Nice! Good job at showing the driveshaft joint under the car. It's probably wasn't the easiest angle to film without the luxury of a lift.

Thanks! It was certainly a bit of a PIA but it just took some "jack magic".

Thank you for your videos. My daughters classic mini today developed a drive shaft knock and I will investigate tomorrow. Your video gives me an insight in to what goes on under there. Many thanks

U-bolt, Nylon couplings, the ergonomic & less curses way when re-install:
I´ll use a small tongue-and-groove pliers, and squeeze the (sometimes very annoying) "tensed" u-bolt when I want it to fit into the output-flanges.
You can even use the tongue-and-groove pliers, and carefully, press the u-bolt thru the output-flanges!
And NO you dont damage the threads on the u-bolt! I Have done this since the early 90s!

On my car, replacing the bonded rubber joint with the needle roller universal joints resulted in a bit more noise.

What a great shot of how it’s all done, that camera angle is were I needed my head to see what I was doing. How did you see to do it ? 😆 also sometimes those new u bolts don’t actually line up with the holes and need adjusting in the vice ( a nip in or out ) I’d still strongly advise going down the modern pot joint route though.
Another great educational video Cole 👍

Yes sir! 😆 I am very heavily considering doing the modern pot joints when the motor comes out for the 7-port deal. I think I mentioned the adjusting of those u-clamps but maybe I trimmed that bit out when I was editing by mistake...

I was a lucky one - my Clubman had the pot joints. My mate had this style - and boy, were they a pain to get sorted. The CVs seems to last just about forever, so long as the boot doesn't rip - I never needed to change mine, and that's after 5 years of daily driver duty and the occasional rally. And they were old when I got the car. :-)
Btw, I could be mistaken...but if you want to change to the pot joint axles, I'm pretty sure you'll also need to change your differential, as your current setup is for Moulton or Hardy-Spicer joints, but to make the change, your diff needs to be correct for the pots to connect to it. As far as I know, they're not interchangeable without swapping, axles, inner joints and differential as a unit.
