      I was happy they added Herzegovina because historically it's a pretty insane state that played all the religions off one another (till it got conqured).
      But outside of some Core Cost Reduction for minmaxing Bosnia and Herzegovina aren't that interesting to play. I wish there was some weird way of turning Muslim as Bosnia just because the country is majority muslim now

    • @crazehsmile
      @crazehsmile 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      @@Riya-ho5zv well historically Bosnians only converted to Islam because they saw it as a good opportunity to rise through the ranks in the Ottoman Empire. Most Bosnians who converted were members of the Bosnian Church (which was considered heretical by both Orthodox and Catholics), a lot of Orthodox and Catholics remain even today unlike the Bosnian Church (Krstjani).
      I don't think allowing Bosnia to flip to Islam without being a subject of the Ottomans (or another Muslim state) would work, it just doesn't make sense.
      Edit: also Bosnia isn't a majority Muslim country, it's basically 50/50 between Islam and Christianity (Orthodox + Catholic)

      1. One of the reasons Bosnians embraced Islam is due to feeling shunned by Christendom and apparently there were some few similarities between Krstjani and Islam that the Ottomans introduced
      2. The religious map and ethnic map of Bosnia are basically 1:1, almost all Ortho population is being contributed to by Serbs, the Catholic percentage is occupied by Croats, while the Sunni population represents the ethnic Bosniaks

    • @crazehsmile

      @@mr.sellout6284 1. yes as I said they were considered heretical by both Orthodox and Catholics but advancing in the Ottoman system played a major role - see Albania, they were a mix of Orthodox and Catholic before the Ottoman conquest
      2. True but my point still stands, it's half and half between Christianity and Islam, Bosniaks who are Muslim make up half of the country, while Croatians and Serbs who are Christian make up the other half

    • @genuscorvid
      @genuscorvid 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @mr.sellout6284 The differences between the Bosnian Church and normal Catholicism are highly exaggerated, and are likely historical Hungarian propaganda as the Hungarian Kings wanted papal permission to conquer Bosnia.

    I feel like "nobody plays them" as an argument against adding content to new world colonial formables (this is also said about Maghrebi nations) is incredibly weak; The reason noone plays them, is because they have no content.
    Another area that I'd like see updated is mainlain SE Asia, I know they got done in Leviathan but their trees really aren't all that interesting, and there aren't any interesting formables in the area.
    In the same vein, I'd like to see more local formables in India, as a sort of mid-step between forming them, and forming Bharat (or Hindustan). A bit like the German regional tags, except for entire culture groups instead of single cultures. Bharat/Hindustan then, really need some better missions or mechanics, something about unifying such a vast place with so much cultural diversity. India is already quite a fun place to play, but that's because of the dynamic political situation, not because of any mechanics.

      Yeah, India could use more mid-sized formables. It has a bunch of formables already (like Rajputana or Deccan, apart from the ones you already mentioned), but all of them require owning most of the subcontinent and the only differences are primary cultures/religions. I played a coop campaign in India with my brother once (Malwa & Orissa) and there weren't any formables that would allow us to peacefully coexist next to each other 😅

    Cornwall's unique part is that they have a very easy event to become a Pirate Republic. However, all of the coastal Irish minors and Scotland can fairly easily become a Pirate Republic if you know the conditions for it and keep/get rid of the correct provinces for it.
    My favorite campaign I've ever done was a Pirate Republic Great Britain game where I went Munster(Irish) -> Ireland -> England -> Great Britain.

    The Tunis and Morocco missions are powerful purely because you can colonise the connecting provinces to the sub-Sahara for free. If you're playing any of the nations in that region you should absolutely form Morocco/Tunis, before then going in to form Andalusia or Mamluks/Egypt who both have very fleshed out flavour.

    Oh what's that? Austria getting an update? No missions nor formables for balkans
    Italy and Venice getting something? Nothing for balkans
    Hungary getting some fun? Not a drop for balkans
    Ottomans and Byzantium getting LOADS of flavour out of their history defining fight? Balkans left out again
    They are close enough to everyone to be the main pickbone for literally everyone, yet they are far enough to never get noticed...
    Might also note that I really REALLY want artillery focused national ideas for Bosnia lol

  • @SunsetInStone
    @SunsetInStone 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    i think what gets me about this a lot, especially when it comes to the new world, is how fun the ideas are for a lot of the nations! you see texas mentioned a fair bit, but vermont also has some really cool ones! i think my big issue with the region though, which i hope eu5 really expands upon, is the world created by settler-colonialism. some of my favorite history to learn about is from the border regions of the American colonies. seriously, look into many different river pirates and bandits across decades all headquartered up in a place in Illinois called Cave in Rock (and then they had the murder hotel right up the way from there)! something that anbennar does really well w/ a lot of its systems, which I’ve come to love, is making the game world feel alive beyond just borders growing and shrinking and occasional regional mechanics. compare what it’s like to play as an escanni adventurer tag in anbennar and then a colonial nation in eu4 and it’s just worlds apart.
    some other areas that really need the content you didn’t mention IMO are India, which feels like it’s on the cusp of being really awesome to play in but as of now is kinda lackluster. then there’s Southeast Asia which has a lot of similar problems. the Central Asia hordes also don’t have enough going on. oirat and mongolia have a good amount but i wanna play kalmyk or kazan! and then there ming, which just feels mostly the same to me as it did when Mandate of Heaven came out (first dlc i got to experience day 1). their content isn’t really much their content, it’s their mechanic as emperor of china. i wish there was more alt history what if w/ regards to upgrading them a lot. i know emperor of china can provide a ton of buffs if you commit to it, and i do like the mechanic, but i wish there was a way to really, truly solidify the idea of the ming dynasty. a real “celestial empire” tag or something. i would ask for a more dynamic dynastic system but that’s a bit too much to ask from eu4.
    there’s other ones too that could be really cool but just don’t have enough going on but I’ve rambled enough. liked this video, it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot since they hinted at 1.37 being the last dlc.
    one last thing. on the topic of the British isles and lack of content, I’ve always been saddened at how little content there is related to the history of the danelaw and such. would be cool to see that expanded upon in a way which flavors all of the isles somehow.

    There definitely have been a lot of improvements to native american mission trees and I'm a big fan of the Aztec and Inca trees specifically, but I do wish the Iroquois and maybe some other totemist nations would also get some more love. The Iroquois often get to a decent size in the early game and historically were influential in North America at times, claiming hunting rights in lands as far west as the Mississippi at one point and by some records partly inspiring the US Constitution. Their mission tree as is is fine, but since winds of change it really pales in comparison to other new world options.

    The main challenge of giving colonial nations content is the interaction with the Atlantic Slave Trade. It's undoubtedly one of the most important, defining, and horrific parts of this period, but Eu4 was made at a time when it was viewed as better to not talk about these things in depth rather than mess up doing so.
    I've been updating my mod that does try to reflect it better (still not out for 1.37 though) and it does make colonial nations a lot more interesting, but I don't think we'll be seeing these mechanics until Eu5.

    The post-colonial tags are particularly disappointing because of how comparatively EASY mission trees for them are to make. A Thirteen Colonies tree could quite literally just be a "us history but warp speed" mission tree and I genuinely think it would end up being one of the more popular countries to play in the entire game. And it's not like Paradox didn't acknowledge this - the US HAS a DLC mission tree! It just happens to be mostly worthless.
    I'd pay $10 for a mission tree that basically follows US history with 1776 corresponding to whenever the tag is formed (IE you get an event for George Washington) and then have history up to the start of the 20th century in events (for example civil war event line with a MTTH of 80 years after tag formation).
    Could also do a unique government: random candidates, one free re-election, subsequent re-elections very (and increasingly) expensive, maybe +1 to each president mana to make up for the limited re-elections. There's SO much you could do with a USA tag and the game does mostly nothing with it.

The Barbary states raided the town as it was an outpost for English privateers at the time. This occurred in 1631 and afterwards the town was effectively left abandoned for a century. Given that they exerted such influence even in isolated Ireland, I'm surprised that EU4 doesn't at least include tribute/protection money mechanics for Mediterranean states.

    I recently did a multiplayer campaign with friends where I went Brittany into Vermont (was originally going to do Quebec but they didn't change primary culture to Quebecois for some reason). While Vermont isn't anything special, it was really fascinating to learn that they were a real independent nation for 14 years and I wished that gave them at least a few missions based off of that.
    It's so damn disappointing to know that the USA is the only Colonial nation to have missions and that those missions absolutely suck. If we got Austria-Hungary as a formable despite it not existing within EU4's timeframe then I believe we should definitely get missions for the more important colonial countries that did make an impact later down the line. Tags like Mexico, Texas, Brazil, Haiti, Canada and Colombia should all missions. I think Colombia should even get a mission where they nation change into "Gran Colombia" should they unite their colonial region or something.
    If not any of that then at least some form of generic colonial nation mission tree so that at least every colonial nation gets something.

    I mean, as far as the colonial nations, I kinda get it. Colonial nations weren't a thing til the 1600s and we're out here with Mega Brazil at 1525 and alot of their impact came during the industrial revolution. However, we could offset this by giving them a "what if" style tree, in the vein of HOI4. I wrote up an entire DLC worth of USA content but never posted it as a suggestion because it would require a complete rework of how colonies work.
    Tl;dr was that each state corresponded to an area, and each area had a "Charter colony" button. When in range and a free colonist you can click it to slowly colonize the area, and when the area was fully colonized it would turn into a colony equivalent to the original colonies. Some colonies, like Rhode Island or Delaware, are 1-2 provinces. Others like Virginia and Georgia are absolute behemoths. When they're all colonized an HRE-esque 13 colonies interface is unlocked and you gradually progress to independence.

They have a unique government which is in almost every case going to be worse that the government you formed it as, and a fairly extensive mission tree which mostly just boils down to conquer a bunch of stuff for some temporary bonuses. The main focus of this game is not on colonial tags. i mean what did Brazil do before 1821? Brazil is still part of Portugal before the end date same goes to Mexico or other major colonial tags. There's really no justification for getting new content for these.
    As for siberian nations, i mean who plays them? There's already many tags in SEA where most people only play Malacca or Majapahit.. Who is gonna go play some obscure nation like "Indrapura" "Jambi" "Banjar"? Let alone siberian minors?
    As for Celtic nations and barbary nations, i do agree that there are some reworks needed. However, the content needed isn't really worth a DLC. The last DLC already pretty much improved on the "fringe" nations such as Inca/Aztec/Kizn Khafa/Theodoro...

Did not add flavor to the South Indian tags given IRL they resisted Mughal expansion for decades. Only good perma modifiers from the Indian mission trees are perma claims throughout the Indian Subcontinent (Delhi), perma dev cost modifiers for certain provinces (Bengal and Mewar/Rajputana have those missions). Also the generic Bharat/Hindustan mission trees could have used a refresh too

    I feel this is just the basic problem with the whole mission tree style of flavour, if they tied more events to specific combinations and made it easier to see potential events and create some way to have variants of events there would be so much more flavour for everyone. instead of the early made mission trees being too small, and so random nations having massive depth of missions and unique mechanics, while others get nothing.
