Good video. I have a 2021 Can Am RT Limited. I agree with everything you say. I went from a 2013 BMW K1600GTL to the Cam Am. Everything on that BMW was intuitive. On the left handlebar there was a wiz wheel that you turned and click. I could do everything with it: Turn on the heated seats, heated hand grips, configure the screen the way I wanted it, e.g., show miles to empty, average gas mileage, air pressure in my tires, etc. everything was on the screen and you never had to look down on the gas tank for anything. Raising and lowering the windscreen was on the left handle bar too. Cruise control was there too, right at the top. You turned it on with your left thumb, set it with your left thumb, reduced speed with your left thumb, increased speed with your left thumb. All very easy.
After almost two years of owning the Can Am I’ve gotten use to the lay out, but not totally if I’ve been off the bike for a couple of weeks because it is not intuitive.
The K1600 was an inline 6 cylinder, rated at 160 hp at the crank. I could easily get 42 plus miles to the gallon just around town, and on interstates with two up, 50 lbs of gear, cruise control set at 75 + mph, I could get 38 mpg. Why the Can Am is a gas hog still mystifies me.
I still like the bike, it’s great for long trips, very stable, great storage, easy to control (you don’t have to worry about low speed handling with a passenger and the bike loaded with gear), though I found the seat uncomfortable after an hour or more of riding and had Corbin put a custom seat on it - problem solved.
Would I buy another one? Yes

I bought a 23 Spyder RT Limited. Coming from the same bike as the previous reply, a 2013 BMW K1600GTL. I like the RTL a lot, but the level of engineering and tech is no where near the level of the K1600 and the two are at a comparable price point.

@@garywhitehead1188 I don’t disagree with you. The reality for me was that it was either buy the Can Am or no longer ride. I loved my K16, but even with the shortcomings of the Can Am, I’m still glad I bought it. Otherwise, my riding days would have come to an end.

My phone mount, mounted on the left side of my handlebars, is a Quad Lock. I love it and shot a whole video on it a few months ago. In the center of my handlebars I have a small ball mount that is attached to the USB/12V charger accessory I bought from SlingMods. I use that back mount for my Garmin Zumo XT, but I only use it when I’m on longer adventures.

Hi Chris. Just a couple of quick points. I think the reason Can-Am's automatically down shift, is to stop people from forgetting to downshift when coming to a stop and stalling the bike, or trying to take off from the lights in second or third gear (just my opinion). Also, the reason Can-Ams don't have a sight glass to read the engine oil level is because they run a dry sump. The engine oil is in a separate container and circulated through the engine when running, then back to the container. Can-Ams can't have a wet sump due to the g-forces when cornering. The oil would all move to one side of the sump and starve the oil pump and the engine. Hope this information helps regarding the sight glass. Take care. Look forward to your next video. 😊

Hi Chris, agree with most of your points here especially the rear tire valve access is atrocious & fuel tank/ oil dipstick etc. There is a tpms system available from the aftermarket guys if you wish to have it. The dash does need some work to make it more user friendly! Plus getting rid of all of the reflectors, except the rear ones & making them lights! But all in all as you said we still love it to pieces! Ride safe regards Stephen Alberta Canada.

The problem with add built in USB is it's a catch 22. For people who want it there just about as many who would hate it because it's a personal thing. Also many don't use USB to charge their phone these days since it's a dead standard. So I think it's a personal preference and the type of phone you are using so just customize your bike the way you want. The one thing canam does right is provide ample amount of power accessory wires to add whatever accessory that connect right to a separate circuit. for example if you have an iPhone/Android and are using quad lock for mounts I would suggestion you get their wireless charging head and wire it into the customer accessory wire, makes for a clean look and solves the charging issue. for people who say they need it for BP connection, don't bother it's trash not worth the hassle anyways. The new 2024 display now has support carplay so no need to connection your iphone via USB anyways.

USB on the dash - kills the waterproof and could short as 9:58 such in the rain. Also it keeps you from playing with the phone while driving which is illegal in many states.
The key - you can drill a hole - there is a video on how or buy as you did a key holder. They designed the key as such to prevent scratches to the key area from other keys on a ring.
The mode button can be hit without out waiting. The purpose of the mode message is a legal disclaimer for other countries. They are NOT going to make a change to the system based upon a single country safety policy.
The dash is used by the snowmobile and the skidoo vehicles. They took a cheaper path which they are attempting to rectify by going to CarPlay on the 24’s
I did a tutorial video on BRP CONNECT it’s the most watched tutorial.
Watch my FOBO 2 video I’m doing for my slingshot tomorrow to learn how valuable that system is and it can be seen on BRP Connect but it would remove the tach.
15 chirps - put the brake on and stop whining.

Received my 23' Spyder RT Limited in SEP of 2023; I now have 14k+ miles on "Freedom". Things that annoy me are: 1) The heated seat is turned on accidently almost EVERY time. Move the heated seat switch next to the heated grip switch; put the spare slot up where the heated seat switch is now. Or, make the switches harder to rock. 2) Top-rear saddle bag lock and alarm. Before I put my extra rack on the saddle bag lid, I would CONSTANTLY get "saddle bag open" alarm. 3) Sway bar needs upgraded IMMEDIATELY. Once I upgraded via an aftermarket sway bar...wow huge difference in handling curves. 4) Can't seem to diagnose or solve the mysterious and popular "Suspension Fault" alarm.

    Good observations.
When it comes to where filling up the tank. I dont understand why they dont take advantage of the area and let one fill like a regular tank, that would offer to get more volume in the tank and help out with the range.
I totally agree, that the km/l or mpg should be way better than what it is. If we compare this to a 1.3 liter car they are way better on fuel than the Spyder, still with 4 tires on the road and worse aerodynamics.
I was wondering if you could do a mpg test where you drive a 45mph road for an extended time from gas station to gas station, because I think you might get much greater mpg because the threshold for when the Spyder start drinking fuel is low.
    Cheers

Thanks Chris for the 1000 mile in depth review. I do think Can Am could improve on certain things like why not have a usb auxillary as standard it's 2024 for god's sake! Also, useless dials on the dash and the position of that filler cap are not too good. The bike does have many good points but a few simple changes would make it a whole lot better. Hi Chris. Looks like we have the same Spyder. I just purchased a 2023 demo model. Flat carbon black. I definitely agree on all these improvement points. It is frustrating to not be able to program all the radio pre- sets. When I was trying to enter the stations of my choice into memory, I wasn’t able to. Instead I hit the “Configuration “ setting thinking that was how to do it, and it instead loaded all 12 pre-sets with every available FM station within range. There are only 3 that I would listen to, but because all the stations were loaded in numerical order, if I wanted to select between my 3 stations, I can’t just easily toggle between the 3, but have to jump lots of the pre-sets to get the station I want to listen to. Not safe while riding. On my Harley Ultra Classic that I just traded for this Spyder, I had my 3 pre-sets, and was able to easily switch between stations with the push of a button.
I have a question for you about your handle bars. They look taller than my stock handle bars. Do you have the “Short Reach” handle bars that come closer to your body so that you don’t have to lean forward or stretch out to steer?
