  • We flew to Spain to answer this question: American Football vs. European "Soccer" - which is better?! We found out by going to the biggest rivalry game on both continents: Real Madrid vs. Barcelona ⚽️ & Tennessee Vols vs. Florida Gators 🏈 The two experiences were WAY different than we expected! Which sport do you prefer?! Special thanks to Rocket Learn for sponsoring this episode! Check out the latest episode of Home Lore here: • Visit This Tiny Home O...
We grew up watching American Football and have always wanted to go to a "soccer" game (calling it soccer to prevent confusion ;)).
The Tennessee Vols and Florida Gators have been rival teams for awhile now, and Tennessee is actually good this year, so we thought that'd be a great game to go watch in real life.
Then we learned that Real Madrid and Barcelona were going to be playing each other (AKA El Clasico!) WHILE we were in Spain!
We had the best time sharing game day at our alma mater, AND getting to experience our very first "soccer" game with our new friend Yoanna!
At the end of the day, even though these 2 sports are very different from each other, our favorite part was seeing people (and complete strangers) from all over the world at both events bonding, putting their differences aside, and having a great time together :)
Did any of our comparisons surprise you? Comment below annd let us know which experience youd prefer :)

    Who are Kara and Nate?!
Watch our documentary here: • 100th COUNTRY DOCUMENTARY
Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married 2013 and were super “normal.” I was a teacher and Nate started a small printing business from the spare bedroom of our apartment. We discovered the world of “travel hacking” & became obsessed. So after 2 years of obsessively saving $35k and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016 for a “one year” trip around the world. Our goal was to see as many places as possible before we ran out of money and went home to “normal life.” We started this travel vlog to share our experiences with friends and family, but quickly fell in love with this lifestyle and did everything we could to keep going. 4 years later, we achieved our new goal of visiting 100 countries and all 7 continents. We had no plans to slow down, until 2020 forced us to ;) Which is when we bought a converted van to start exploring our own country for the first time. Van life was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. 😊🎥🌎

American Football is played for like 1 minute, then a pause for 3 minutes, and the cycle continues for an eternity.
Football is played 45 minutes plus extra time, then a pause then 45 minutes + extra time.
That's why American Football is taking so long. Cause 90% of the time it's a pause and 10% is the actual game.

I must add that El Clasico, despite the excellent level of the match itself, recently became a little “Sanitized” an “ Touristy”, so the atmosphere will be a little milder when compared to other fan bases, SPECIALLY if we’re talking Eastern Europe, North Africa and Latin America.
I can say by myself, as a Flamengo(Brazil) fan, for the whole 90 minutes, we basically have 2 rules:
    1 - Nobody sits
    2 - Everyone sings
We aren’t there to watch the game, we are part of it. We deeply believe, sometimes to a fanatical extent, that the result of the match depends on us. Next time you watch a football match, look for one of these places, or even a few different options in Western Europe, like Atletico Madrid(Spain), O. Marseille(France), Napoli( Italy), Borussia Dortmund(Germany) to name a few…

European football has a really major social connection which can run so much deeper than just innocently supporting your local team. I was really surprised to see that in both games you were sitting next to a supporter of the opposing team. In the UK and in my city of Glasgow the fans are physically separated on different stands to avoid conflict. Football here is about politics, religion and identity more than anything else which definitely adds to the cultural and historic impact but can also lead to some pretty nasty stuff. I wouldn’t recommend you go to a Celtic v Rangers (old firm) game before knowing exactly what you’re letting yourself in for.

Yes! Ive been in marching band since I was in 8th grade and I now am in my freshman year at West Chester University in Pennsylvania. Being in a nationally ranked marching band and biggest one on the eat coast (450~ members) I just cannot fathom why marching band don't get any recognition from the mass media. I get its time for the half-time review but some audiences only watch the games for the marching bands so why not increase viewership

The people behind the goal you were talking about are usually called "ultras" or "hooligans" they are a part of a group which is usually the craziest fans or the most passionate fans of the team. also the reason your friend didn't celebrate even tho she is a Barca fan is because she would either get beat up or kicked out of the stadium.

    • @maxvandoorn3799
      @maxvandoorn3799 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

That´s not completely true what you said. Ultras and Hooligans are two different thinks. Ultras are the most hardcore fans of a club. The Hools are violent fans, which even arrange place and time between the rivaling teams for fights. Most of the time the Ultras will be the ones, which are making the atmosphere in a stadium.

But when a team in soccer/football in Europe wins their domestic league and especially the champions league, most countries (even the ones in the farthest corners) in Africa, south america, Asia, Australia will know about it because they have huge fan bases in all continents. As a Brit who’s been to a variety of american sports as well as ‘soccer’ and rugby, I’d say the major difference is the entertainment. In my opinion american sport is much more focussed on the spectacle, the tailgating, the commercial side of things too. Whereas in the UK and Europe in general, it’s much much more sport focussed.

I’m thrilled that Kara and Nate got into the futball game. The world plays futball and this game is the most exciting. I had the pleasure of attending in Barcelona in the 90s with my cousins who live there. It was the most dramatic, exciting, and loud sporting event I’ve ever seen. The crowds before and especially after the game were incredibly huge. I loved it! Kara and Nate, I’m so glad you did this.

You guys should definately go to a championsleague match (Maybe even the final) These games have such a good atmosphere. Also there are some other countries were the atmosphere is way different and maybe better which are also so good to watch (for example the glasgow derby, vienna derby, liverpool vs manchester city and many others)

Madrid v Barcelona is not the biggest derby in Football. It's a game full of tourists.
You want to go to Liverpool v Manchester United, or Newcastle United v Sunderland (UK), PANATHINAIKOS v olympiacos (Greece). Boca Juniors v River Plate (Argentina). They are the proper big Derbys. Milan or Rome derby, but they can be dangerous to attend.

The recent NFL game in Wembley London shows that American Football is very popular here too. My husband has supported the Denver Broncos for the last 35 years, our son has grown up with the same love for the game. They have both been lucky enough to go to watch Denver at the mile high stadium and went this year to watch them play at Wembley . I think they would both rather watch American Football than European.
