All these stories are super inspiring! At the end of the day you notice a common theme, human interaction and networking is ESSENTIAL to success! Go out and get your face seen everyone! I know I will be doing more of that :D
I've collabed with alot of major players (Metro, Wheezy, Sizzle, Zaytoven, CNote, Juicy J, etc...) and none of us ever discuss percentage splits. Everything is ALWAYS down the middle 50/50.--Doesn't matter if I put 1 sound in it or gave some1 a loop & did majority. Deej Nonsense if you change the pitch of a sample all it means is that you changed the pitch.... you aren’t getting out of sharing royalties. You can put 54 gross beats on it, reverse it and lower the pitch.... you still used a sample/loop and need to share the royalties
Yall's podcast is an eye opener. Of course I knew a lot of this shit from studying this craft, but this podcast helps with the deep down details that I wasn't aware of. Thank you very much fr
I think we live in a interesting time were the laws of music and copyright are blurrier than ever because of technology, and its up to the beatmakers/producers to set up their own rules and regulations when it comes to using their beats and or loops/samples.
50/50 with the point of view of selling loop packs. If someone pays $20 for a loop pack and it's NOT royalty free, 9/10 times there probably won't be a placement and if anything the user of the loops could make a beat and flip it for WAY more money by selling it on beatstars/directly to ppl/etc. So IMO $20 isn't a lot to cough up - whereas a free sample pack that's royalty bearing has a WAY smaller chance of generating ANY revenue for the creator of the sample. Regardless creators of any composition (if published online) are entitled to a share of the copyright in some capacity
Deleted all social media cause it’s a distraction and all I did was compare myself to others. It’s crazy the wonders it did. I am able to be more productive Fr fr and actually drop beats on my beats channel
Sampling is apart of being a producer. If a artist sent u a loop that he wants you to make a beat out of u gotta know how to flip it. Imo samples are well used not over rated they help producers anyway.

I get what he’s saying that you should just send loop packs to the people you expect to get placements.... but not everyone can get in contact with big producers, if everyone could just send loops to wheezy all day I’m sure they would. If you make it clear that you should come back to the loop creator to discuss royalties, there’s nothing wrong with that. Loop packs should be looked at as paying for a collab... pay for the collab, split the royalties... that’s fine
I thought I was the only one who thought it was a bit odd that people were charging for loop packs and say its free for everything else except when someone pops off. That’s why I work with producers closely if I need to use loops. Alot of producers just copy and paste information regarding loops and the terms and don’t even know what they’re telling people.
I’m on splice but most for drum loops, presets and effects. I listen to some sample packs but in my mind everyone else does too so it’s a no go cause I don’t want to sound like everyone else. If it’s featured, I won’t even give it a shot. The rare times I do fuk with samples, it’s unfeatured basic loops I can remake by ear with deviations and sounds I like , effects or some weird stuff not in the genre. I like humming out my own melodies and turning them into midi, bouncing to audio file, then running that through serato and I got my own shit and no percentage drama.
My opinion is Technically if a loop is labeled 'Royalty Free" & paid for upfront, that could be considered a "Work for Hire". So it could be argued as a final sale with no backend money on a placement. But if the loop is labeled on the site as "All or Some Rights Reserved" That's not really "Free" to use.
