Mel really is the Bob Ross of terrain building - I could watch his channel for hours, even if I'm not working on a terrain project

i agree, except instead of "happy little accidents" his catchphrase is "Yea?"

I agree, he has a lot of the same teaching traits as bob ross, i was just cracking the joke because bob had "beat the devil out of it" and "they aren't mistakes, just happy little accidents" or some variation as his catchphrases or things he said a ton.

You are the only other crafter that I have seen that uses water to smooth out the filler. I painted walls for years. This is something I learned then. Great job!. I really like watching your builds. Keep them coming :)

Mel, This tutorial along with the D-Day Board series have been particularly motivating. Not that the Battlefield Basics weren't equally so and of course I knew nothing before watching the Back to Basic s & Rock series. Thanks. I'm constructing a large 1\72 scale diorama (no wargaming) with my take of the Atlantic Wall on steroids. Starting at the beach and progressing up through trenches, tank & artillery encasements, bunkers & towers & more bunkers of different sorts all at a modest slope probably 20 degrees tops. I am contemplating putting in a sheet rock face similar but wider than say the one at Point Du Hoc. This would give me the altitude to put in my large naval gun emplacements. I also need altitude for the backside of the mountain. Thank you so much for everything. Regards

At 12:05 when you started to put the grey goop in between the stone and the foam and put the wedge of foam in there in architecture that wedge is technically called a gallet and that technique called galletting. Galletting: The process in which the gallets or small splinters of stone are inserted in the joints of coarse masonry to protect the mortar joints.
They are stuck in while the mortar is wet

Hi!! i thank you for all your awesome ideas and your tutorias because im starting making props for my D&D rol party.
I found that is useful to take the little pieces of durlok and use it to make solid floors like stone, but i dont know how to improve it to look better, the paint to make it look real or at least a little better that pure material.
Im working in a place with a LOT of material being throwing to the trash, and I try to use it for some useful proupose like my sessions or some for my friends.
    Thank you, again!!

  • @austinhall9155

To answer your question, it's a caulking (call-king) gun. Greetings from North Carolina, USA, home to pigs, cows, and men who know how to jury-rig up some crazy contraptions OSHA would throw a fit over with a few strands of duct-tape and not much else.

Yeah, in America, there is a type of sealant used in building called caulk that we use those applicators for. Thus, caulking gun. Don't know if you chaps across the pond call it something else.

I'm very eager to see how you transition from the rock cliff face to the ground/dirt and then grass at the top. I'll be posting my sundial on Terrainiacs shortly and I'd like to know how to avoid the harsh line of stone straight into the grass. If you see it you'll know what I mean.
Oh, its a caulk gun and yeah knapping is the right word for "shaping stone with a sharp blow" per Mr. Webster. Thanx for another great vid! :-)

+TheTerrainTutor Yeah, I tried that but it scuffed up and made the PVA whitish. I was being careful too. But I'm a little ham-fisted sometimes. If you do the wire brush thing on this build maybe you can re-visit that technique? I've watched the tutorial you did on it and it looks like it scuffed a little bit on you too. Maybe it needs going over with a matching green wash? Maybe I used too much PVA? I flocked it twice to get full coverage.

I might consider doing a D day board sometime if it's not too $ on materials alone (funds are pretty tight). I assume said Muslims didn't have guns, etc. otherwise I assume they would be jailed and not the contrary, but indeed, that is iffy, but I have to tell you, the best countries in the world be something like Germany, EU in general, CA, UK, and then USA. (Give or take, from every listing I have ever seen, USA clearly still one of the best places in the world, but not the best whatsoever, this is clear across all fronts.)
