You guys live in one of the absolute best skiing states in the country. GET THOSE KIDS INTO SKIING! Perfect activity for the entire family as they get older.
Do you guys utilize your local library? We LOVE the library! Ours has storytime weekly, a STEM class for ages 5-11 every other Thursday (I “drop off” my girls which means they’re in a room in the library for an hour & I get to peacefully look for books for myself until they’re done 😂) there’s also so many family activities at the library in the evenings!
I get the same way during winter but found that getting out more helps. As a preschool teacher, I know the germs of kid friendly places can be bad especially in the winter months but washing hands before you leave those places does help reduce getting sick a lot. Some of our favorite things to do in the winter are library story times, indoor sport center, mommy and me yoga classes, baby/toddler music classes, play groups, children’s museum, indoor play spaces, indoor pool/waterpark, indoor playgrounds, bowling, ice skating, sledding, and visiting our local nature reserves. We also use the winter months to do all the fun activities like swim lessons, dance lessons, indoor soccer league, gymnastics, indoor tennis, martial arts, building creation classes, science classes, and art classes. For ideas at home we do a lot of free art with all the basic art supplies plus things like paint sticks, bingo dotters, clay, chalk. Then a lot of sensory things like Kinetic sand, play-doh, and sensory bins. We also play a lot of card games and board games. Toy rotations also help. Also making sure you have the right gear for outside can make a big difference; not all coats keep you as warm as you need to be. Wool layers work wonders. Being outside even for a few minutes a day can be so beneficial to everyone including Clara.
Hear me out, but getting back into reading has really helped any seasonal depression situations I've struggled with. Like rainy day-cozy book time. Dark, cold snowy day-perfect reading cozy weather, like I just can't explain it, but it's so lovely 😅❤
You have Seasonal Affective Disorder and it’s super common. I love the winter time with all the rain but if I go too many days without sun I will get SAD, too. The best thing to do is to get outside when you can and try to keep busy with things you enjoy. If I can go away for a few days or something I need to get out more. Take care of yourself and don’t stay cooped up or woozy too much about getting sick. It may happen but you will fight it off better if you aren’t depressed. Love your sweet family. Take care.
She has too many children at home but wants more she should focus on her mental health and stop adding to it , poor children they don't even have a social life , she needs help
@@vivsreds1006 Probably not only a winter thing. I actually feel better in the winter weather than in summer. So I really like the winter compared to summer and I prefer cooler weather.
Helpful hints for the SAD days of winter. Get out in nature as much as possible. Exercise, a handy-craft hobby (think - crochet, knitting, adult coloring, painting, drawing, reading, puzzles, etc,) at home spa days with or without the girls, positive affirmations, in home scavenger hunts for the kids, but find something YOU enjoy doing for yourself and take time (15 min, 30 min, an hour, two hours) at least once a week to do it.
Katie, have you considered SAD, seasonal affective disorder. It's not a bad thing, one thing I do as a Canadian is light therapy, and boosting my vitamin D !
I was going to suggest light therapy too (hello also from 🇨🇦) we bought our light therapy lamp from amazon. 15-20 minutes each day helps a lot! For the girls suggest getting them into a skating or 'Little Rocks' curling program (Ella & Avery should be old enough) not sure if you have that in your area? Or tobogganing, building snow forts, a game of street/ice shinny is always good, get the neighbours' kids involved.
Hi Katie, i am so sorry for sickness that you been getting every single year and i pray for all of you getting better and better...😢😢😢 for my resolutions this year is i want to get better at crochet and doing youtube more ❤❤❤
Hey girl, I personally embroider in the winter for my sanity, and for kids I have a boy so obviously they might not enjoy certain things but, looking for animal tracks in the snow, following them, talking about the animals it may be, we like to obviously sled, and a good inside thing is painting birdhouses, to put up when the snow goes away and put them out when the birds come back(good learning opportunity about migrational birds)
I feel the same way about germs but I’m like they end up getting sick if we stay home or not so getting some sort of membership somewhere has helped me a ton. Lots local hotel offer just pool memberships or this year I found a local indoor play ground I got a membership at and we go almost every other day and I’m not gonna lie I thought we would be way more sick going so often but we haven’t been any more sick than any other winter
Aww, I hope Ella feels better soon. I live in South Carolina and we normally have very mild winters, but we are having a colder than normal January so far I don’t like it. I’m sorry you’re feeling a little down! ❤
I feel you about winter. I am struggling too. my 17 month old jsut got over a virus and it was awful. we usually go to the library but been trying to avoid it bc there are so many germs right now but staying home with a toddler all day is so hard 😅
I grow up in Denver. We roller skated or rollerbladed in our unfinished basement until we finished it. Also big boxes like a refrigerator box. They can build a fort and or color on it.
Hi, about what you said about being scared to bring your young baby outside for a long amount of time in the winter. I am from Norway and our winters are quite long, so we can't stay inside until the sun comes out again. Studies show that babies benefit for being outside. It helps develop a strong immune system and strong healthy lungs. So as long as the baby wears enough clothes they are totally fine being outside. People here usually let their baby take naps in the stroller outside and they get such good sleep. The older kids can also get the same benefits from being outside. As a kid my parents would take me on walks/hikes, go feed the ducks at a nearby pond or go sledding if there was snow. Most of my childhood was spent outside and i rarely got sick.
whatever cold is going around is the worst I’ve ever had in my 26 years 🥴 So I’m the same way, & actually this year my seasonal depression started kicking in in September 😭 Taking supplements to support my mood & help with the lack of sunshine & time outside like l-theanine & extra vitamin d has helped a lot! As well as red light therapy. I like to have things to look forward to which is hard when I get anxiety about going out with kids & potentially getting sick. So I take myself to get lots of little treats -taking a drive to get coffee or redbull on a sunny day is good for my soul. Or I’ll take the kids over to the grandparents house for a change of scenery or we might just go walk around a store or just go for a drive for a bit. Getting time out of the house is crucial because I don’t like feeling cooped up & my kids definitely need time out because they get so bored
Get a natural sun lamp. Start planning or researching a future holiday. Puzzles or a project helps. I knit a blanket for all 6 of my grandchildren. For Ella’s cold …… soup goes down well!
We live in AZ so definitely not cold as Colorado but I have always taken my babies out. Even when we were in Chicago. Being outside benefits us all. And remember the cold weather doesn’t make you sick. People get sick during the cold season most because viruses thrive in warmer climates (house, store, library, etc) where people tend to gather and spread all the yuckiness to get out of the cold.
If the girls have blocked sinuses or nose, just put a half onion besides their beds, they open up everything. Just a tip from a mom of 4 (adult) children. It's a simple thing to do for colds ❤
I hate the winter too . I have tonsillitis at the moment had to go the doctors got penicillin and a throat spray. We have snow at the moment. Love from uk. Xx
It's times like this when my girls go back to school that I wish I could homeschool, they didn't end up getting it from school, but one of my girls picked it up from somewhere, and then I got it. And we were sick from 3 days before Christmas, all the way until today. I am still sick.I have an inner ear infection that is so bad that my entire left side of my face and ear is swollen. And i've actually lost the hearing in my left ear. It's very terrifying to be honest
We have a trampoline and let them get their energy out and if they feel to cold we go inside and color. My oldest likes to sit in front of a mirror and try to draw herself
Sounds like the lack of daylight is affecting you. Look into buying a special light to help counteract that. I forget what it's called but it's for seasonal affective disorder.
I have a 4 year old an almost 3 year old and my youngest is exactly the same age like Clara. We’ve been avoiding public spaces in the winter also since my youngest doesn’t have a great immune system. But to keep the big kids entertained we went a lot to small hills to slide down. My youngest always sleeps through all of that while tucked in his stroller. I’m going through the same like you right now with him he barely sleeps in the night and when we are inside. But as soon as we go out he sleeps in his stroller hours on end and that with every winter weather. So maybe just try it it could help with both your problems. Sorry if this isn’t much helpful because I live in germany and i don’t know if it would work in the USA
Would you please explain the reason why you spelled her name the way that you did. I've been looking for it in your videos and I can't seem to find it. Thank you so much for answering my question.
We are staying inside the rest of winter. 12/30 we had a babysitter who didn’t know they had norovirus and we’ve all been vomiting since (including a 4 mo old 😭)
You should definitely have her checked for an ear infection! Between not sleeping and a goopy eye with a stuffy nose, it is very possible! Hoping y'all get some sleep soon!
The fact that you want to avoid the kids getting sick makes it hard to think of things to do. I could suggest a trampoline park, but that's a public place with other children, and yeah. So i guess look up a lot of arts and crafts.
I'm also the same exact way, i do not like winter whatsoever. I love the holidays october-December I'm in love, then January comes and I'm sad and depressed
Id go outside with the kids if its cold or not...for short period of time..i live in Canada its cold,,its healthy ,staying inside isnf good for the kidz or u..u cant fully avoid sickness
I was going to say the same thing you probably have a seasonal depression which is a low vitamin D3 level. So if you take vitamin D3 capsules it'll help you with it.

We like to take trips to the park and hiking if it's not too cold in the winter. Right now, we are stuck inside. We got over a foot of snow here.
