I may be an exception given that I listen to a fair amount of narrative podcasts and radio shows, but I listened to it for the first time recently and can confirm it does still work today. It’s one of my favourite sketches ever! I have a feeling a lot John Finnemore’s writing will hold up over many generations.
@@ameliaturner7061 I think I mean more that it wouldn't be able to be written today, given all the concerns about transgenderism, etc. I agree that it's still extremely funny!
This has to be one of the funniest sketches EVER. Trouble is, it would probably pass over most peoples heads. I'm afraid I've been dissappointed in John Finnemores' more recent stuff. he's been very quiet this past 18 months - I hope he's OK.
Listened to this so many times and only just spotted her name changing every time someone says it 🤣🤣
Now i feel stupid
Oh my goodness, how have I never noticed that before 🤣🤣
Oh my god 😂
And not once is her name Lucy
My god, I've never noticed that!
how does he manage to hit so many things right on the button with such devastating wit but without causing offence? JF is a national treasure.
"My feelings are so confused and interesting."
Haha
And now it's time to accidentally hear a bit of The Archers.
sadly, don't think this sketch would work today, but it's brilliant.

I see it differently. The target is the Beeb's superficial, clichéd tropes in their radio drama output - and that's still relevant 😊
This is how Chris Chibnall wrote Doctor Who
0:41 Sketch starts here.
Thank you. Lots of filler here.
Just realised, this is called 'Lucy's Complex Dilemma'...and none of the characters are called Lucy, haha!
The main character is apparently called Alison, Sophie, and Helen though. Maybe she's Lucy, too :-D
Wow. This really *is* complex...
+notsyort And Rachel and Susan and Claire.
Omg me 2
Russell T Davies & Steven Moffat warned today about AI writing scripts. Made me think of this.
I laughed so hard, I think I cracked a rib...
Her name keeps changing
Quite Radio 4 centric but very funny.
That is the point of that particular sketch. Its taking the piss out of radio 4 dramas...
Although u could associate it to a lot of British dramas and soaps on tv

He's been writing season 2 of Good Omens! :)
Not as good as the work of BBC Drama bot 5206.
👆 *Shush*
Is that Benedict Cumberbatch, I hear?
Ruby Dunn I think that's Simon Kane you're misidentifying. Benedict Cumberbatch is in Cabin Pressure, though - another of John Finnemore's programmes.
