My arse. ...given a decent bike he would have been world 500 champ again... . Still.....one of the sports complete heroes and a gentleman always gave his supporters time to chat.

I watched Carlquist at Unadilla, NY, riding the 250 Husqvarna at the USGP. I don't recall what year it was, late 70's. He grabbed the holeshot and within half a lap was well ahead of the pack. Suddenly he slowed considerably, one of the Husqvarna's rear shocks had become disconnected and was hanging by one bolt. Carla attempted to persevere, but couldn't. He was very upset, understandably so. He was a World Champion Competitor!
My idol , when i started in the 80s. Had the same Techno Helmet, Clothes and Googles, felt like a Champ with it and drove later the YZ 490. He was a great MX Driver, big Idol for lots of drivers and great Sportsman with Humor. Still sad about his leaving years ago .... :-( Always in best memory till i go the same way ar any time------

RIP Carla.....a legend in the era of iron men of motocross. These guys were the real deal...

I saw him at Belves (France) in 1980 fighting against Jobé and Malherbe. Amazing pilot great champ. Repose en paix Carla.
