It took 6 months of me sitting down with my guitar for 6 hours a day to get be able to play this song at at least 50% quality. I've been playing this song regularly for about 5 years now and I don't think i'll ever have it down 100%
Agreed :) I quite often think my limited skills can maybe take on a simple sounding tune then realise .... No way. Perfect example Fleetwood Mac's "Never going Back again". Sounds easy but for me was hard
Steve evidently has an exit strategy. That would be playing the guitar like no one else until he dies. Steve, you owe us nothing and you've given us your all. Enjoy the time you have left!!
and I've seen him 5 times :) best was ABWH, when he opened the show by strolling on to the stage with a stool, then sat down and played this, no intro just jumped right in, it was brilliant :)
This song, written for his son right after he was born, always ignites a passion and Joy from Steve whenever he plays it. Must propel him into another time, as most music does for all of us.
What a f$%king amazing talent, I've been listening and going to their shows since the 70s and have NEVER been disappointed. I was fortunate to see them just before Chris passed and he was to the bass what Steve is to guitar. Like Pink Floyd, Yes is one of the premier Prog-Rock bands ever.
He technique is so smooth, and it sounds even better 46 years later after he wrote it. It's mind boggling that he was 68ish at this time, and his fingers move like he's in his 20's. I'm early 60's, I've got carpal tunnel in BOTH hands, and arthritis in my fingers. Even though I could never play like that, there's NO way I could do it now. I'm so happy he's still able to play like this.
@@rbkratz6956 I hope you can too, maybe they'll play here also. Even though Squire & Anderson aren't there it's still great music. Went to see Wakeman do his solo show recently, that was great fun! He's not only a great keyboardist, but hilariously entertaining too.
My thoughts exactly... Pretty incredible that he doesn't cramp up or even hit a single dead or muted note... His hands must be incredibly strong or something? Mind boggling!!!
Say what you will about his appearance, he has lived a Macrobiotic life since the 1970’s from what I know. Clean living has kept his playing and mind sharp. I the world of Rockstars, his talent has outlived lots of other people and there ability to play there instrument. He is a force of nature.
this what art does to you: you look 2000 years old, move like you're frozen but play like you did 2000 years ago and after the show feels like you're just a teenager
Steve Howe is still a great musician. I'm in awe of this flawless performance. He also looks like a Gelfling come to life from the Dark Crystal, not a bad thing at all.
I was late getting in to see Yes at the hammersmith odeon, I was busy copping off with a girl i met at the bus stop. (Ended up getting her pregnant) even though i was late, at least i got the clap!
@@sgtpepper91 ... I saw what you posted... and I agree. He gives Keith Richards a run in that department. I only added his age in case others were interested.
Astral Traveller - me thinks that this happened around the same time Peter Banks passed away; thus a little tribute to P.Banks, there as an intro to 'Clap' - and YOU KNOW STEVE played the whole thing perfectly without any smile whatsoever, probably self consciously ( on account of his teeth, maybe?) I know because I just had my teeth pulled to make way for dentures! And in the time leading up to the surgery I did not smile at people at all if i could help it....it's miserable
yeah I noticed that, interesting technique, I can't recall any other player of note who uses that style to any extent . . . maybe Satriani or Knopfler but they can do anything Unless it's a thumb pick and he is just holding his finger close . . .
Every time I think, "I'm gonna learn this song," I watch Steve play it and go, "Nope."
Believe in yourself!!

HaHaHa! Actually he’s 75…
@@rbkratz6956 April 8 1947 is the birthdate. Not sure of his age in this video but guessing near 70 at that time.

He really has been amazing for 50+ years. So versatile and talented. My favorite guitarist ever.

I came here to write the same thing. You did it one year ago 😂
Enrique Gonzalez , He beat me by two years
For a multi-millionaire star musician you’d think he’d cut his hair, get his teeth fixed and have that nasty wart/mole removed.
Care for a scare? Or perhaps you can stay and catchthe clap! 👹👹👹👹👹
even he won't be able to stand he will be able to play clap without mistake... AMAZING!

So amazing! Now I can’t get Starship Trooper out of my head!
What a fantastic tune. It Just shows you how inventive and creative the man really is. Such an inspiration.

What a living legend!!!! Thank you for all the great music Steve!
Perfect performance. I love this song since my 11 yo.
I've always loved Steve Howe's playing. He's a master.
A true artist and innovator. One of the finest players of his time.

私も64近くですが、もうすぐギター買うので先ずSteve Howeの演奏を終生の手本にしたい💕(15年くらい遠ざかって弾いていなかったからまた新鮮な始まりになるだろう...)
His body may have aged but his beauty inside and talent are still young.
to this day just, FAB FAB FAB, Steve absolutely smashed it again, love this guy :)
I wonder if Steve Howe calls his guitar my precious.
Ein Walroß Which one?
THAT'S NOT NICE !

Looks like the old man can still play! Bless his heart.
truly a master of strings I hope I can still play like that at 90
This man is a legend and insanely under rated player.
Under rated by who?
Steve is roundly recognized as a top rock guitarist, and was voted best throughout the seventies.
Hats off to you Mr Howe, nice demonstration for young génération !
Always a pleasure listening to this track :)
Simply AMAZING!
That composition did put him on the top ,on the map in 1971, the Yes album
My father would never believe me that this was one player.
He's never played it so well. Bravo!
darned good.. I love it
Steve is telling a story! In your own, you can right or write your own lyrics!
I play it myself but if i dont for few months i got to learn some parts again and again ..great work Stevie. keep that in shape
A true legendary. Love u man.
estará muy viejo pero toca con tanta pasión y maestria como un joven , LOADO SEAS STEVE HOWE!!

Never seen a dead guy play so lively
Steve may have somewhat of a 'Grumpy Grandpa' reputation these days - but FFS, that man can still play guitar better than most human beings...
