100% agree. Unfortunately the biggest voices "criticizing" her for this are hypocrites like Rev that are usually part of the "it was just a joke" crowd.
She made a mistake being so hasty and put out a crappy apology that's not really about the orange man she understandably hates since he essetially advocates against her existence as an LGBTQ+ Native American.
But Rev, Klrsche and GRUMMZ of all people coming out saying she should get the "deserved consequences" of her actions would be incredibly funny if it wasn't bleak people can't see the obvious manipulation tactics they use.

Even if we assume that Tricky had no serious intent in her tweet (which is hard for me to believe; the angry emoji, defensive tone and doubling down tell me otherwise and I'm told she's been a vocal supporter of far left causes in the past so its not a leap to imagine she has genuine TDS, I'm pretty sure she also is on record disliking edgy jokes so that makes the whole tweet suspect), I'm not convinced from her apology tweet that she learned the correct lesson. It appears that she's only apologizing because someone got killed while ignoring the severity of an attempted assassination of a presidential candidate during a very tense political season. What she should've said was that wishing death on people even in a joke is no laughing matter. That shouldn't require "educating yourself," that requires having good character to begin with.

This is kind of why I think more vtubers, stremers, celebrities, athletes, etc. should avoid politics. This why it's smart of Hololive or other vtubers to have rules avoiding such topics. To avoid controversies and PR nightmares like this.

    • @AUScorpion

If having a large audience quickly is their dream, yes. The real issue is hiding one's views (even poorly) until suddenly they boil over into some disgusting 'joke' or tirade. Politics should be out front if you know you're likely gonna go there eventually. Large audiences are still possible but gathering one will take longer.

@@GenshinLover283 , I would love to watch and support Kirsche myself, but she or a mod banned me for some reason. So I unfortunately avoid or ignore her content. I would love to watch her content again, but for me, I just can't. Because watching it would make me angry or upset, so I don't anymore. I would love to apologize but I don't have any way to contact her. I used to get mad about it and I still do sometimes, but there's nothing I can do about it, except for maybe make another account or if she unbans me. It just sucks because at least I wish she or the mod would have given me a warning or a timeout, but nope, just a permaban out of nowhere. I got banned around one of her Alan Wake streams. Maybe I will try to ask if I could get unbanned when she does a collab, but I don't think even then you can see messages from people you blocked. To be honest I @ed her name with a joke about her booba or body, something I forgot, which might be the reason why I was banned. Ironically, the way she was banned from Offkai is how I was banned. Got little to no warning, and I don't know why.

23:53 The thing about the tweet is that it feels like it was laced with dishonesty
“I made and impulsive, stupid joke in the heat of the moment and immediately regretted it” Sounds like a lie due to her immediate doubling down and saying the unfollow button is right there unironically.
“I have educated myself now, and I’m incredibly sorry.” This language reeks of a non-apology due to the “educating myself” being used by people who wanted to appear sorry in the past.
“While I am all for a good joke, this was not one of them, and it was highly insensitive” Tricky’s fans I’ve seen are most confused by this because she’s gone on record stating she doesn’t like edgy jokes and even skips them on stream.
“I would never advocate for anyone getting hurt” The whole joke was that someone was frustrated that the shot missed. Most didn’t take that as just a joke so this came off as flatly lying.
“The jk tweet was an attempt to lighten the mood, but it made it seem even more insensitive to a very serious situation.” Her backing down after doubling down initially makes people think she isn’t being honest as her first response to push back is to ask someone to unfollow, and yet now she suddenly has a change of heart knowing that someone other than the Prez nominee go hurt? This makes her look like the only other reason she may be sorry is that people OTHER than the Prez nominee got hurt.
This is just my view of the whole thing though.

how could you say you do no wish harm upon any1, when your intial tweet is exactly that.
same with the `educate yourself` how? you did that in the span of 20 minutes?
About a person getting murdered? no matter if you hate the person being offed, as a `opponent` party. that shit is still vile.
although what destiny did was way worse then this.
i still unfollowed tricky though. she did go mask off with this and i do not support that kinda behavior.

Not an unreasonable take on her at all. She felt safe and cloistered from criticism when she made those initial statements, and when things proved otherwise, she panicked and tried to backpedal.
Now, she gets to reap what she sewed, and despite having enjoyed her content in the past and shrugging my shoulders at her obvious political biases, I do not feel any sympathy for her now that she has bitten off more than she can chew.

I personally don't believe in apologies after getting caught or after getting backlash for your actions, it just feels so disingenuous. You're not sorry for what you did or said, you're sorry you got caught and got in trouble for it and if you HADN'T gotten into trouble you wouldn't have been sorry about what you did or said. This is why I believe that apologies just don't work on their own, it's easy to say "I'm sorry" but it's an entirely different thing to actually mean it. How do you prove you're actually sorry? Through actions not words, since actions speaks louder than words.

True, this is why you never jump head first into a fresh debate. One can have their convictions on how idiots get access to weapons, but that generally doesn't mean they think all weapon owners are clowns. People making comments about political issues is often just a performative action until that window slides really quickly and the person making the comment has to reflect on it. Remember just the other day we were seeing "shoot your shot" used in the context of applying to vshojo.

There's a certain quality to a person when they can think ahead, and think of all perspectives, and understand what they want to say is unacceptable to a large number of people for any number of reasons, and then don't say it. There's a lot of people currently online that have become complacent in the fact that one "side" of the political sphere can get away with saying things that go way beyond the pale. All parts of her response after initial tweet scream of "I'm sorry that not as many people who pay attention to me agree with me".
No apology is going to satisfy everyone. If her first apology was genuine she should have left it at that and demonstrated her regret by changing future behavior. If she wasn't sorry, she should have never apologized. A certain amount of people would respect her sticking to her opinion, even people who disagree with her, and the number of lost followers would've been less than trying to make everyone happy.

Regarding the demonetization of clippers due to 'reused content', I wonder if it's a hard policy with no exceptions, or simply miscommunication due to untrained ESL personnel. For example, if you make clips of your channel content, I assume they stay monetized. If you create a second 'clips' channel under the same youtube account, I assume it also stays monetized. But what about the case when it's two distinct accounts? Surely they must have at least one large organization customer with such an arrangement.
So maybe it's a licensing thing? Maybe all it takes is to appeal the demonetization not with "the company says it's okay to make clips and monetize them", but with a stronger "I have been granted a license by the copyright holder to make and monetize this content".
I'm curious how this will play out. Does youtube want to put an end to farming of reused third party content? Wil it be enough to present a license to retain monetization of clips, or will it require a complete structural shift, as you described? Have they put out any guidelines to clarify how to proceed?

Without context, the "shoot your shot" can mean something else... which isn't quite as bad, but is still pretty sus. But with context, that's a whole 'nother level of gravity to the situation and wholly inappropriate (it's still fairly inappropriate even without context, but now it's straight up taboo with a 'might be straight up breaking a law somewhere' undercurrent)
Vtubers and politics...? That is wholly dependent on their brand. Let them be political if that's what their branding is, but if their thing is to just enjoy whatever it is they are doing and unwind...? They should be allowed to do that and not have to deal with politics as well if they haven't been touching it. Should be fairly straightfoward, no...?
I agree that there should be something for people to allow clippers to not get flagged by TH-cam. If there isn't a system for that, TH-cam needs to implement a system for it. It shouldn't be *too* complicated for there to be additional code to check for whether an account is connected and approved for clipping if it is within the same platform. For places outside the TH-cam platform? That one is more of a pain to work with, but they should at the very least allow that type of integration within TH-cam itself. Otherwise, they are just screaming that they are a platform that is fueled by greed and simply want to find excuses to not pay out to people who make content that others watch
AI issues are a whole 'nother beast. The issue with tracing AI generated art is less of a 'you are not allowed to trace over it' and more of a thing where... the ethics behind how AI generated art originated in the first place with data scraping and completely ignoring proper procedures of getting proper licenses to utilize the works with training AI models. Legally speaking, you can trace over AI works all you want without getting sued for doing so -- you'd only be liable if you misrepresent the work when selling it. But the ethics and message you convey for utilizing AI is a whole 'nother matter that people are allowed to chew you out on. Very big issue in regards to branding and whatnot. Another issue is that AI art isn't necessarily... good... in the first place. They just 'guess' at what 'looks good' and not because it *'knows'* that things are supposed to look or work a certain way, so you'll get things with lighting and shadows that don't line up properly and things that are broken that might not look broken at first glance
Tracing when making art is a touchy subject as well. "Purists" who are... well... delusional... will say all tracing is not allowed (we have evidence of highly praised fine art that was basically traced, historically, so this one is simply idiotic). Tracing other people's works is generally not OK. Tracing photos depends on whether you've gotten permission for using them. Drawing/painting over people's works as 'reference' is practically tracing btw, even if you don't trace over the exact lines everywhere. It basically boils down to "did you get permission or not" from the original artist, and from the client if this is a commission. There are odd exceptions where it is under 'fair use' when tracing another artist's work -- and that is when there is specific reason for the work to be traced or heavily referenced, and said work adds value to our culture - typically memes fall under this with parody, but you'll also notice that most people don't try to profit off of this with memes because doing so runs a risk of crossing over a few lines that make it more likely that you'll get sued anyway
The Genshin "no dark skinned characters" controversy...? It's both old and new. Old as in it's happened before already, new as in it's a new rendition with new content. And I'm going to have to say the same thing as before: This is a game has CHILDREN as part of their target demographics, in CHINA. In Chinese, the word for "Black" + "Person" means something completely different from "Black Person" in English -- in fact, it is straight up offensive to call someone that word in Chinese. If you want to refer to a 'Black person' in Chinese, you call them by their specific ethnicity/place they are from - and that is a combination of words/characters that is taught at higher grade levels. So the irony is... MHY is being considerate in their own way by trying to *NOT* expose children to the specific term until they are old enough to be more mature about the whole thing, and also to try to avoid shenanigans of kids trying to make do with "Black" + "Person" in the meantime while they still haven't learned the appropriate terminology for African, Indian, etc. On the other hand, "White Person" is exactly what it is in Chinese as it is English
You know it's ironic that they say to "do research" when they haven't taken a look at the other side of the story with the dilemma that CN has to face with having an audience that is very young. I've looked up the "age ratings" just now, and Genshin is technically listed at 12+; however, there are quite a few people saying they would let children younger than that play the game (I've seen someone say they let a 5 yr old play it). Different story for H:SR with it also being 12+, but you probably won't be seeing as many people who would willingly let younger children play it
3:14:37 Somewhere around here... "Casting" is probably talking about the people that *choose* who plays the character, not the person who is actually playing the character
3:38:44 Those are slightly unusual terms in the current social media climate, but... they aren't actually *that weird* in regards to what is being requested. Credit on Social Media is optional, but always appreciated when it comes to commissioned works because that is how you advertise to get more clients. Not being allowed to include the work into a portfolio nor being allowed to post it on social media isn't the strangest thing ever, but that would be something I'd charge extra for if it was something that would normally be allowed to be included into a portfolio. Copyright and commercial license are slightly different, but basically ask for similar things -- asking for copyright is unusual, but this is presumably for a Vtuber model[/design]* that they already have and own...? So really it's commercial license to do whatever they need to with the artwork for promotion...? [If this is a fresh design that is being commissioned, then it really is nothing unusual, none at all.]* None of it is particularly strange, but would certainly be looked upon poorly by a lot of artists and can be considered red flags - but they're still nothing that can be called out as being blatantly 'wrong'/taboo to ask for. Biggest issue is getting paid properly and whatnot, really
3:47:40 Thanks. I really needed to hear that. If they are getting scared off by a contract, they aren't ready for professional work. I was talking contracts with some online artist 'friends' on some larger projects, and they were all basically scared off. Yeah, I've decided it's just not worthwhile to try to work with them on anything. They're not ready for any of it, especially when it was coming down to protecting *THEIR OWN* rights to works... which is simply... disappointing?

Sorry for the essay, but I don't really do short responses to serious topics. One of the worst things about Twitter is that its essentially gives a platform to let loose intrusive thoughts without a filter to the entire world. I found out about all of this after she already did the apology, so I was playing catch up.
I don't dont get to watch her live but watch what I can, so I was initially surprised because this is so unlike her. Like many in her apology thread said, without context I could easily have mistaken the original tweet for something about dating frustrations or being rejected for the VShojo auditions and was just poorly timed.
I tend to be pretty forgiving unless the line that was crossed was something truly reprehensible such as comitting SA, and I'm old and experienced enough to be able to look at things from multiple points of view. I understand people being skeptical about how quickly she applogized. It could have been a PR move, but it could equally have been that she legitimately didn't know about the death when she made her intial tweet.
This leads me to my take away. I'll go ahead and self report a bit. I'm an Iraq War veteran, had a rough childhood, and I'm from a military family. I have a very dark and morbid sense of humor that I've developed as a self defense and coping mechanism. If you took my humor seriously you'd think I was BTK and out of context I'd be 100% cancelled on Twitter by both sides every fifth joke. I'm just smart enough to know my audience and keep it to myself otherwise. I'm not making excuses for her here but explaining my logic when I say that we all say and do stupid shit in the heat of the moment that we look back at with regret as we age, and I'm no exception in this regard. I've said and heard worse when I was in the military or hanging out with my veteran or firefighter friends, and I'll leave it at that. Just regarding the Trump attempt, I saw people say worse and receive less flak, some of whom who are bigger names than her. I had a dark humor moment (that I kept to myself) in the same phase as her initial tweet, but that was replaced by sympathy for the victims and their families after I continued reading about it.
My final judgement is that I'll continue watching and supporting her unless this becomes a pattern. There's only a handful of VTubers that I've blacklisted, so to speak, and its taken more than this to do that. I'm the last person who should be condemning her response, and if I don't give forgiveness for my mistakes then why should anyone extend that same courtesy to me? I hope that she learns and grows from this, because its part of life and being human. I know its election year and tensions are high, so maybe this whole thing is a good chance to step back and chill out before things get worse.
Edit: I just remembered something and I'm not sure where to put it, so it's going here. The "unfollow button" is pretty on brand for her, but probably not the right thing to say when tensions are this high or things are this serious. She'll tell you to click off of the stream if you complain about the game that she's playing or tell you to turn the volume down if you complain that it's too loud. I never had a problem with that because it seemed like common sense.

I think Tricky is an idiotic hypocrite who doesn't know when to stfu, but the problem is that people like K*rche are very clearly malicious hypocrites who don't want to stfu so they can spend 90% of their time peddling their politics to a "supposedly" apolitical market in vtubing whilst being allowed the same opportunities and platform as others creators.
I could tolerate them despite disagreeing with their politics whilst it was JUST a difference in opinion (especially since I DO agree on certain things they say about various non-political subjects - though it's debatable how much they even actually mean those things rather than just using them to radicalise more moderate viewers)
but such a blatantly coodinated and hypocritical stance they suddenly take as a group when and idiot like tricky gives them an opening removes any doubt of their motive.

There are jokes about people saying Biden's old, or he pooped himself and there are jokes of Trump being bald, or his hands are too small. Not gonna lie, I'm tired of hearing about this. I may or may not resubscribe to them, depending on if they keep talking about this.

I think that she and others who said and done similar things may have lost some support for this, like in terms of subs or followers but I also think that not everyone who got upset by this, even knew who she or other similar vtubers was, were subbed to her or were followers of her anyway.
