicap of actually being able to see and let your eyes lie to you. It's honestly not a difficult concept to understand, when you lose one of your major senses it gets compensated with survival instincts. He literally mentioned it in the video.

    The middle deal just blows my mind. I've seen lots of of Richard but this is beyond insane.

    • @Hotobu
      @Hotobu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The manipulation of the deck is impressive for sure, but beyond that when you understand the mechanics of the trick it loses its luster a bit. He puts 4 aces in the middle of the deck. Since it's draw poker he's still got a high chance of drawing to whichever of his cards aren't aces, giving him up to 10 chances to get the 4 aces in the middle of the deck. The assistant would have to be purposefully sabotaging him or just outright incompetent to not be able to get him at least 3 aces. If he wants to make absolute sure he'll have a winning hand he can just put junk at the top of the deck ensuring he'll win with 3 of a kind.
      Once you except that he's an alien that can manipulate a deck into whatever order he wants it's easy to see how the trick works the way it does.

    • @Frank01985
      @Frank01985 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@Hotobu I'm quite sure that this one is sleight of hand. Don't forget that he asks her to shuffle the deck, not specifying what kind of shuffle, so keep the aces in the middle can easily go wrong with the wrong person. At 49:00 the aces go in the middle of the deck, but he immediately manipulates them out and at 49:08 slides them in his right hand to the side of the table, and he holds them there. The hand doesn't move until 50:25, when he almost has his cards and puts the aces on top of the dealt cards at 50:30. At 51:23 he gets rid of the other cards with the "clean up your mess" act, there are more than 7 cards on the table (this is also the reason the third player was dealt, so it's less noticeable).
      But it's so beautifully executed, nothing about it looks unnatural until you watch it another 2 times, knowing what to look for.

      Crazier thing is picking up any sleight right now is simply because he doesn’t have to stick em for general crowds but when in a situation with even the best players, card mechanics , ect nobody can pick up his mechanics . The guy was fooled into being the best by the best before him. Dai mentored him and purposely mentored him in ways that dai thought was impossible but passed it off as if it was just to see if he would do it . Later in life his mentor let that secret slip and this turner will never be matched . Be like convincing a kid a human can fly and thru that belief and obsessive practice kid figures out how to fly this becoming the only one .

    The documentary about him called 'Dealt' is amazing - the creator of the doc got more than they thought - Richard during that period went from someone who always denied being blind (for fear of pity)and hid it to creating this show about going blind. He looks so free and relaxed and people are embracing his 'journey' with no pity...and how could there be pity - loving family, strong willed man and a job that gives joy to people.

    I love the trick at an hour in, paying close attention you can see he throws down or moves around the top card when doing the "Keep your eye on the 2s". I appreciate that I caught every time he did the switch and was very clean with it, even the fold on the card! You can see he fixes the fold and places it on another then throws out the card on the top all with one hand! Very sneaky

When you've been told by the professor that you were the best card mechanic he's ever known, that's quite an honor coming from an expert cardsman like Dai Vernon himself. I tip my hat to you Richard for the excellent demonstrations and performances over the years.
