- Leonardo Vinci's "Vo solcando un mar crudele" is Arbace's aria from the 1st Act of opera "Artaserse", written on libretto by Pietro Antonio Domenico. Here it is being performed by soprano Radoslava Vorgić (Serbia/Germany) and ensemble New Trinity Baroque, directed by Predrag Gosta. This is the recording from the concert performance at the "Operaria" Festival in Novi Sad, presented at the Synagogue in Novi Sad in June of 2019.
LYRICS:
Vo solcando un mar crudele
Senza vele, e senza sarte:
Freme l’onda, il ciel s’imbruna
Cresce il vento, e manca l’arte;
E il voler della fortuna
Son costretto a seguitar.
Infelice! in questo stato
Son da tutti abbandonato:
Meco sola e l’innocenza,
Chi mi porta a naufragar.
ENGLISH TRANSLATION:
I'm drifting down the cruel sea
without a sail and without tailors
the waves are roaring, the sky is darkening
the wind is rising, and I'm out of ability to navigate
and a fate's will
I'm obligated to follow.
Unhappy! In this situation
everybody abandoned me
only with myself and the innocence
that causes my shipwreck.

¡¡¡BRA-VÍ-SI-MO!!!
Greetings from Buenos Aires Argentina. 🇦🇷🇦🇷
THANK YOU!!!!
Bravi! You sound like a quite bigger orchestra! A great performance of this difficult piece, with very nice moments highlited by the soprano's beautiful voice!
Thank you so much 😀
Much more intimate than Franco Fagioli's nuclear rocket performance of the aria (easy to find) but as pleasing to listen to. It is dynamite in its own way. And what a voice! The recording is fantastic. The depth of the basso continuo cuts through the bone. It sounds like an orchestra of 500 people. Sincere congratulations to the audio engineers. In 1725-1730 Pergolesi as a teenager heard Vinci and he wanted to leave school to compose like Vinci. Vinci's music is the Carrara marble from which Pergolesi carved his Michelangelo like compositions. Not many people are aware of this. But Vinci is the first composer in the history of western music to compose in a way that we still perceive as modern today, the so-called dolce stil nuovo, emphasizing the melody and inspired by popular chant. Alessandro Scarlatti just before him in Naples could not quite do it yet. But Vinci has been wiped off the pages of the history of music. His rough contemporary Leonardo Leo was the first to truly master counterpoint at Naples. It is just so strange to state that western music came into its own with Vinci and Leo. But the famous German composer and critic Johann Friedrich Reichardt thought so. Leo Depuydt
I completely agree with you, Leo. Thanks for the musical info, as well!
@@Franco-my23 Dear Franco, Thanks for your support. There is now a Pergolesi Mafia. You are welcome to join (with all the dangers that joining a mafia involves so watch out). And there is now also Pergolesi Manifesto, it should be out for massima distribuzione. on a dedicate website very soon. We need more people like you to change the course of western musical history Leo Depuydt.
A beautiful interpretation! Bravi tutti!
Fantástico, a projeção musical do Barroco autêntico, onde não o equívoco 'sacro versus profano'. Música é simplesmente música, como pessoas saudáveis que tb desconhecem essa conceituação pequeno-burguês a.
Bravo a todos
Bravissima!! Esecuzione di altissima qualità! Bravi tutti!!!!
Interesting that this aria from Artaserse should be performed in a synagogue. Everybody has forgotten about the Persian emperor Artaxerxes. But he was a hero to Judaism. In fact, he is the one who had a hand in the very origin of Judaism by sending Ezra and Nehemiah back to Jerusalem where they organized Judaism as it is still today around 450 BCE (see my book if you can find it). What is before is better called Israelite. Everyone has forgotten, even the Jews themselves I have the impression. Thank you, Artaxerxes, for making Judaism possible. Leo Depuydt
Well noted! BRAVO!
Beautiful💞🧡💙💖
Eine phantastische Barocksängerin!
Die Musiker sind ebenso phantastisch! Echt Barock, alles drinnen, im Gegensatz zum dekadenten Rokoko.
Bravissima. Splendida performance.
Outstanding talent and inspiring performance! Thank you!
Thank you kindly!
Bravissima!!!
Thank you so much!
