  • today, we take a look at a unique hifi component, made by Technics. I bought it at a thrift store called Eco Town in Honolulu, Hawaii. They have lots of cheap hifi and is a great place to find good deals on some nice hifi equipment.
    thanks for watching!

try to find some SB-F3 speakers from technics and you´ll be amazed by the sound it releases,it´s a early 80´s (if memory doesn´t fail me) the 79 model ,the others are not the same but the 80´s SB-F2 as doble impedance , you can conect them as a 4 Ohms speakers or 8 Ohms speakers ,it handles 90 watts but only releases 60 watts of sound which is loud and very clean(as an example i have a pioneer receiver with only 17 watts per channel but when conecting some CS-997 with 190 watts it makes the woofer (30 cm´s one) vibrate as hell with loudness on so it can sound more close to the band playing not a steril version of the sound recorded with a 90´s reference amplifier sound also it delivers a nice bass sound but no matter what you do having 70 watts per channel it will never make the woofer vibrate , but with the changes from the 70´s to the 80´s ,if conected to a amp till 79 it´s a set of perfect speakers(the SB-F3) if after 1980 it gives good sound but not as good as if conected to a 70´s amplifier . in 1980 all brands changed the quality of their equipment for the worse ,maybe to make them afordable to more people , basically it´s a surround first system controler with 4 speakers conected but one can use it as a booster for higher low and high frequency´s, so if you conect it to a 79 receiver or integrated amplifier you´ll notice a big diference in sound ,use the tone controls and loudness to meet what you think it is a good sound, the use of flat sound will take a lot of quality of sound from any amp., it´s true a good sound is considered perfect if not using any control of frequencies but those amplifiers and speakers cost a lot of money ,if using a simple integrated amplifier to meet the original sound in the recording one has to use the loudness if hearing to a low volume of sound ,normally till the midle of the volume knob scale ,it brings up both ends of the spectrum of frequencies that normally are only heard when the volume is high

    New subscriber, great video.
I've got one of these that I use in my home studio for the dimension sound effect (I've got a few old hi-fi spatial things - keep your eye out for a Hughes AK-100). Sending a synthesizer to it from a mixer and back sounds rad. The eq is pretty good too.

it was probably used to give you a surround sound effect. and i see that it has a few mic inputs. some cassette decks do not have mic inputs so that would have been useful for recording voice or maybe even could be used by a DJ. to mix recordings or mix between songs.
I don't think surround sound was a big thing back when this was made. but they did have 4 channel receivers in the late 70's it was called quadraphonic or quad sound. but there was not many recordings & didn't last that long from what i have heard.

you said it correctelly but more a sound efect controler for the music. For dj´s is not needed ,and yes old cassette decks have mic inputs but since late 80´s people cease to record cassettes to send to a family menber in other country working or a soldier in a war to hear the family voices, the quadrophony is no more than a surround system but never was used because everything needed to be adjusted to 4 channels ,the cartridge on the record player ,all the records had to be recorded to 4 channels ,so it was expensive and never worked ,there is the matrix 4 that using two sets of speakers becomes the same as using the first surround amoplifiers in the 80´s , and quadrofonic sound was introduced in early 70´s not late 70´s, in late 70´s was introduced the DBX which there was only 4 or 5 records recorded in DBX and it sounded perfect but it was very expensive and never worked this the system for home use ,still are components from DBX ,i have a studio equalizer that i don´t know how many frequency´s of sound it controls but around 50 or more each output (left or right)also a noise reduction system in my opinion much better than dolby ,started on other noise reduction system already in use but improved by DBX
