Allow me to date myself. In the olden days of yore, we didn't turn off/on PCs due to a phenomenon called "chip creep." That phenomenon describes a situation where socked chips (DIP ICs) would gradually extract themselves from their sockets due to the heat-related contraction/expansion effect of powering the machine off and on repeatedly. I am not sure this ever occurred to anyone, anywhere, in real life, but it was something we thought could happen. Yeah. I am old.

Never heard "UPS" pronounced as the word "ups" before. But, hey, it's a thing. [Jeez, I hope it doesn't catch on.] I also hope that we can do better than expect hard drives to last just three to five years, though with helium filled drives, who knows if the outlying "really old but still running" drive will be as common as they used to be. Another very watchable video. Thanks, be well, and may the Fifth be with you as well.

On my submarine everyone called the battery backups UPSs, like opposite of downs. It's funny because all i've ever heard it called outside of the military as well was upps LOL.

I've been a PC tech on and off since 94 and I've seen systems from chain smokers to machine shops, my main advice is clean your system once a year. Since people refuse to take this simple advice, I've made a living all this time.

That's funny, we've been doing it almost the exact same amount of time. I still remember the first tower I did a repair on, an NEC Ready P60M. Still have the same P60 processor with the fpu error in a drawer.
