I actually love this song. Not everything has to be “grand and mystical” or “outrageously campy” to be Queen. John Deacon’s songs are more pop-oriented, it’s true. But if a casual listener’s ear was caught by a Deacon “standard pop” song, that’s another listener drawn in to listen to the rest of the album. John’s songs are radio-friendly and perfectly geared for Pop and Light Rock radio stations… and for businesses to pipe in something better than Muzak (aka Elevator Music) in their shops. It’s also a “romantic” song without being cringey-sweet nor blatantly filled with innuendoes. A perfect song for young couples starting to feel the first hints of Love and not wanting to overthink it all, just enjoy each other’s company.
This is a great point. The whole idea of an LP is to have a bit of variety with dynamics, tempo and styles... at least back in the day that was the case. Can you imagine 8 or 9 "millionaire waltz" type tunes? Just would not work. This is a really catchy tune with a beautiful chorus and some nice chords in there.
Deaky such an interesting guy… wore his heart on his sleeve. Always had talent which showed more and more as time went by. I miss him but he did the right thing retiring when Freddie died. No Freddie No Queen. ( if people are honest ) and Freddie and John were really good friends. Every song can’t be a masterpiece and you are right… It’s fine 😂✌🏼 Happy New Year 💫💥✨🥂🥂
Another 70's pop-rock song that sort of defined what became known as Brit-pop. It almost reminds me of Elton John. What makes it Queen for me is how much work went into the vocal arrangement.
Nice. Only in Millionaire waltz there is enough ideas for some bands to make a whole album out of them. Your vocabulary is fine (at least for me as non-native), and your presentations are great, honest and to the point ! Cheers !
Well, it doesn`t have to be an epic masterpiece all the time. Same with movies, some you just watch to relax. Not having to think or so, just enjoy. This is like that.
You And I - by John Deacon John Deacon: Acoustic guitar and bass Brian May: Backing vocals and electric guitar Freddie Mercury: Piano, lead and backing vocals Roger Taylor: Backing vocals and drums
Thanks, Justin.. Deaky always wrote the sweetest songs!... (not particularly great, as you say...but still a nice bit). appreciate your going through the catalogue...
Another of my favs from the LP. I think you had a better reaction the first time you listened to it. Back in 1976 there wasn't much like this.... the only band/artist I could think of with a similar sounding piano riff would be Elton John... and of course nobody sounds like Freddie... the chorus is quite something..
While I like all of John's songs, many of them are on the simple side, but most have a clear message. He did get better with time and on some of them, Freddie really helped him with them. Thank you for your reaction.
In queen's early years John and roger didn't contribute allot to writing but Freddie encouraged them to develop their writing skills and helped them with their songs. Freddie connected more with John's lighthearted style where roger was more of a rock and roll style or very punk which Brian hated and probably why the song sheer heart attack was never added to the 1974 album but released later when it became more mainstream
As a 14 year old hearing and seeing Queen on TV in 1974 perform Killer Queen, it was Mercury, his singing voice and the unique sound and style of the band which fascinated me. All their albums I'd look for the Mercury songs first, then some of the May songs became epic too. But it was only the Mercury singing that really made me listen to whole albums. Then, as time wore on, I came to understand the amazing talents of each member and what they brought to the band. *However* .... I do wonder what Queen without Freddie would have become? To me, he was the difference, that sprinkle of genius and magic which elevated the whole band. I mean, I've listened to them with Paul Rogers and Adam Lambert, including some new material they did with them. Would they have been the same band had they started out with them? Clearly not, but I'm not even sure that May, Deacon and Taylor would have survived together. We'll never know
It is possible, or even likely that they wouldn't make any career without Freddie (even with him it was difficult enough), but I think that them 3 had enough raw talent like any other band from that period, even more so. They were very good, unique on their instruments, they could sing, and they could write very good or even exceptional songs.
@@milosbogdanovic3229 I think as musicians they certainly would have survived and done well. But together? I don't know. Deacon could not carry on without Mercury. Their relationship seemed key to me to the continuity of the band. Of course, it's all guesswork and what ifs, but I do often wonder
I don't think they would have been anything without Freddie. I think Freddie was determined to be a Rock Legend, nothing would stop him. The rest of the band, may have just taken careers in their fields of education, but for Freddie belief in them.
@@kimd.9070 Well, I actually think that Freddie needed them as much as they needed him, if for no other reason, than because they might be the only three musicians who could understand, suppoort and correctly get across his ideas. I don't believe that he would do anything without them.
I agree with you. After all Freddie is the one to woo Brian and Roger and John Deacon was picked for his musically ability and his temperment. @@milosbogdanovic3229
Nice reaction! John Deacon was really a pop song writer. But I think this is good pop song. It probably would have done better in the charts then Brian May's Long Away. You should react to Freddie Mercury's solo album Barcelona, it has great song writing but it is definitely quite different.
Justin - You did actually do a reaction to You and I a while ago. Clearly it didn't leave a great impression. It's another one of those 'fine' songs. Plus I think your grasp of the English language is fine, only joking !.
here is a link to your earlier reaction to You and I, together with your girlfriend. Did not make a big impression on you, appearantly :) th-cam.com/video/_lrAcmRYjZU/w-d-xo.html

@@neilloughran4437 Yes it has a strong emphasis on the piano boogie boogie style that is very rhythmic.

The "walking in the moonlight" section is brilliant... one of my favorite Queen moments.
me too... takes me back to listening in my bedroom in 1977.
you must like Queen II side 2 then..?
@@TONE11111 It's like you read my mind.
A very underrated piece in their discography. An upbeat reliable number. It's very contagious and infectious.
Not even released as a single and better than most of the shit we hear today...

That's wondering how somebody don't know these songs. I live with it almost all my life.

Sweet song. Great reaction
Nice song; nice reaction. Looking forward to the second side.❤
Very much in the mood of ‘Don’t stop me now’
It's just good to listen to.
Just ok to my ears.
This has Deacon written all over it.

Justin your doing a fantastic job to go this far listing to Queen. You do know that there are a lot more albums to go?
but only a couple more 'listenable'

It has many decorative elements that one expects with Queen but nothing special.
The song is like a shrug in musical form.
If you liked Prophets Song, you'll love White Man and Drowse.
Drowse is a top 5 Queen song for me.

Yea, nothing in particular special. John Deacons songwriting is improving though. Thanks for all your reactions!
