Wow. You are incredible. I live in Broken Arrow, where Kristin is from, and have had the unbelievable pleasure of meeting her. Of course she is an amazing, funny, humble and beautiful woman. It was such a treasure watching this magic you two created together. Thank you for your gift, and for sharing it with the world.
One of the most impressive things about Sarah’s performance is that it’s not just a copy of Idina’s. Sarah makes unique vocal choices and really elevates the song. A true artist.
@@danish2201 I guarantee she's not talking about when she's performed with her actual cast, I think the "duet" part of her favorite duet part refers to this format, since she does this at her concerts frequently. This is the favorite time she's done this.
"That voice is teaching our young people." Doesn't that tell you all you need to know about Kristen Chenoweth? She knows that Ms. Horn not only proved herself to be a wonderful singer, quite worthy of sharing the stage with a Broadway legend, but she also shares her talents with her students.
Not only that, but Sarah's voice is evidence that she must be a fantastic voice teacher. Her volume and high notes seem effortless, her range is awesome, and that floated "because I knew you" at the end is so light, so graceful, it makes me cry. In a set of years where rock and pop legends regularly lose their voices because of misuse, this woman must be teaching kids how NOT to do so. (I love this video so much. Must have watched it 40 or 50 times!)
I've watched this video a few million times -- it will never get old. Did anyone else notice the conductor's reaction when Sarah started singing? He turned to watch! And when Kristen says, "Sing it, sing it," he also nods in agreement. Adorable.
+Christine Chen just rewatched it and watched the conductor! This is always one of my favorite videos because it shows talent really is everywhere, not just in the millions.
Say what you will, Sarah got on stage with a Tony winning incredible voice and she did more than just hold her own, she was Kristin's equal up there. There are not too many voices who could do that. I just love the way their voices blend.
Shelley Holder No way. 99% of people would choke up there in front of thousands in those circumstances. They’d forget words or sing off key. She knocked it out of the park.
She’s a voice teacher. She’s probably sung in front of large audiences before, and his used to singing with other people. The key to singing a good duet is listening to your partner, and she literally does that every day with her students.
Thanks for that edit. I was lucky enough to be in the audience that night and that performance was absolutely electric. The moment Sarah began to sing, the crowd went crazy. I also love how you can see the violinists applauding at the end by shaking their bows. The Hollywood Bowl was a class act and invited Sarah to come back a few weeks later to host an a cappella singing competition and to sing a few songs prior to an ABBA tribute concert. They even put her name on the marquee. For a random pick from the audience, she came prepared and am so glad she was able to shine.
How good is Sarah Horn? Well look at Kristin at 3:40 ... no thought whatsoever left of needing to "babysit" an amateur during this performance, but completely confident to direct her attention fully to her own stage performance. That's instant trust, which even between professionals needs to grow during rehearsals.
I was there!!!!! I'll never forget it! I'm a singer, but I would have not had the poise and presence Sarah had. She just nailed it! Kristen was amazing and so genuine. A highlight , for sure!!!!!
I've watched this over and over, and while Sarah was spectacular and the duet terrific, the thing that impressed me the most was the look of pure joy on Kristen's face during Sarah's solo. What a memorable moment - for BOTH of them!
I agree 100% she looked like she was completely enjoying sharing the stage with such a talented singer as Sarah. I love this video so much. I cry every time I watch it. Completely unrehearsed but you can see how the love for music these two women share brings two strangers together and bonds them to each other if only for a few minutes. It’s truly magical.
Here's what is going through the conductor's head within three notes: "Thank god, I can go with this and do it right and not worry and let go!". Because any of us in the business can tell within three notes whether or not it's for real or scary.
Every once in a while I go on a Chenoweth binge here on youtube. Somehow I missed this one until tonight, and holy wow! So wonderful it makes my cry, just as others have said. Now have to watch it again!
Another detail I just noticed: At about 3:45 at the left of the screen you get a glimpse of a lady that appears to be principal violinist and she is just beaming at the proceedings. This really was a magic few minutes. :)
Sarah was my son’s friend in high school. A lovely, kind girl to him and she deserves the accolades for this and all that she achieves now and forever.😮
I just Love the conductor's reaction when Sara starts to sing, AND, when Kristin says ,"oh sing it", and he shakes his head up and down yes, in concurrence. This whole encounter was magical. Still a treat almost a decade later.
I've watched this video more than just about any other on TH-cam and it NEVER gets old. Every time I watch it, I'm at least as impressed as I was the first time I saw it. Brava, Sarah!
Haha. At 2:22 Kristin looks at the composer like "WTF" and the conductor looks back like "I KNOW!" And then when she says "Oh Sing It" at 2:28 the conductor turns around and nods in agreement
Love this video! I actually met Sarah 2 years ago on New Years Eve at a Kristin Chenoweth concert in Las Vegas. She was so sweet, I recognized her immediately and said hello and told her how great her performance was.
I love watching this video over and over again. It always brings a smile to my face. Kristin's reaction and the conductor's turning around to acknowledge the "magic" that was taking place on the stage was priceless.
I don't know how many times I have watched this. It inspires me every time as though I was seeing it for the first time..... definitely goose bump-pill-ees
After watching this a gazillion times over the years, it rings true on so many levels--the congeniality between Sarah and Kristin, the spirit, the soul, the vocal excellence--and I love watching the conductor too--he's so tuned-in and appreciative as well. He's practically dancing as he conducts...
Sarah, I have watched this a gazillion times and it gives me goosebumps all the time. "Magical" is the most appropriate word to describe this moment. You show us that it only takes one moment--that one great chance for us to break out and shine. :-)
I agree with the author of this video that even though Sarah may not be "THE best voice in the world" she indeed has a great voice in her range of vocals, had a great pitch, but most importantly, had the experience of a lifetime. I´ve always dreamt of having my moment of fame and I´m so glad she did get hers and aced it!
No matter what kind of day I have had, this video completely makes my day better. I HAVE been changed for 'the better'. I have watched this 100 times and will watch it 1000 more.
I think one of the best parts of this is the honesty. True connection. Not to mention the talent. It’s just spontaneous magic. It’s not the “Chenowith channel.” It’s about experience. In the moment. Beautiful.
Every year or so for over a decade I come back to this, and I was just reminded again by the Wicked trailer. Never fails to make me happy and cry at the same time.
What's so nice is how appreciative the orchestra is at the end as well. I've seen a lot of these videos where there's the odd clap here or there but that was genuine delight. Great job!
I come back to watch this from time to time when I need a lift. It always makes me cry through a big goofy smile. Sarah just knocked it out of the park! And because you knew Kristin, your life has been changed for good! Congratulations to Sarah Horn on turning this opportunity into continuing success and God Bless Kristen for giving people a chance to be heard!
I have been going to events for 50 years. I have been to 100 events at the Hollywood Bowl. This is one of the most memorable, endearing moments I've ever seen. It takes a confident, generous person (Kristin) to offer the stage. And a brilliant stroke of luck to match with a talent like Sarah. I'll watch it again.
I come back to this every once in a while, and I am so overjoyed at this young person's dream (of singing with KC) coming true, but more importantly, the beauty of her voice for this very specific duet. The people thinking of casting the film version of Wicked could do no worse having her 'dub' Elpheba's voice- it would be wonderful to actually hear 'Defying Gravity' SUNG, rather than shouted. Brava, KC. BRAVISSIMA, Ms. Horn.
You know that had to be as much of a thrill for Kristin as it was for Sarah. She pulled someone up every night and she had to get some real stinkers from time to time. It had to be a relief to get a real singer up for once.
I was nervous right up until the moment Kristin took my arm. Then all my nerves faded away and I was living a dream!
Sarah Horn That moment when the ORCHESTRA applauds you.🎵🎶🎹🎻👏
I never tire of watching you shine. Love you!
Seriously, this never gets old. I’ve probably watched it 100 times and it’s pure magic each and every time. Bravo!
@@ericholck3914 me too!
Awesome performance!
I'm just a voice teacher from Riverside that Kristin randomly selected to sing with her. :)
Not "just" -- a very talented woman
Sarah Horn , just seeing this video, you made me cry all over again. That’s one of my very favorite songs. I’m in tears. Well done
6 years late but you knocked it out of the park. Wish you the all the best that life has to offer

2024 and I still love watching this!

Me too. I consider it a gift. ❤
A million views, and the magic is still there!
One of the most impressive things about Sarah’s performance is that it’s not just a copy of Idina’s. Sarah makes unique vocal choices and really elevates the song. A true artist.
Because i knew you
Kristen said this was her favorite duet she's ever done
And it should be.
Makes sense. She had a vocal pro with her, she actually got to enjoy the performance instead of worrying about her partner's ability.

When she said, “Holy crap. Harmony,” every soprano understood.
Still the best version of this song after all of these years. Magical.

Christine Chen - You have QUITE THE EYE for the SUBLIME :-) ! Do you happen to know Edmund Burke? What is your Pup's name Christine?
Completely. Wonderful moment -- it's totally a "holy s**t!" reaction from him.
When the conductor turns around and applauded, you nailed it
Ding, ding, ding!

"Holy crap harmony!"
