As someone who is 7 months into a Tattoo Apprenticeship myself, this gives me hope. Have done 1 Tattoo which was sprung on me out of the blue when I had family and friends visiting the shop. My heart was pounding and I was so nervous. I can’t wait to see how much I can improve over the years.
Id love to see them react to other tattoo artists factuning/photo-shopping their tattoos for social media. It happens so much its scary and I had no idea until one of my coworkers showed me!

Some of the tattoos that Instagram page criticizes are from artists that post videos of their finished tattoos as well...I don't see how the videos could be photo shopped
I did my thigh, no ink. My dad is making me practice on him before I give myself a tattoo. It's going pretty good. I picked a drawing I did as a little kid. No straight lines, short lines and shitty looking. Its exactly like the drawing so far... shitty looking. He loves it.
The hatred of handpoke methods is mind boggling. I like when people appreciate both ancient and modern forms of the traditional practice. Tattoos are diverse, no need to hate! 💜
I've been teaching myself how to tattoo for 5 months now and the first tattoo I did was Haku from spirited away in his dragon form on pig skin. I bought a tattoo machine from a tattooer in my city. He was like "Yeah dude, do some sick tats! That machine is yours for 30 Euros!" I'm lucky my parents are chill ^^

Hell yeah, I did the whole guitar string/Walkman motor thing. Most of those are covered now but I still have a giant “Chicago” on my leg that I did myself, lol
The first time I tattooed tattooed, on my own in my apprenticeship. I did a Jacksonville jaguar, and colored the tongue red instead of blue green color. I also blasted them with iron oxide ink, so the tattoo must look terrible by now. But that was when I was working 10 to last customer so 2 to 4am ^o.+^
Man I want to be a tattoo artist so badly and after watching this, it makes me slightly tempted to become a scratcher for a start up- but I know how dangerous and unsanitary that is :( why are apprenticeships so difficult to get?
Scratchers aren't unsanitary. They use the same equipment that tattoo artists use. Because they don't have fancy chairs and a studio doesn't mean it's unsanitary
Foivos Louki it kinda does, if the stuff you sit on or work on is porous, it can’t really be properly cleaned Plus i don’t see a lot of home tattooers use barrier film and protection on their machines and there are a lot of nooks and crannies potentially hazardous materials can get in. I’m not saying it’s not possible to be sanitary in home environment, it’s just harder to. Edit: just a side note, I’m not gatekeeping or anything, I just think apprenticeship is always a better option and that all home scratchers still need proper environment to tattoo in (not on an old couch) and know all the safety stuff, take the blood pathogens course and such.
It won’t be difficult to get if you find the right shop! Just continue to build your artistic portfolio and bring it into a studio. Regardless of the comments “scratching” IS dangerous and unsanitary, you meet the right person they’ll want to teach you! Each studio is different of course
Honestly, it depends on what shops you go to. I really vibed with this tattoo artist and he straight up was like, "Want to be my apprentice?" Keep working on your art portfolio and go check out the shops. The right shop for you will take you.

Not the art most people art talking about here but the video the editing for this video was on point and is a stylistic improvement to the overall entertainment factor over older videos. Ya done good, kid.
my friend bought a tattoo machine off ebay and was practicing on pig skin, some while later worked up the courage to tattoo a person, me. he's now a pretty decent tattoo artist and my little simple cartoon skull and cross bones look cute as hell.
I bought a machine 2 years ago, I would practice on fake skin / go to the store and get pig skin. I didn’t want to tattoo anyone until I was good at the pig skin so I had some what an idea of it but then a tattoo artist came into my job and asked if I wanted a tattoo I said no but I told him I’ve been wanting to learn and that if I can ask him some questions. He told me you know what I’ll let you do a tattoo on me I was so happy ! Met up like 2 days later. We got matching tattoos only so I can see what he was doing then I did his and I fell in love as soon as I started.
I see a lot of people don't get better and I don't know why, for real, I know some people that have been tattooing for a long time and they still suck...
I love getting to know my tattoo heroes tell their stories. Best way to spend a few moments with them! Cheers
