Damn that dog had it all, that rush to 1st turn, incredible burst out of the turn and down the backstretch, closing kick when he needed it, and serious will to win. That Derby performance was the best. Pushed wide in the escape turn, got shut off twice up backstretch, had to fight to get around Bjorn first tried rail got pinched then swing wide without any deceleration and won by almost 2 lengths. Showed heart n determination right there in big race with big time competition and less than ideal trip to say the least. What was his career record and winnings?
Just different dogs. Fernando Bale won all his races from the front, this dog had to work to get to the front and use his brain, which yes, maybe made him a smarter dog, but not necessarily faster.
Worth doing the best ever. He’s the only greyhound who has broken track records and won group ones after beginning last. His track sense was unbelievable. It was like he had Damien Oliver riding. He would have given Brett Lee wind burn swinging for home. Absolute tragedy he’s not in hall of fame, because of his trainer.
Awesome dog. My favourite dog was his champion son worthy reward trained by my god father the late tom patterson, i am still searching for worthy rewards races

His style slow out if box usually rush to turn backstretch control etc reminded me of couple dogs I saw 1 at Multnomah in Portland Oregon who in summer of 91 I believe won 22 of 23 starts, MI DESIGNER, and was on 1991 All American team. Other raced mostly at Tampa/St. Pete in Florida but summers at Mile High in Denver when I lived there won too many stakes to name at both 550 and 670 made finals of Race of Champions in 88 and 89 at 670 made All-American team in 88 and 89 and was Rural Rube winner(best sprinter in US) and was Captain of All-American team on 88' , OSHKOSH RACEY but most of all dog that would've been legend on the track , had 7 career starts at Mile High in 96 was 6 for 6 with 3 track records before getting injured and never raced again but was legendary stud dog ...MOLOTOV

By breeding alone the greyhound itself is a faster animal than in times gone by so comparisons are hard.

What'd his trainer do? Doping dogs? That sucks, there must've been a question about something to keep him out
I was the first turn attendant at Wenty the night he ran 29.50. Never seen a dog like him, before or since.
