    Man, this mod... my head hurts just thinking of it. but you struck (black) gold on this one.
    Tips:
    -beeline for petroleum, it's plastick AND power solved, glossy dreckos teke a lot of space and a long time to spool up.
    -build a buffer tank, fill it, deconstruct it, 5 tons of H2O in the ground on a bottle, rinse, repeat.
    -Pacu is broken. very broken. you can have your entire pacu farm on a hole in the ground by your grill, in ONE square. (plus, every being in existence find pacu delicious.)
    -i'm planning om putting the rocket on the left, i can automate the polluted water vent, but the oil well have to be vented, ergo, be acessed. doing it trough an active rocket silo would be... scalding.
    -the Volcanic biome oversteyed its welcome, it has to go. (insert "it's free real state" meme here)
    Loving the series, you got me in to playing this mod again, i'm using your day 0 save, feeling like a genie here.
    Greetings from Brazil, have a nice one.

    You know. Something that occurred to me this time watching through mini base: Klei built an animation for dupes getting entombed in a block that has just been built. You know what that means? They said "hey, so we specifically programmed these things to be stupid enough to build one another's head into a block, so now we need an animation for when that inevitably happens "
    Sometimes it boggles the mind the tiny details put into this game. Of course those details are often insane but, c'est la vie lol

    The oil tech isn't backwards. A lot of the standard maps come with thousands of kilos of free oil under high pressure, you can just pump it right out.
    Wells are not normally required for a lot of the early small scale uses you have for oil so it makes sense to have the more complicated renewable oil option further down the research tree.

    I know this comment is too late but -- leave the water in bottles! Best way to easily store tons of water literally on top of itself. When its needed, just dump it back into the main water tank. Filling, deconstructing, and rebuilding the storage containers over the geyser until you have enough 5 ton bottles of water just sitting there. Setting the bottle emptier to 'sweep only' will help stop bored dupes from emptying bottles back into the tank too soon. Problem of having enough water stored solved!
    Just found your channel. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the play through!

  • @Kr0noZ
    @Kr0noZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On a side note... right at the end I noticed something funny.
    All the magma has turned into some sort of solid rock already, meaning once a chiller is in place there's a lot of space to be freed up down there - and it looks like all of that is metals and diamond as well.

      woah! But where did all that heat go?

  • @Keventor
    @Keventor 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    12:28 for anyone wondering why the heat still moves: when the game calculates the thermal conductivity (TC) between 2 NON insulated tiles it uses the following formula: sqrt(TC_1×TC_2). For those not into math: if either of the 2 tiles has a TC greater than 0 the total TC will be greater than 0 thus allowing heat to move. YES THIS INCLUDES METAL TILES RIDGE! The reason water is so much faster at conducting the heat is due to flashing. When a liquid tile touches a tile that is hotter than it's evaporation point +3C° it will do a state change and steal the heat required. For tiles that have the "insulated" tag tho the game will choose the lowest TC.
    Notes
    1: additional multipliers are added between some tile types.
    2: this only counts for heat movement between 2 different tiles, not tile and any buildings, pipes, etc.
    O and while you're reading this. Meteor impacts have a 1 tile range. That is why you're insulated tiles get damaged. I suggest a extra space between the bunker tiles and insulated tiles. Bonus points if you make it a vacuum.

  • @BouncingTribbles
    @BouncingTribbles ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Abyssalite has a thermal conductivity of 0.000000002. So it has more decimals than the game shows. It's intentional; I figured out why when I was trying to mod it all to be the same temp, I was trying to figure out why the abyssalite wasn't just like neutronium. My brain flash: Abyssalite maintains the biomes it surrounds. It could be a zero transfer element but it actually serves a purpose by having a very low transfer. This is annoying with high temp abyssalite breaks, but it's really helpful in cold biomes. The more effort you take to keep them insulated the more you'll be rewarded because the game is trying to help.

    In super tight, space saving conditions like this play through, I do not even build ladders. The dupes must hop from tile to tile climbing them like stairs, and every single space gets to hold storage bins, decor, items, or whatever and I say you try to remove all ladders and switch to a “tile only” movement system

    I'd really love to know exactly why Abyssalite tiles, and _only_ tiles, transfer heat to liquids and _only_ liquids. That said, it can make for a distressingly long-lasting steam generator setup. Seriously, I had four turbines running at full tilt for hundreds of cycles just removing 400C from a single layer of Abyssalite. (Because it has so much capacity.) And then when those tiles got down to around 120C, I just dug down another layer. Never even got to the magma, just left it lol.

      I like this idea a lot.

    • @Bluelink13
      @Bluelink13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two answers here:
      Abysalite's abysmal thermal capacity means that the heat it transfers is minimal, to the point floating point math may even round it to 0 and just negate it.
      It boils liquids though because of the flaking mechanic. Basically, if one tile's temp is over the phase change point of the material in an adjacent tile, the game will ignore the normal heat transfer math and just dump enough heat to phase change 5kg of the second tile instantly. You mostly see it with liquids simply because compared to solid tiles they boil at much lower temps.

    The little base is coming up really well! You could save a ton of materials by switching insulated gas pipes for normal ones inside the oil refinery area. Since it comes out at roughly the same temp as these places usually stabilize at, there's really no need. And the water pipes leading to the oil well *shouldn't be* insulated at all. I usually even make a small loop around the well to make sure the water drops as much of its chill as it can. This way the system is self-cooling plus you should literally get tons of material back.
    For the most part I don't really use much insulated piping inside a refinery area in general. Unless I'm feeding it 95°C water.

  • @grignaak9292
    @grignaak9292 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    10:40 When the buffer tank is empty then the metal refinery will not get any coolant. IIRC the refinery inputs while it also outputs, but there might be an edge case there. A simple fix is to have the pipe go to the refinery before going to the bridge.

    If you want to disinfect the p water without chlorine you can route it through 4 liquid tanks that start with 0 germs. Because each tank outputs water at average germ count of the tank the 4th(3rd could be enough) tank output will be 0. You will need automation or pipe priority system to make sure the 4 tanks stay full, but otherwise its a set and forget solution that can handle 0-10kg/s. If you want to get rid of all germs leave a spot for toilet, sink and shower water so you dont need two disinfection areas.

    An abyssalite tile will transfer through metal tiles, but it is slower. The more the metal tile is surrounded, the more transfer you get.
    I use this in 2 areas of my current playthrough. In a cold biome, metal tile surround by 3 abyssalite to regulate the temp of a pool of water for base cooling, and a second one next to a hot biome to regulate temperature to pincha pepper plants.

    You know what would help with that water storage dilemma you're having? Just saying, if it wasn't meant to be in the game they would've patched it out a long time ago! :)
    In all seriousness, the buffer tanks would be inherently inefficient in this playthrough, wouldn't they? They take up 6 tiles, but only hold 5 tiles of water. I would think just having a big storage tank would be a better use of tiles (plus would be a giant thermal battery for that corner of the map) since that's probably going to be the limiting resource on this map.

    There are better ways of storing it. What I do is I put two tanks when the first one fills up it trips the signal and that I deconstruct it and just leave the water bottles where they are then rebuild the storage and keep doing that... That is also a very good way to make a clay farm and to oxygenate your base if you just let it vent out the top.

    • @nazgu1
      @nazgu1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agree, this would be the best alternative to infinite storage. With a bit of automation you can have reservoirs notify you when full, allowing deconstruction and reconstruction. If you have dupes do that from 3 tiles above without ladders, they won't be able to pick up the bottles and thus won't make infinite runs to the water dropoff.

    Couldn't you just put all of the sinks in front of your mess hall since they only ever get affected by food poisoning when they eat?

    if you do the math, by putting the buffer tanks in the liquid like he did, your craming 1.8 metric tons per tile or 11 tons per 2x3

    Another thought: maybe install one of the mods that allow adjusting printing pod deliveries? You are supposed to only have 1 dupe offered, but for some reason that doesn't work. It makes things more difficult than it should be on such a small map.

    infinite storage tank for the water and waterfall storage for polluted water ?

  • @AlexKasper
    @AlexKasper 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Honestly, if I were me, I'd have done with an infinite storage system for liquid and gasses.

  • @zecorezecron
    @zecorezecron 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why not make an ininite storage for the water? It uses less space and holds, well, an infinite amount. And it works as a great heat sink.

      It is easy to adjust the size of all asteroid maps in the *.XML files. However, that alone would likely produce unbalanced and /or unlivable combinations. That's why Minibase mod also changes all the biomes in the map (e.g. adding tiles of refined metals or changing geyser types).

    If the buffer tanks only hold 5 tons of fluid yet take up 6 tiles of space and each tile can hold 1 ton of liquid, why use buffer tanks?

    • @EchoRidgeGaming
      @EchoRidgeGaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this case, because you can combine them for 11 tons in 6 tiles.

  • @jesserobertson8397
