Oh man his reaction to that line, ESPECIALLY if you know all his shit from full playthroughs and romancing him n shit, ahhhhhhhh so good. For those who never found it/clicked it/don't want to watch the sweet boy suffer: he has a literally physical response to you saying that, he immediately hunches like you punched him and goes on the attack. "Do you know what separates us from animals? CHOICE. I CHOOSE to follow you, a DOG would do it, out of instinct, to fulfill a need. Disrespect me again and I won't CHOOSE to kill you, I'll do it on instinct, to fulfill my need to hear you scream." Which, yeah, for context if you've never romanced him, you can find out or infer that Cazador was a creep, Astarion was forced to use his sexuality to appease Cazador and for survival in other ways, and Astarion has a pretty messed up relationship with his sexuality, to the point that if you defend his right to say no to someone who lusts after him in Act 2, it triggers something of an epiphany in him as to how much that right to say no actually means to him. He'll go on to try and establish a boundary with you (no sex for a while) and if you pressure him for sex after he tells you that, he'll do it and then break up with you immediately afterwards because he's realizing he's worth more than that. You also learn that he uses humour and flirting to deflect and cope. So yeah he had a nightmare about his old master offering him power, tried to hide it, and then you respond by teasing him about being raped as a slave. Whoops.
Yeah... Enticing Cazador dream, right... In which he holds him by the chin, and probably worse. Astarion you need a fucking hug and I want to carve your master's back myself, just to make him understand, just for his screams
Does reading his thoughts affect the relationship in a negative way? I imagine people don’t like their thoughts being invaded and would like to open up gradually. So I would think that characters could get upset after finding out you’re reading their mind.
Astarion doesn't disapprove when you do it. It actually brings up the topic of Cazador sooner. The other companions tend to not react well unless they offer to connect with you. I think he was tolerant of it due to the circumstances. Caught trying to bite you, uncertain of your reaction and his fate, and trying to quickly re-mend the just established partnership. Too wrong footed enough to make him surprisingly vulnerable and open - plus, the tadpole mind connecting powers are still new, so everyone is adapting to sudden unplanned information sharing. Who's to say you did it on purpose?
Obviously this didn't make it to the full game and isn't canon, but this makes a surprising amount of sense. The dream visitor wants to manipulate you by any means necessary. And Astarion is motivated by nothing if not fear. I think it still even would have worked when he becomes one of the only advocate for using the tadpoles. Even if Astarion himself can't see it, every time he tries to gain power over others, he becomes a bit more like Cazador.
I don't know if this is the table OP used, as I haven't used Cheat engine for BG3 myself, but it might. Cheat Engine is a specific program, download and some Googling should get you your answer. fearlessrevolution.com/viewtopic.php?t=13996

The facial expressions. holy shit.
The way she reacted to him trying to command her was hilarious.
She’s like “Bitch please.”
That's Cazador's eyes in Astarion's mind, lol. Commanding him to feed - forcing him to drink rats.
and the way you can cruelly respond with that "master in the bedroom" line and he totally flips out

At 1:30 when he says he dreamt about cazador is so damn heart wrenching. A+ voice acting by Neil newbon!

Astarion is fab of course, but we all know that.
She looks so...enticing!

Astarion needs so much therapy.
he needs punch in the end of every conversation with him

Did you do this with the necklace? My lock has the spell nd even when I cast and sleep it doesn't work.
The amulet didn't work either, I had to enable the ability via cheat engine

“Detect Thoughts”
Don’t do it. You’ll find that they’re thinking of some WEIRD stuff in that dome of theirs.
Should you just know the spell or should it be among the prepared spells to have this?
For the second convo, you should cast it before talking to him. The first one is tricky, had to use cheats

You have to cast it before the conversation starts. Just having it prepared is not nough.
