9 months ago I was over 330 lbs and cycled to the shops twice a week, now I am sub 290 lbs and regularly rider 100 miles a week. All from using my hybrid bike consistently and build myself up slowly. Great tips in the video, keep the good work.
1 Year into my cycling I'm getting ready for the challenges of winter. I have a winter bike with mudguards now. But what a great year cycling. 80 mile ride completed. a sportive and a bike pack overnight just three of my goals completed. Winter goals are keeping my fitness up in the terrible weather.

I felt really happy to see my two favorite presenters make this video as I decided to get back into cycling after 3 years off.. Thanks and keep good guys.. ❤From Trinidad 🇹🇹
Since I was a kid, I loved cycling and I have cycled on and off my whole life. Now I am retired and been walking for about a year. I've come up with my own attempt at "cross training". I started walking and got up to five miles, now in the past six months I have added cycling to my schedule with good results. Just this past week I have started weight training not over doing it like I did back in younger years. GCN channel has motivated me with great info about nutrition and recovery, and being here in Arizona with summer coming on, the most important lesson I must learn is HYDRATION. Thank you all for the great videos.
3:34~ For me, a large part of it is knowing I am consciously doing something about lowering my carbon footprint. Loved the vid Manon and Son-of-Hank's-Dad!!!
Top Tip. Ride the bike you got. Took me two years to go from 32km ride to 4000km race. And don’t be frightened of night rides nor sleeping out overnight either men and women, fear of is much more than the risk of anything happening sleeping out.
I am now 6 months ahead of training on the bike with a clear objective. Doing a sprint triatlon. That gives me good motivation. Luckily for me the weather over here is always smooth and I can train all over the year outdoors. Nevertheless I do sometimes train indoor. Would like to have a wahoo for that but they are pretty expensive over here. More than 10 minimum wages. That is a pity. Would like to be able to rent it or to have it available in my gym.
indoor training is very good in rainy days as you mentioned and also when you feel a bit sick and dont want to venture into the cold. I use a good ol' static bike for that though, I don't have Zwift or anything similar :/
Been trying to get back in after 2.5 years being unable to ride. Talk about a stuttered start. The hoods on the brakes needed replacing and despite the correct reference off the brake lever, the hoods are too big. The bike needed a serious tune up. I stacked it in traffic because a car changed lanes on me without indicating. (Bone density test passed, no breaks). And so on to last Sunday where, it took me 48 minutes to travel 8k to and through the city. On the ride back home, all the starts and stops at traffic lights broke me and according to my computer, I had burned up 593 calories to travel just under 14k. I probably never rolled more than 3 minutes between stops except on the Harbour Bridge. Now it's back on the trainer to build up my stamina.
I am doing the Iron horse bicycle classic in May. Ride from Durango Colorado 6512 feet in elevation to Silverton Colorado 9318 in elevation with a high in elevation at 10914 feet on the second mountain pass that is over 10000 feet
Last year I was lucky to ride 50km a week during the nice weather. This year I made it my goal to ride to work at least 1 of my 2 in office days each week. I then started going for 15-30km rides after work at least 1 of my 3 work at home days. In August I joined the Great Canadian Cycle Challenge to raise money for Sick Kids Hospital and ended up riding over 600km in Aug alone. I took a break at the beginning of September but unfortunately had a bad crash a few weeks ago so have been struggling to ride more than 15km before the pain in my arm becomes too much. But it's not enough to keep me off my bike and I will try to commute thorugh the fall until we get snow or the temp drops below 7c(I don't have a winter bike nor winter gear) I'll then jump onto Fulgaz for the winter. Honestly, I find Strava helps me as I compete against myself and try to beat my previous top 3 rideson each route. My other exercise is just walking and at home stretching(and hope to go back to my winter cardio kickboxing classes when my arm feels better).
Thanks for the tips! GCN has an indoor training channel? Will definitely look into that when indoor training season starts, in early November for me... Thank you!
I finally got a road bike (merida 300 endurance). I have a goal to do brissy to the bay (130 km) ride next June. I am quite unfit being 130kg and having a smattering of health conditions including a macroadenoma and multiple sclerosis. I have been watching your videos ever since I got this crazy idea to ride the brissy to the bay and I am set up on a trainer until I get my weight down below 100kg ( take the pressure off the spokes ) but if the upcoming pituitary tumour surgery is done quickly and recovery is swift then in September I will be challenging myself to the starlight ride on the trainer and have set a goal of 300km over 30 days. ( this may be increased depending on progress ) This will ensure consistency on riding daily on the trainer and have already started this past week. Currently I am doing 20 min riides to get used to the bike and getting 7km on 20 min
Don't be cheap on buying a second hand without knowing how to check and maintain it. THE most important thing you need to be able to do as a cyclist is to know how to spot red flags. How to repair them and how to know if it's lethal or not. Let's say an average Joe wouldn't mind if he was cyling at 45kmh downhill and he notices that hist frkn tire has an horizontal axis meaning in ecah rotation it goes a bit right to the left not a oerfevt 90 degrees to the ground rotation but a 85 to 95 degree each rotation. You'll die that's no joke, happened to me don't want to see someone else get hurt by this.
I had a goal. Damn right I had a goal and boy did it work. However, I made it and am trying to find a new one. Especially over the winter period.... that's not easy.
Thanks for all your efforts. Little do you know we will be using bikes to travel our land and plant fruit forests for All Life. Cycling saves. I 💘 love cycling. Let's seriously create a Global International Cycling Movement Program. A multi cultural all ages and levels events that promote good food and high quality behavior. Currently I am out of town with my family and unfortunately that I have not brought my bike with me. However, my dad's got an old folding bike at the house. I have been riding it 5 days a week for almost a month now. I am wondering if my fitness could improve by riding this tiny folding bike and when I get back home, could my body get start where I left off before going out of town without the road bike?
A bike is a bike! Keep spinning and you'll find that fitness rockets 🚀 It's amazing what you can do on a folder! 👉 th-cam.com/video/CCAwg9OMa84/w-d-xo.html
The main advice is to buy a bike. It is necessary to understand that your speed is not up to a simple step on the gas, but on your physical capabilities: you've trained well - you'll go fast!
Nowadays I work just a bit too far off, which is a shame. I can reach it, but it takes just a bit too long. Also, the work kit. And showers or lack thereof.
A road bike will generally have 25 or 28mm tyres these days (used to be 22 / 24), for gravel it will be 32 to 40mm, depending on the clearance of the forks and the type of riding. Rougher terrain, wider tyres. However, my Trek Domane endurance bike has 32mm for road. They've all been getting wider in recent years.
Hey Guys I just want to start my Cycling journey and I’m confuse about which bike (my budget 3000 dollars and I’m living in Australia) is anyone can help me please
My road bike is gathering dust in the garage, and I would love to give it a service and get back out, but the roads are far too dangerous for me now. I’m bored of being a target
I think the perception is worse than the reality. Maybe plan the times of road riding differently, rebuild your road riding confidence. Ride at least a metre out from the kerb so drivers can see you and when road narrows, ride further out to block a dangerous to you pass. Find a ride partner who can accompany you. Depending where you are, there are probably good network of cycle paths to get back out on and build from there. 👍
Just friggin exhausted. Back from a 400 mile, high altitude, four day tour. Bike still filthy in the truck, a week later. Don't care. No interest. Been biking since 1978. Maybe April. Unless the wife interviens.
Well worth it though. Obviously things cost money. Like ur internet. Dying and being able to complain about everything are the only free things in life. Heck, not even dying is free. Now stop complaining and buy the trainer if u feel u need one. If not, shaddup and ride outdoors
@@alaefarmestatesllc If you are here since Manon was hired, in the beginning the duo was in a series of videos together. In the end of said video she even leaves Hank's fist bump hanging.. Then mysteriously they were rarely seen in the same video. This is all based on my recollection plus voices in my head. Yeah, I've also noticed that we hardly ever see Manon outdoors with anybody other than Conor, for whatever reason. It could be some logistics, it could be a matter of on-camera chemistry, or maybe some people get along better in real life. I can only speculate.

Find a club to ride with. The other riders "pull you along", there is safety in numbers and you've got help with any mechanicals or punctures.
