  • Hi everyone! In this vlog we 5-speed swap my sister Samantha's 1998 Subaru Impreza L (GC6-8). It took a lot of work to get it done, but we did it in a little less than 2 weeks due to some minor complications along the way. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy it and hope it helps some of you that are wanting to 5-speed swap your subaru impreza 2.5rs wrx or any of that sort. Thanks for watching!
    I also cover some major points to coverting your subaru impreza to manual such as wiring ecu, grounding ecu pin for manual conversion, neutral safety positiom switch, reverse lights, speed sensor, starter mounting points, rear caliper swap for subaru impreza, and single diaphram brake booster upgrades.

    Speaking from experience, there’s a hole on the top of the auto trans to take off the torque converter bolts. A whole lot easier then dropping the whole steering. Great video though!

    I know it's late, but the brake proportioning valve may be different from drums to disc

    You should have upgraded the oil separator plate on the back of the engine to a steel one.

    Helpfull!! I just picked up a 96 impress lx, im looking to manual swap it, would it be same? as mine is pre facelift? Sorry im new to subies lol,

    • @jonahheu
      @jonahheu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nice man! Hope youre enjoying the new subie! And yeah it should be the same. The model in the video is a 1998 but wiring was all pre 1997. So ecu should be the same. Only difference would be what year you get your swap from. If its newer you will have to install a hydro clutch instead of a cable one. Other than that jumping safety switch, reverse lights, and speed sensor should be the same concept. Hopes this helps. Good luck!!

    You need to bleed the brakes properly the lines from a Nissan won't cause an issue until they are bad and expanding or something

    Man I'm having the hardest time figuring out how to connect my VSS on my 99 impreza with a 03 WRX 5 speed transmission. It has the 3 wire green, brown and white wires but I can't figure out what wires it plugs into the TCM.

    im debating on doing this swap for a subaru I came up on since it needs a new engine, transmission, axles, and well basically everything important on it anyway. is the manual transmission lighter than the auto?

    • @jonahheu
      @jonahheu  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its almost the same weight because of the awd system. But it is a little lighter. The swap was definitely worth it. And good luck with your new subie!

  • @illuminatedsoles331
    @illuminatedsoles331 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What was the cost on this?
    If you had the choice to buy a manual with higher mileage or an auto with lower and do the swap again, what would you choose?

    • @jonahheu
      @jonahheu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      it was around 1k, but my sister found a good deal. I would rather get a manual with higher mileage and a low mileage auto if both cars are cosmetic clean. it'll be easier to rebuild an engine than source 5 speed parts since they are getting harder to find. good luck!!

    Thanks for sharing.. so you don't need to drop the engine?

    • @jonahheu
      @jonahheu  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! No you dont have to drop the engine. Just the front subframe and you are good to go.

    • @frenzix
      @frenzix 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonahheu Thought so.. thanks. Some instructions advise to drop the engine, however I couldn't figure out why unless you wanted to swap it out or work on it.
