Very cool. This is a difficult song to sing live technically-- with all those fast, high-pitched, bird-like little flourishes in the melodic line-- and she sounds awesome. She's the real thing.
EVERYTHING WAS LIVE in those days...even studio recordings didnt have the level of processing they do today...musicians and singers survived and thrived because of PURE RAW TALENT ....none of this manufactured auto tune SHIT!!!!
Well done lad! This is REAL music. There are very few of this generation that can do anything even close to these two ladies. The only one with any credibility, that comes to mind is P!nk. That girl can sing, she writes most of her own stuff, and she can wail on some Janice Joplin tunes so she's alright in my book. Been loving the Wilson sisters for 40 years!
The concert footage above is from 1978 September 1, 1978 Portland (OR) Speedway, to be more precise. I was there, photographing the show, that day. Damn video/filming cameras (sides and center) kept getting in the frame. Didn't make me a happy camper. Nice to have it for history's sake, though.
Ann Wilson the BEST female rock'n roll vocalist of all time and Nancy Wilson awesome female guitarist of all time .. HEART is simply the BEST !!! Thanks for sharing !
One of my favorite classic rock bands!!! My sister and I idolized these two gifted musicians. I miss my sister...she passed away six years ago. This band always reminds me of her.😞 RIP Robin.
Makes me proud to be a Seattle Native. Ann and Nancy know how to rock! And they're pretty too! And they never sold out and moved to hideous figuratively and literally LA.
There was a big break up controversy amongst them. Inner turmoil. Had huge effect on all members. And sometimes when those things happen, names get lost in time. Ex-members never find their way back to the mainstream. So many great musicians have fallen through the cracks because of break ups. Time keeps marching on. The next big thing comes along and just like that... you're forgotten. Kinda a harsh reality.
@@mattjean2652 truth....notice how Fleetwood Mac kept going back to Lindsey Buckingham though. I guess they are done for good now that Christine is gone. Bob Welch was good too. I don't know any details about why Bob left FMac. hmmm...
They are Hall of Famers in my mind. They were the first successful female band, where one sister is the lead singer and the other rocks it with a guitar. Greatness seen in this video!!!
Was fortunate enough to see them and Walter Egon (Magnet and Steel) in concert in 1979 during the height of their Dog and Butterfly album tour. They where unbelievable good. Both of them where so freakin' gorgeous and they rocked the place like it has never been rocked before or since. Ann did Dog and Butterfly perfectly. It was an experience I will never forget. Thank you Heart for giving us so many years of your very best. You are legends, now, and forever.
I saw Heart live in 1984 in Fayettville, NC when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg and from go to woe these ladies rocked their asses off that night!! Happy to say that Heart is one of the inductees into the 2013 class of the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, and it's much deserved. Back in the early 70's women were either dolled up disco divas or singer/songwriters, I.E., Carol King, Joni Mitchell, etc.. But Ann & Nancy Wilson kicked open a lot doors for women in rock that previously weren't open to women.
Thanks for taking the time to post this video for us. Low resolution or not, it's great to see. I saw Heart open for the Doobie Bros. right before Dreamboat Annie hit big. Nobody had heard of them, and the Wilson sisters really threw it down in the short time they had on stage. Ann could (can) really belt it out.
I remember this song every time I was running home. I've always loved Heart because they are so stunning, talented and, most of all, Ann's voice. I use to zone out listening to her. I'm always impressed when I see beautiful Nancy play the guitar. Let this spell last forever...Oooo yeah
+Tracy Todden That is like so cool to hear that you saw them in concert a week ago! I have been trying to see them, but some thing comes up and blocks me? Sorry for the delay but, I had to be away for two weeks, so I borrowed my son's mobile. I tried to watch, listen and reply, but the screen was too tiny! When he use to come and see me, I told him that I didn't need it any more. lol Now I'm back and I'm trying to catch up with my notifications.
Saw these gals live in Fayettville, NC back in 1983 when I was stationed at Ft. Bragg, NC. It was during their period of spandex and big hair, and Eddie Money was their opening act on that particular tour. But even with the big hair, the skin tight close, and the thick makeup, these chicks rocked their asses off!!! Love Heart!!
I seen Heart in 1978 on the Dog And Butterfly tour....2nd row dead center for $8.00 and this video brings me right back to my seat.....I also have pictures from that show that have them wearing the same clothes! Great music and memories...back in the day when we would wait in line all night for the best seats. Good stuff, thanks for posting! Too bad you can't find music like this anymore that stands the test of time. So to all you Heart Mongers out there....ROCK ON....!
This was really the first I have ever seen this video she sounded great on the album and 8 track in the 70's but really showed her voice in the 80's and present she'll ann too always be a part of me. I loved her voice.
These ladies were and are still sooo legit...they have the very rare ability to be bad ass rock singers and still make a man think of them as real ladies...that's a lost art. Ann, is by far the greatest rock female vocalist of all time....
The new Heartbreaker tour is awesome. A must for Led Zeppelin fans. Saw it the other night, and the girls still got it. One of the best concerts I have ever seen.
Amazing how Ann Wilson could sing a song -- in that petformance at least -- with such perfection. It's like a young woman that's so good looking that nothing she can do with her face looks anything but cute. Every sound from Ann Wilson in that performace is perfectly executed, beautiful to hear and as flawless as any studio recording.
love it, loved it in the day and still do. Playing it in my band , im a female vocalist. And yes they and Rush should both be in the Rock in Roll hall of Shame!! (Shame on them for not putting these two bands in yet!!)
I saw them in 1978 at Alpine Valley theatre, I was about 14, they were awesome. I ran out and bought the album the next day and played it till my mom was sick of hearing it.
Hayleen...I'm just grateful that you uploaded it. My Mama used to say..."Beggars aren't choosers"...kind of like a homeless person griping about the food at a soup kitchen. Not that there's anything wrong with homeless people...somebody will be saying something about my disliking homeless people. We are all a dollar away from that state ourselves.
It’s too bad that this original line up of Heart fell apart not long after this show. Roger, Michael & Steven are soooo good with Leese & the Wilson Sisters. This is the true magic chemistry that brought Heart to the world.
This was by far & away my favorite song of '78. I got see them live in San Diego that year... they just don't make music like this any more - there's a story behind it - what a trip!
Ann and Nancy...yummee!! But seriously, they were (and still are) a completely awesome band! I didn't know they weren't in the R&R hall of fame! How is that possible!!?? Was Barracuda not a big enough hit? Was Ann's voice not quite good enough and Nancy's guitar playing not up to scratch? Madonna in the Hall of Fame? Please!! I was 14 when Barracuda came out, and couldn't believe what I was hearing!! Still one of the best songs ever, and Straight On is just brilliant!
Back then we where all funky. Most of us in the Pop scene where deeply versed in Motown, and the preceding disco mania. It was a great time to be young and with it. Pop and rock in the early 80s, was heavily influenced by the soulful, funky era of the 70s, and these cats where no exception.
Wow, Ann blows me away with her voice, what an awesome vocalist. She's so hot too. Brunettes are my fave and her beautiful eyes are a stunning luminescent brown. If you look at them from a few glamor shots of her you can see what I mean. I truly love her. Nancy is a very lovely and talented woman also. Christ certainly gifted my girls. We are proud of you'll Ann and Nancy. The guys used to bust my chops for listening to a 'girly band' as they called Heart back when they came out, but I ignored them because I foresaw that these two 'foxy' young ladies were going to be historic in the music business, and that's exactly what has happened. Keep rocking girls, we love you.
Thanks Ann and Nancy. Such beautiful music that brightened our lives for many years. Life music. Innocence mixed with reality. Lyrics that reflected life and made simple sense. Then the machine tried to objectify y'all - I think - in your later years but... We kinda knew it wasn't the dreamboat Annie and the Butterfly singing those songs and making those videos. Thanks again 40 years later Ladies. 😊
Hacía muchos años que buscaba este video. Tengo 50 años y este tema musical es de la época de mi escuela secundaria. GRACIAS... THANK YOU!!! por regalarnos este gran momento. Ann Wilson y Nancy Lamoureux Wilson ¡Grandes! Qué estilo y qué grandes voces.
That was probably the best performance of Heart , just before Fisher left the band. They were perfect at this time. Artistic and confident. Unfortunately the video quality is bad.
Hobbitangle I was there sept 2 pi r. Portland or went by myself partied with people I didn't no missed my greyhound home was stranded over night until I could get back to Longview the next morning.outdoor show I will never forget!
Highways6 It was in Portland, you sure? I've heard that was in Toronto Exposition Hall. Though It doesn't matter anyway. Wish this video of better quality. I fact this is my favorite vid of Heart. There is another one "Crazy On Tou" filmed at the same stage the same time, judging by their way and clothes.
i agree about video quality but the vocals, guitar, bass and drums are in sync, generating staccato beats; the whole band does such a good job with their timing! they're unbeatable, i can look away and ignore the video
@@stephanvillavicencio5679 I did say in topic: They are _perfect_ at this moment. They all, the vocals, guitars and the sync. But I really admire Ann Wilson's performance. She's undeniable.
One of the best concerts that I ever went to was a FREE Heart concert outdoors at The Hatch Shell in Boston in April of 1977. I was on my boyfriend's shoulders, about 20 feet from the stage. Unforgettable. Perfect weather too. (The boyfriend was a loser who tried to ruin it for me, and I finally got him out of my life a couple of months later, but but still a good memory.)
Nancy ,Howard and Roger are all underrated guitars players but not any more , they went to the Hall. They are now where they belong, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This group is one of the tightest bands ever and now they will be remembered long after we all leave this planet. Great job to a deserving bunch of cats.
Wow! I saw them at the Ky State Fair then also. Annie was mesmerizing! And yes, so sexy. She didn't even have to try! Also, I was amazed at how well Nancy played that guitar. No BS, just incredible talent! How I miss those times!
I was at that show , snuck in, At the old Cardinal stadium ,been gone now a few years , they had the summer jams there too , Ted Nugent , REO ( when they were good) wow that's been a while.
I was fortunate enough to see Heart 3 or 4 times back in the day. Love the Dog & Butterfly album. Wore it out and bought the cd. Great live band. Totally rocked. Ann's great vocals and Nancy's great guitar work, and her vocals were pretty good too.along with the rest of the band. Great times.
My girls ! Can't wait to see them again on 7/31! My 6 th time..last time (5) was at the RFK center ..DC..Foo's 20th year anniversary show ..but I broke my leg 1 day before the show ..on crutches..Hell yeah I'm going..this fabulous lady cruised me up from door in a wheel chair then drop you off ,to the the greatest handicapped seats, but it's just not the same ..I had great view of the stage from sitting..and had no tall people in front of me..& I made the rail! ..we gave her a tip for her Sense of Urgency..I already walked in from parking lot.. lol..#crutchessuck
They were doing it long before any other women were fronting a band. They rocked for many years before changing their sound, and NO ONE sings like Ann !!! That alone should get them in the Hall of Fame. Until that day it's The Hall of Shame !!!
My favorite Heart album for sure and probably would make my top 20 albums of all time. Not a bad track on either side. They had many great songs / albums before and after Dog & Butterfly but they were at their peak when they released that album.
no lady has ever sounded better than Ann wilson
Linda Ronstadt
nope
Awesome voice! If only i wasn't a toddler back then and could've saw them live!
lol no.
AMEN!
Very cool. This is a difficult song to sing live technically-- with all those fast, high-pitched, bird-like little flourishes in the melodic line-- and she sounds awesome. She's the real thing.
It sucks they don't make music like this anymore...heart best ever
Anne Wilson...THE best female rock vocalist of all time. Category closed....and SEXY!

I love the way Ann looks at Nancy when she's singing the chorus, she's totally jamming!!! love her
In what a wonderful voice Ann was singing!
No woman can take the place of her.
She can sing her ass off. Amazing voice.

Ann might be the best live female singer ever, wow - the lady was and is truly gifted.
Her vocals are perfect
Heart rocks, no other band could capture their sound. Ann Wilson is a vocal Goddess!!
If only today's artists could sound this good live
Why don't the guys who play guitar in Heart ever get any recognition? They rock.
Great song. AWESOME vocals!

Listen to the words...of course. Heart doesn't need to "sell" anything. The music is universal.
Ann sings like an angel.

Thanks for the upload! They still look and sound fantastic here! Ann & Nancy still can rock the house!!!!!
Totally agree with you. This is, by far, my favorite album. It's absolutely perfect!
They were doing it long before any other women were fronting a band. They rocked for many years before changing their sound, and NO ONE sings like Ann !!!
That alone should get them in the Hall of Fame. Until that day it's The Hall of Shame !!!
DAMN.....the power of this Goddess's voice...
My favorite Heart album for sure and probably would make my top 20 albums of all time. Not a bad track on either side. They had many great songs / albums before and after Dog & Butterfly but they were at their peak when they released that album.
