Herb Chambers Honda of Seekonk wow if you knew Honda uses GM batteries for their electric vehicles and tech from GM. Honda still uses CVT's whicg they should leave in the pass. C'mon that's the only thing that got Honda saving up.
Monkiimagic not really.. Just depends on what you like. like the engine performance of the Chevy Cruze giving me 250 HP opposed to 175 HP on Honda Civic & still get very good gas mileage on both. Although both vehicles look nice I think the Civic wins that category but not by very much because both look good.
The Cruze is a powerful opponent but in my view just doesn't match up to the Civic Hatch. Great video again Laura!

The Chevy has nice lines, looks expensive; like a Caddy. Although I love Hondas, I'm sorry but the Civic looks like some weird stink bug inspired alien space ship. Inside of the Honda looks plain, the Chevy looks like the Starship Enterprise inside. Gotta give this one to Chevy.
Out of those two I would go for the Mazda 3 Hatchback.

You didn't show or talk about the Cruze's centre console at all, but you did show and talk about the Civic's. Also, you talked showed us and about the drop down arm rest in the CIvic, but I could tell when you were in the back seat of the Cruze there was a drop down arm rest too that you never pulled down to show us.

Kenneth Keuffel you have to be really young, ignorant and naive to be making some of the ridiculous claims that your making. your one of those people that is one sided and refuses to actually do there homework outside there own preconceived biased notions. I've said I like Chevy trucks, even though they've had some shitty ones, I'll also admit that they make some decent sports cars every once in awhile, but all in all its completely ludicrous to actually state that Chevy makes a better car than Honda. Yes some Chevys can't get up there in miles. But there reputation doesn't prove there worth, there is a reason Chevy needed a bale out, go back and look at the reason again if you don't believe what I'm saying. Honda of Japan had suffered some major set backs from the down turn of the economy plus fukushima. ..oh did you forget that already? I recently purchased a Chevy Cruze hatch and you don't have to go around to each rear door to fold the seats down. All you need to do is remove the cover and then it's the same as the Honda.
The cruze is ugly as a pile of shit from the 90s and will be in the landfil in 7 yrs.

What I like about the Cruze is that it has a real automatic as opposed to a rubber band transmission (CVT).
The Civic sedan blows this hatchback away.
and negative on Black-optic. The signature silver trim on the front of the Honda Civic, Accord cars give it the distinctive look.

sirgrundel the sport in a manual is the best option. 180hp at 5500rpm and 177ft lbs. With a cvt its 180hp at 6000rpm and 162ft lbs.
TheRoyalking761 no, they are already out! I have a few Sport manuals at the dealership I work at, they are hard to keep. Haha As soon as people know they arrive, they come in and buy them!

Civic looks ok. Chevy looks like an inbread catfish.
Honda is doing well, but I have to say some of these new Chevy cars are horrible. I just feel like Chevy design has got a little weird. I'm not a Honda fan but looking at these cars side by side the Honda looks better on both exterior and interior and it holds a reasonable amount of HP to make highway merges more realistic while keeping MPG decent.
You know in a highway merge your going to be flooring the shit out of the Chevy in order to get up to highway speed.
I'm not in the market for either but I would buy the civic over the Chevy anyday

Exterior Civic is more Comic book modern. Chevy is more smooth and conservative. Civic interior is simple, plain compact. The drive- Sturdy, heavy, sporty, bulkier. Chevy interior is simple, classy and stylish. Plenty of compartments and spacious. The drive- (Auto stop is irritating) The drive is smooth, heavy, compact and relatively sporty.

Thats english made civic maybe thats why it comes with manual. Optimum match with turbo engine, cvt is sth that we sincerely disregard in Europe :)
Chevy is more expensive, It looks like Billy Bass fish face on the front, doesn't have lane watch, Civic is definitely more aggressive looking like a shark ready to strike. The Chevy has less horse power, less MPG. Chevy has some cool tech and an extra foot I think of cargo space with seats down, all in all I think Honda is a way better by in my humble opinion.
Its just how I look at it. Or maybe one of the fish from SpongeBob Square Pants haha. I def. respect the chevy for what it is. Lots of people think the Civic is ugly as hell. To each our own I guess. Maybe I am just overly excited about getting the new civic. I do think the civic is a tad bit OVER stylized but thats one of the reasons I want to buy it haha.
When you can get the Cruze for $60/month in a 2 year lease when you have an employee discount, it makes perfect sense.
NO ONE pays MSRP for Chevy. The GM supplier and Employee pricing program easily brings it lower than the Civic. Nearly Everyone pays MSRP for Honda. Those are facts.
Don't get too caught up in the MSRP of any Chevy.

Tony Wei I was in a similar boat, except I didn't care for the engine size. I wanted MT, hatch back, and moonroof. Civic only had manual on LX, so I got a '15 Mazda 3i grand touring. The civic hatch def would have been on my shopping list if it was available!
The new civics are ugly
I'm a hatchback LOVER, but the rear end of the Civic hatch, in my opinion, is horrendous. The front 2/3 of the car is beautifully fluid, until you get to the C-Pillar, and from there back, its a muddled mess of lights and spoilers and, worst of all, those giant, fake black "vents" resting under each tail light. Certainly, appearance is completely subjective, but the appearance is horrible enough to turn me off the Civic hatch. Honda hit a home-run with the Civic coupe....a beautiful, unique, and sporty design.

Should have compared he two with the cruze premiere with the larger 18" wheels and the RS body kit.
General Motors auto engine stop at red lights & stop signs is absurd on a small displacement engine. On Star is old technology and I ditched it on my Chevy after the trial, the turn to turn features were not updated as to new data, new roads etc. I like the Honda hatch except for the weird rear end Lamborghini style accent panels above the rear fascia. Honda also needs to put a volume on/off knob on the sound system. The glossy black surface areas of the console/transmission space will be a fingerprint smudge magnet. I'm also wondering how well the information screen will be visible in harsh sunlight on both these cars. All together a good review, thanks Laura!

Sorry Honda, but your gimmicky designs will not hold value. Why did Hondas hold value in the past? Classic designs that never got old. Why do Subaru's hold value today? Classic designs that never get old. The Civic is a gimmick design. I'm already tired of it. Cruze looks classic to me and Chevy quality has become outstanding.

I like all the tech features for the Cruze, but the design of the Civic Hatch is 🔥🔥
Cruze has a mpg 42 highway... however, although you're a civic lover, and if I went import, Civic would be my choice. I am a Chevy lover, and I give mad respect to you because you give genuine reviews and you are honest...❤ you can turn the auto stop off by putting the shifter into (L) mode and press the (+) button until the number display reaches 6th gear. It will drive like an automatic.

Not a fan of hatchbacks where the hatch has such a low slant, it kills storage capacity. Honda can make a great hatchback, I'm not a fan of this design. I would much prefer the HRV, which is a high sitting hatchback. I actually think the Cruze hatchback is impressive by Chevy standards. I assume it was heavily engineered by GM Korea (aka Daewoo), which is probably a good thing given the poor history of small GM cars.
I ask google how to become a Car Dealer the first that came up was SAVE UP A LOT OF MONEY 😂
The Chevy Interior looks too goofy
It's a shame that Honda 5dr hatchback is neglecting it's fans and consumer base; we don't want cvt transmissions and blind sight cameras. So what it's a turbo charged engine, it doesn't have the vtec and lags in between shifts. As far as I know there is no SI hatch coming out only a coupe; really all the enthusiasts are just waiting for the Type R. It's sad because 1990's Hondas were exceptional across the board. I do like the new 5dr sport model but the vehicle has to much technology bogging it down, making it not affordable for Honda youth owners.
Cruze Premium is better.

Just for the Honda I would give the Civic a win. Yes it's radical, but at least it is diffrent. From a distant the Cruze could as well had been a Hyundai I30, a KIA Ceed, a Subaru Impreza... It just aint no special, I looks like a car that has been done now a few times too many!

People have their opinions, So if they say something that you don't agree with. Don't make them a hater. I like the Civic the best anyway. Also the auto stop feature for the Cruze is not necessary because it's a economy car anyway.
Just a suggestion, but I would script these a bit more, you seemed to stumble, recycle, and forget words quite a bit. But all in all, amazing video! I appreciate the depth!

When I heard that Honda was finally making a hatchback civic i was pumped. And then I saw it. its a just a normal car. Its nothing like the hatchbacks.
We are talking about the future civic, not the old civic, I am sure the old civic was one of my favorite with 5 star reliability, anyway it is too early to predict the long-term reliability on this new civic

Honda win hands down, Civic is super contemporary and fresh, the Cruze looks too much like a Kia to my eyes. Not to mention Hondas brilliant reliability.
That's what I thought, if you take a closer look at the Kia Forte 5 2017, the Backend with the Hatchback door is the same on the Cruze, makes me wonder if the whole chassis is not the same ? The front looks like an Old Civic from 2006 though but with a more elegant look I suppose... The Cruze is dead and Chevy should only sell Sports cars.
well to be fair this generation of civics has not been terribly reliable from what ive heard
ironsaber2 The first batch was bad, but I suppose any product in its first release stage has some hiccups, the Civic is no exception, although they make Reliable quality cars, the latest batch has fixed previous issues, now the last issue is the price, the new Civic is WAY MORE expensive than any other car in the same category on the current market, the Mazda3 or the Kia Forte is a better value for the money right now, but lose a lot of points in reliability and resale value. Depends what kind of customer you are I suppose.

Honda did not even make the above average list when it came to initial quality this year because of it. also I agree about price. while the cruze gas a high sticker price you can get it well below that especially when it goes on sale while honda has no wiggle room in prices.
"Brilliant reliability" except for 1) every Honda I've ever owned was trash, aside from my 1970s trail 70 minibike and 2) The Cruze is Consumer Report's choice of reliability, not the Civic. Not to mention that my GM vehicles have surpassed 300,000 miles while my Hondas. Toyotas, and Nissans have never hit the 300,000 mile mark.
Lmao!! "the chevy is a little bit more pricy" no. no it's not... and she mentions that the Civic has a turbo, but fails to mention that only the massively overpriced RS has the turbo, that the RS requires premium fuel, or that the Cruz comes with a turbo at every trim level.

Already got the hatchback Aegean Blue. They said it will take over a month to get one in Lunar Silver so I got the blue. I love it! The one thing I don't like is that since I know it looks sporty from outside, there is this need for speed that has grown in me.

Can tell she didn't really prepare or do nearly enough research on the Cruze, She left a lot of features out, Didn't really explain how things work. All in all, its great that the Civic boasts some extra hp but for me its not all about the power, yes that is a big part of it but if I don't like how the vehicle looks and what tech features it offers, id rather pay an extra $10 a month for the Cruze over the Civic. Plus the Chevrolet Warranty is a lot longer and it offers more things such as the Maintanence Warranty which in Canada is 2 years and 48,000kms of free compact lube oil filter changes, the roadside is 5 years and 160,000kms versus Hondas 3 year 60,000. That's a HUUUGE deal for me! I don't know about you guys.

I wish the review had focused on the most basic version of each car. It's hard to compare two cars when you have a souped up version of one and not of the other. Overall though, loved having the information.
