Super thanks for the tip on using the Lightroom Camera App. Did not even know that it existed!

Would love to download the original, unscaled photo as well for comparison...

Have you compared Gigapixel to the "enlarging" actions in Photoshop Dave?

    Dave,
When you get a chance would you please check to see if the smaller file was saved as an 8 bit jpeg and the larger file saved as a 16 bit jpeg?
Also in your copious free time would you please repeat the test, but save the files as tiff instead of jpeg and then compare the size and quality?
I greatly appreciate the work that you do when assessing software and demonstrating editing techniques.
    Kind regards,
    Bruce

I would like to see if Gigapixel is nicer to circular objects than Photo AI. Also how text is handled. So an image from a city would serve the purpose of comparing better than a nature motive, imo, though I prefere nature in general.

Dave, great video and well timed for me! In a previous conversation, I stated that I am an iPhone only photographer. I too only shoot in RAW. I think you favor the Lightroom Camera for RAW DNG images at 12MP. Here is my question for you. If you take a ProRAW photo at 48MP and utilize one of TK's linear profiles in LR or ACR, does this tone down the algorithm enough? Or do you see better results utilizing a 12MP photo without all of the machine learning algorithm attached. I think I know the answer. Just would love to confirm. I think ProRaw has sharpening and denoise built in which is not necessarily what we want. I just didn't know if the linear profile would tone that all down and we can keep a larger 48MP file. I guess it doesn't matter if we are upscaling. Thanks again!

Thanks Dwight. My iPhone doesn't give me a 48mp file, I believe they are 25mp. I just don't like the way Apple shoots multiple images and combines them into an ProRAW file. They always look crunchy and over processed, in my opinion. Even with a Linear Profile you can't overcome the crunchiness. I have tried to like ProRAW but I am now only using the LR Camera and Adobe RAW and I am happy. Plus with Gigapixel or Photo Ai it's just so easy to upscale my images for prints.

@@thejoyofeditingwithdavekelly Thank you for your feedback. Hopefully with iOS 18 we will have the opportunity to shoot in RAW and not ProRAW. Anyway, thank you for your input as always! I have been using the Lightroom camera a bit. I also really like the camera by Reeflex as I can shoot in RAW. There are also options for light trails and motion blur for my artwork. Be well sir!

Thank you, do you have a link for the LR camera app? I went to the apple app store and search only listed LR/Adobe processing software.

Maybe I am doing something wrong - but in order to download the images Drop Box wants you to sign up and create an account which I have no interest in doing and will therefore have to do without the images. I hate signing up for things and then getting hit with emails etc. from them.

Erik you don't need to sign in. Click the Arrow Pointing down with a line under it. After the dialog to sign in comes up, look to the bottom of the dialog box and you will see (Or continue with download only). Click on that and you will download the image.

Dave, if ever you decide not to be a soothsayer of Photoshop wisdom - you should consider hanging out a shingle as a mind reader!
RIGHT before - you posted the window that said you don't use the iPhone camera app but rather the Lightroom camera and shoot in Adobe RAW I was going to say that I do the same - though I don't use anything related to Apple - am strictly Android or Windows. (Never have liked it when a company deliberately from the ground up designs their products to be incompatible with everyone else in the industry because their goal is keep us trapped in the "eco" aka prison "system".)
But our being simpatico just goes to prove - Great minds think alike - or is it as my sainted British mother-in-law used to say when I would say, Great minds think alike - her rejoinder was, "Yes, Erik, but remember, small minds seldom differ."
