Thomas wayne isnt even that bad, yea he does not understand the commonfolk and is pretentious but he was quite tolerant against arthur given that he came to his house and touched his son in a very weird way. Murray although being kinda like the evil-TV guy does have his own understanding of ethics which he shows right before Arthur kills him. Even the clown place guy who fires him isnt all bad. He is a very ignorant person, still shows sympathy towards a mentally ill person he doesnt understand. The woman on the bus that gets angry at first is shown to feel bad about it later.

@Tattle Boad But "our idea" is opinion based, if we critic a movie based on what WE wanted, then it would be satisfying for only us (biased). Now if we critic things within a movie and remove our personal preferences, it would be a more logical and professional way to critic a movie so others can agree with you at certain levels (even if they want to be in denial) , but if you critic the movie based on what you personally wanted... most people won't relate to your review

@Tattle Boad There's a difference between review the movie from a personal bias and a personal preference
For Example: If someone said, Phoenix wasn't like Ledger... I'm disappointed
That would be an irrelevant critic, since they both are the same "character" but not person, and those characters have 2 different stories
Sure you can compare their performances but not fully compare their Jokers ☝🏻
Long story short, to critic the movie you need to critic what you liked and disliked within the movie and not involve an opinion outside the realm of the movie
You could bring it up in Chat, but not as a professional critic

Vgpl0 I understand your point tbf mate. If you’re after a standard old school original comic book villain story then yeah they won’t go down this route. They never really used to use empathy with villains, I’ve noticed it’s a very growing trend.
However, this isn’t ever going to connect to the batman films etc and this is almost just like a separate origin story. Just an idea per say. I think it’s an interesting perspective to give- if you’re into that kind of thing!
He wanted to take a realistic human approach. MOST evil people in the world are evil for a reason. A mixture of personality and usually some type of deep emotional issues. That may bore some people but I do think it’s a unique way to see the joker as a villain. And you have to admit what they do, they do well.
Also towards the end you do start to see this more wreckless evil side of him just not for long enough IMO. That interview where he shoots the guy was a really good scene. But every kill he made in this movie had a motivation. I wanted to see him when he’s at the point of killing people regardless of their innocence. I think the actor did a solid job as well filling this particular role.
I think the point was to bring another dimension to the joker. He’s not just an evil person for the sake of being evil if that makes sense. But your opinion is valid because not everybody wants that.

"We don't take care of the disabled!"
      "Healthcare is bad!"
      "Rich people are bad!"
      "Victims are never responsible!"
Most "evil people" don't go around crying about other people that 'made them this way'.
It doesn't matter how 'evil' or 'reckless' he is, he's incompetent, he's hardly functional, he can't even tell a joke. He's not the Joker, he's Bozo the Clown posing as the Joker.

DC as in, Man of Steel to now? Because I’m just saying this movie doesn’t even touch The Dark Knight. Mainly just because Heath Ledger is just fucking magnificent, all these years later, I still can’t get over his Joker performance. But I mean, who else do we really have to compare to in live action? Jared Leto? Lmfao. Jack Nicholson? Ehh. Cesar Romero? Rest his soul but everything about that series was so goofy lmao. Joaquin Phoenix? Tbh, the guy isn’t even playing the Joker, he’s playing some new original character that writers just wanted to call the Joker. Would say Hamill but he isn’t a live action actor. Heath Ledger is the undisputed king. What does this have anything to do with my reply? Oh, yeah I personally think The Dark Knight is still the best DC movie ever... well, live action anyways.

All the other people that have commented seem to have had all the issues I had with your review so I won't go into it, but you seem to be giving it a lower score just because the movie did exactly what it intended to do and you just wanted a more "falling into acid" Joker. Alex keeps going off about how this Joker isn't a threat when he doesn't even become full on Joker until the end of the movie. Even in the Killing Joke comic Joker doesn't start as a huge threat to Batman at the very beginning of his origin story...

Using that logic, Bruce Wayne is a little boy. Therefore, I can't accept him as the dark, brooding existential threat (to the crime-world).
This acorn is such a small and inconsequential object, that it's virtually impossible to believe that it has the capacity to become an oak tree.
Alex really doesn't understand origin stories, or the evolution, growth and development of a character, does he? What he said (through his objections) says more about *him* than it does about the characters that his ignorance is trying to sideline. He made an utter ass of himself.
They should erase this video and give it a do-over. Not because they didn't validate *my* thoughts (personally): but because their thoughts/objections (mainly Alex's) *aren't valid at all* . His objections were manufactured, reaching and chronically juvenile. This film went right over Alex and OJ's heads. Because they can't comprehend something of immense depth and gravitas----they manufacture objections so as to justify their disregard. This "review" is an embarrassment.
Just because everyone is entitled to *offer* an opinion, doesn't mean that *that* opinion is valid or relevant. Yes, like assholes, everyone has one...and Alex has proven that he's the biggest irrelevant-asshole to review this film yet. This isn't a case of subjectivity-------it's a case of utter stupidity.

While I disagree with 95% of what Alex says in this video.....I see what he's saying here. The past Jokers are psychotic, but also brilliant; they were always one move ahead of the heroes. I think this film nails the Joker's psyche, but there aren't really any moments where this Joker outsmarts the other characters (in the ending he goes from handcuffed to free between scenes without any big explanation).
That being said, showing Joker's brilliance isn't the point of this film. The point of this film is to show how he goes insane; so it's definitely an A film for me.

Someone needs to explain to Alex that in this film this is a joker as a new born. Of course hes not going to be the threat that we see in the comics. At the beginning of the film we see an Arthur Fleck that is heavily medicated who thoughts are all over the place so of course hes not going to come off as some brilliant criminal mastermind. Bruce Wayne is like 8 years old and in the comics becomes the Batman at 25. Thats 17 years the joker has to gain the experience to become that criminal that gives Batman so much trouble.

Kicked him on curve. I am seeing that happen right in the world we live in. He is very much the victim of the movie. Suicide Squad was a hot mess, that is for sure, but at least it is more enjoyable than other DC movies. I can at least watch it and laugh at it's ridiculous series of events and characters. Not like the long, drawn out and dark/grim tone of BvS, the indecisive, aloof destructive Messiah of MoS and the cobbled together "meh" of JL.

What are you talking about, "none of the heroes will ever become aware of this side of the Joker"? He literally came to Bruce fucking Wayne's house as a child. Worlds Greatest Detective wouldn't have to do rocket science to recognize that, hey, this guy has the same facial structure as that dude who came to my house when I was a kid and nearly choked my butler to death.
"Started as a troubled man and ended up too far gone" and became a self-pitying pathetic human being, where is laugh is a 'disorder' and not a part of his character. He doesn't laugh at inappropriate stuff because he finds it actually funny, he does it because he has a 'disorder'.
The Joker wouldn't stoop so low as to dance around in his fucking underwear for no reason, cry about his mommy, or, at the very fucking least, become political.
The Joker isn't some moron that gets played by a cheap talk-show host in a cheaper suit.

    • @UpstageBeast
      @UpstageBeast 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@Nat bro, you're in every comment thread I click on this vid, and your reasoning is always a bit lacking. I'll preface by saying this movie isn't a masterpiece in my eyes, nor do I think it should be compared to Nolan's trilogy.
      .
Have you seen Joker in the comics ? They've complicated things to the point where it's muddled... Joker is drinking from this pool that gives him immortality and let's him regenerate from fatal wounds, his blood is infectious to the point where it makes anyone affected by it only see hate and spite against living things. You want to make a movie on that ?? In 2 hours ??
      .
I will argue that Chris Nolan's batman wasnt even Batman at all.
Why ? Well, Batman in Nolan's movies don't show him as "THE WORLDS GREATEST DETECTIVE", you know... his most famous tagline ?
In the comics, Batman wouldn't have to ask "where are the other drugs going ?", or "where is the triggerrr?".
I mean damn, Batman couldn't even fight properly in Nolan's trilogy... and he's supposed to be adept in an abundance of different martial arts.
      .
None of the film adaptations of ANY comic book character actually represents them in their prime form. They have to make it easily digestible for the general public... and honestly, that's fair enough. It's really hard to make these storylines tangible and relatable when you start adding in Nth metal and all these complex comics lingo that took years to build upon.
      .
Prime example: Mother boxes in Justice League. Most everyone who didn't read comics were just given a bukake of all this exposition just so they can catch up, which is bad story telling in every way.

That was the point, using the name to lure people to watch other type of movie and i for this time am actually glad i was fooled. In the same way I wouldn't call the Orange Clockwork a masterpiece, im still glad when movies take risks and more importantly when they pay off, and in this movie they did pay off. I don't care if this is the joker that clash with Batman with a pletora of whacky gadgets and bad puns, because as a self contained story it delivered, specially in terms of acting performance and cinematography.
