I think one of the most important factors that most Westerners haven't been able to understand is, the reason that the West in general could have been so successful in the past few hundreds of years, is simply because they respected science and technology, and put them into industrial sectors. But till this very day, I still see so many ppl in the West believing in they success because they are the West. This colonial era mindset is so poisonous, and keep backfiring at themselves. There was a period in China that they needed to sell millions of jeans if not hundreds of millions, to import an airplane from the West, and trust me, if the Collective West continue acting the way they are right now in the next decades, they would eventually find themselves need to do the same like the Chinese back then, when China comes back to where it has been in the last thousands of years, and the global south in general rise with it. And this is not something impossible.
It's the tide in and tide out. Here in the US, we have a growing number of elected politicians who believe that the earth is flat, that viruses, bacteria, and genes aren't real. Also, in spite of huge crop losses and major upticks in weather phenomenon, the average American doesn't accept Climate Change. The US will never return to what it was because it's collective mind has become primitive. We may Balkanize, allowing for brain drain to more intellectually friendly regions, but that's the most one can expect for the future.
@@cheungchingtong it's mostly because they were plundering huge amount of resources and value from their colonies for 500 years. It helped build their industrial foundation that leads to generating excess capacity and capital, which they use to raise the standard of living and education. So of course, they get to indulge in scientific research while the rest of the world is mired in poverty, brought upon them by western colonialism. Even today, the US is still supported by the exorbitant privilege of the USD that allows them to extract value from the rest of us through financial neocolonialism. The colonial mindset is indeed poisonous, but it is the only mindset that west has operated for the last 500 years.
That is a great 'creative writing' fantasy about how you want things to be. China becomes 'The West' and now The West will be self-punished to become poor China! Now China is the captain now! and China isn't guilty because 'The Collective West' is actually who lowered themselves by their own ignorance haha! but it's a creative writing fantasy. This isn't what is actually happening in your real life and is currently going the opposite trend where you and everyone else in China is poorer than you were 7 years ago. There is nothing new. There is no innovation. There are just a LOT of things that are now 8 years old but 8 years older. You're also living in a fantasy of 'The Collective West' and your Orwellian 'Global South' and these are, as Orwell's book had them, not real.

20 years ago, the area near Shenzhen Shekou Sea World was a gathering place for foreigners. There were German beer bars, Irish bars, Turkish kebabs, Indian restaurants, Thai food, Vietnamese food, and a "Beatles nightclub" where customers had to queue up to enter. Many foreigners were businessmen who came to China early to look for business opportunities, and there were also many people from Hong Kong and Taiwan. Early businesses especially needed middlemen who were good at English and Chinese to handle the quality requirements, production leadtime, delivery schedule and seafreight shipping of orders.
