2:30 - "Enter Through the Lobby" by Disconscious Don't have one for "THE MAAAAAALLLLL" or the one after it as my chrome extension brings up a false positive
16:33 - "How Will I know" by Sky Sweet / Sunshine Singers off of the "The Soundtrack Highlights from Walking on Sunshine". It's on Spotify and had to use Midomi to track it. Probably the best cover of that Whitney Houston song from what I able to find in my searches. (There's a saxophone playalong on TH-cam that's a close #2 imo.) Also, no prob Dan! Glad I was able to help and contribute to this.
This editing is the equivalent of a hip-hop producer ripping through cases of vinyl in a record store all day but instead it's VHS and Betamax tapes...phenomenal.
I'm a 53 year old man and I don't know why but this site facinates me and usually makes me laugh like hell and also think of how American retail has changed in the last 40 years. Giants like Sears, Wards, JC Penny, K-Mart etc. roamed the Earth. Now extinct or a shadow of themselves.
I'm glad there's a community like this where we can share our fascination with weird retro stuff like this. Hell, I'm only 18 and even though I've only been around during the death of this culture, it still captures a strange feeling of familiarity in me. Thanks for the awesome content!
Same man, 22 here. We still grew up with 80s and 90s stuff in addition to our 2000s nostalgia, so it's like another, more mysterious and magical era. It feels almost ethereal, right?
@dormie basne this has been my same experience as well. I was a mall rat in the early 00s and now the mall I used to hang out at it almost dead, idk how it’s still open. It’s like walking through a ghost town. Sad compared to how bustling it was 15 years ago.
The videos from 2015-16 remind me of studying like crazy during senior year of high school, doing my best to graduate. Vaporwave was huge too. I’d always have your videos in the background and the openers always stuck with me. Thank you providing great content and memories throughout the years :)
I still watch/listen to Dan Bell while I'm working on projects and listen to Vaporwave (and will long after its deemed "uncool" by the kids). Hell, I had that Disconscious track from the Night of the Comet/Philadelphia Mall stuck in my head earlier today and Surfing is on my workout list of songs to listen to as I cool down after workouts...
It's ironic to think how someday vaporwave might be considered an integral part of the 2010s aesthetic. It was never meant to be. It was largely just a nostalgic reflection of the 1980s, just like the 1980s were largely seen as a nostalgic attempt to return to the 1950s. Maybe its not so much a specific decade we try to remember, but a feeling that keeps reappearing through time.
The best opening sequence you've ever made for a Dead Mall video is 2:30 - 3:42. The editing of the movie with the music & the mall footage was superb. It totally encapsulated the 80's & 90's mall feeling.
That amazing mall shopping montage from Night of the Comet played a key part in my young 80's child influence. Also 2 chefs kisses for the genius of this video.
My SO and I would watch these while coming down from acid. We still say "from the MALL!" to each other lol the Dead Mall series is truly one of my favorite things ever. Thank you, Dan!
Others have tried to imitate Dan's style, but they can't come close. He is the real OG and the only one who can deliver this feel and A E S T H E T I C. Dead mall series...forever
I will not lie. I really love when you add the reverb to the old footage to give it that extra thick layer of haunting when switching to what it looks like much later.
I started watching your videos in 2016 as a kid very fascinated by abandoned buildings/urban exploration. As I’ve progressively dug deeper into the histories, I’ve become something more of an activist. Thanks Dan for your incredible artistic contributions to society, and being a vital part in my own personal journey. Much love.
it's been like 5 or 6 years now since i've seen The "The MALLLLLLL" episode and TO THIS DAY I still quote it from time to time. It's so fucking funny to me and seeing it honestly made me so happy and giggle just as much as I did the first time!
I love that you combined all the great 80s footage into one. I am getting ready to go to physical therapy since having back surgery so watching this is a treat. I love this so much, Dan. 😍💕
As a 22 year old, who's mother went to high school in the 90s, I share a very deep and personal connection with the 90s despite never living during that time, I spent the majority of my childhood watching documentaries/footage from/about the 80s-90s and it has always felt like my home. 2000s Nostalgia is fine, but is still missing the magic I crave so dearly
THIS IS AMAZING! The openers are probably my favorite part! If I owned a business with a waiting room I would loop this video on a TV because I'm a weirdo 😀
I don’t comment on vids very often but i had to today. This is hands down the best editing I have ever seen in my life… I’m speechless lol. I’m 50 and this was like going back to something familiar
Been a fan of Dan and this series for years. I saw this and couldn't have clicked fast enough!! Love the way you edit these videos as well Dan. 😀❤️ I would love to see some more dead motels someday. I really liked those too. Regardless you are my favorite TH-camrs. Keep up the great work as you always have. ❤️❤️
Like so many others, I'm such a huge fan of the Dead Mall Series, and often re-watched them over and over and over for years. And loving the intros so much, this is something I have been waiting for, since I can remember. It is going to be a go-to favorite that I will watch repeatedly as well. Thank you so much Dan for putting this together for your fans. It's really amazing, and like others, soon as I saw it (After work) I got a drink and a snack and settled in :)
Very cool! So the style of the younger Silent generation, Woodstock Baby Boomers, the special generation is the second half of the Baby Boomers, and finally older generation X.
Feeling super down and watching this really lifted my spirits. I always wished I was born and living during these times, I really wish we could go back sometimes. I don’t even know where my fascination comes from. Thanks for the nostalgic feeling Dan.
Your intros are the best Dan! I'm from Pittsburgh and ironically enough, I work at the Pittsburgh Mills mall during the fall at ScareHouse. Used to be the old H&M store. I'm so happy you put these all together. I couldn't stop laughing. Blockbuster lady and psychic friends are my favorites! Great video Dan! ❤️
this is amazing Dan and I grew up in the 90s so I recognize so much of these things. I hope you are feeling better. I see your little Poltergeist flesh in the sink thing lol I love you channel
Intros have been one of my favorite things. They just start the journey to the dead malls perfectly. From the music choice to the funny way footage is clipped. They get me every time! When Dan is able to find the actual clips from that particular mall hyping the it it's golden. The dead mall series makes me cherish the dead mall memories I have currently and with one that eventually closed next to my high school.
I've been waiting for you to do a mashup of all the intros!!so excited when I saw this pop up.I love all of them, but I think my favorite is the gallery/night of the comet one...superb job of mixing the scenes and music.
GREAT collage of Dan's abandoned mall intros! The tanning segment IS hilarious, but so were the flies infesting the Psychic Friends Network clips! Nonetheless, the entire video rocks. A lot of quality work went into it, that's obvious...and true for ALL of his videos.
Cool stuff. Real story: One day I searched for your channel to find one specific opener that couldn't forget for over 1 year. Took me 20 Minutes to find it.
Goddd this is amazing. Dan, I love your mall walkthroughs, but the intros show so much talent beyond, well, mall tours and retrospectives. You are an artist.
Great work (again), Dan! My mother was a mall-chaser. When I left my hometown, we had two malls w/their own names, but everyone just called them the old mall & the new mall. No matter how many new stores they'd install, Mom's restless spirit was always on the hunt for bigger, faker, flashier. As a youth, I was always being dragged with to various PA/OH/WV malls, many appearing in your DMS, our 2 local establishments included. My last hometown job was at Sears (in the mall) & my 1st 2 jobs in L.A. were at Eagle Rock Plaza (Glendale Galleria didn't want this recently-transplanted Appalachian punk - my shoulderpads weren't big enough.
Watching all if these brings me back to my middle and high school years. And it's an odd feeling. Though I will say The Gallry malls opener is my favorite
Amazing Dan! This is my favorite one so far! The Manson family Radio Shack and Macy's using the pullout method leaving Dicks behind etc. So much cringe! You outdid yourself on this one! Masterpiece! I really get the sense of the seeds of massive consumerism being sold as success and as normal from this era... Rod Roddy promoting Dionne Warwick's Psychic Friends Network was amazing. lol Too much to love in this one man! Nice work!
Glad to see you posting again Dan! I hope you're feeling better! You're certainly not alone and people like myself have empathy/understanding to how it feels! Great work as always!
Brb, lemme get some acid.. ok back, I'm ready now. Jokes aside, Dan did a great job editing all of these and the dedication to the craft clearly shows.

That's a cool perspective. Peak America (80s-90s) was truly something to behold.

Nobody captures the 90’s like Dan Bell. That was our time now long gone.
Hey Dan just wanted to take the chance to let you know we all love you and love the channel. Its meant so much through the years, you’re the best !

Reminds me of 3rd and 4th year undergrad, watching the series late at night while up to no good in my apartment, memories for a lifetime
I think i discovered vaporwave via this series. But its more Future Funk and Chillwave sub-genres, I think. Or Mallsoft
You did a really good job doing this because it’s dissolved for the future generations to come.

Jesus Dan, you took the nostalgia factor to dangerous levels on this one.
My SO and I would watch these while coming down from acid. We still say "from the MALL!" to each other lol the Dead Mall series is truly one of my favorite things ever. Thank you, Dan!
That is romance at its finest!
This is the best comment I've ever read.
I love the Robert Blake, "We've met before haven't we" edit.
What movie is this from?

The Ames HR video is hysterical. That made my day seeing it again. Gotta remember to watch out for random bodily fluids.
This is so good. I could watch these videos all night. I love the music
THIS is absolutely my favorite aesthetic, god bless
i always love the intros .. theyre like their own little horror series

The title should be “A peek inside Dan Bell’s mind”
🎯
Perfectly captures the magic era of conspicuous consumption with an artful sarcasm.
“You must really just get all kinds of success stories?”
“No I didn’t”
Has me belly laughing every time, the applause just makes it
SWEET!!! I feel like it's been years. Watched all the old ones over the Christmas break! The way you pipe in the muzak is just gold.
You took this one to the table bro.
You know it too:D
You were like, "wait til i drop this next sick edit on my people"
Longtime fan here, thanks Dan! Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
I'm ready to watch all of these over again after this. I love al of em. No one does "dead malls" series like you Dan. I can't even watch others. 💪💖✌
A much simpler time. Thank you Dan for this.
The Marley station mall intro was always my favorite, I was so excited to see it again

I'm glad I'm not the only one. Remember seeing it when it was first released. To this day, I still say, to the maaaallll.
The MALLLLLLL
Man you gotta start doing 80s-source YTPs if you ever run out of malls and dirty rooms, these openings are always incredible
This is the only thing I've ever truly wanted.
Thank you Dan Bell!!
