    This was a wonderful film, I also loved your layered color images, they remind me of Saul Leiter. Subscribed!

    So inspired by your journey here - to me, street photography is like when you first learn to swim. The panic of holding onto the edge of the pool and not letting go, then the initial moments when free can feel out of control and overwhelming, but then, with confidence, you find you can let it take you wherever you want and the possibilities are endless. Please post more - would love to see where the journey takes you.

    great vid story . i can totally relate as i went out just last week for my first time on street . i used my sigma 105mm 1.4 lens so i could sort of get close without getting close . and after the first few shots it got alot better so im defo going to do more of this subject .

      That is one big and heavy lens to drag along the streets 😊 It produces some serious bokeh though. And like you say; can keep a distance with that focal length.

    Street photography scares the SH*T out of me, mostly being exposed myself, having a person look back at me and say "No, don't do that", or worse. Very nice work Justine :) Your keywords get a little expressive toward the end and I'm here for it.

    Amazing video. I know obviously I'm not the only person that feels this way with everything I do or try to learn, but it's good to see someone breaking out of the curse of Anxiety or even just being shy. I've come a long way. Took my camera out for the first time yesterday. But I really want to learn photography. At least be good enough for me to like the pictures I take.

    • @BadSloucher

      "Be good enough for me to like the pictures I take" - seriously, follow that. They only need to be good enough for you to like.

    A wonderfully emotive and inspiring video - thanks Justine. This will help me immensely on my forthcoming trip to NYC (from Scotland) as I move from landscape photography to street / candid. Best wishes...

      I'm glad! Give yourself an adequate "warm-up period" and you should find yourself in a groove. A bonus tip that I failed to mention is that if you're feeling extra anxious, listening to music might help. Just watch out for cars/cyclists if you're not aware of your surroundings due to earphones!
      PS I love Scotland! Lots of fog and moody landscapes!

    I was just in Atlanta for my b-day a couple of weeks ago and my focus was doing some street photography. The amount of homeless folks downtown turned out to be a major downer! But, I agree with you that it takes a 'special' type of photographer to capture the essence of the street. #nicevideo

    Great video, been doing street photography for a little bit now. The only way to overcome the anxiety is to keep doing it. I also get quite anxious, especially in crowds, haven't overcome it yet but I love using a 35mm prime and I just thug it out to get the shot!

    I live in a town in the North of England; when I retired I set myself a project on a shop- lined street in town but I just got aggression. A guy came out a shop and challenged me ; a guy in shop had a pop at m neither of them had a grasp of what street photography is. I also have an Fuji XT-1 and tried taking shots with the screen down but I just felt creepy which is alien to me. I love the serendipity of street photography. I have wondered though, Justine, surely women photographers are less of a threat or doesn't it work like that? Love your photos. Robin Witting

    • @BadSloucher
      @BadSloucher  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's an interesting thought. I can see how people might think women would have an easier time shooting street photography because they might seem less threatening/creepy. I think it boils down to charisma. If you are a charismatic person (regardless of gender), you can take photos of strangers and have an easy time. But if your body language is antsy and not at ease, that energy definitely transfers over to the subjects and influences how they respond to you.

    Street photography are much easier in the west, people are more chill and slow-paced compare to Asia. I've gone out and trying to shoot on the street, people will get so angry and have an aggressive look towards you, even call the police around the corner.
