One of the main conflicts in Romeo and Juliet is that they are from two warring families, House of Capulet (Juliet's fam) and House of Montague (Romeo's fam). Those were their family crests that were cut in half. Ravn (Romeo) had to slice his way through that huge obstacle, in order to reach Juliet, the one he loves. What a masterpiece, Oneus.
It also mean that they could never be together, the fact that both of the house will never be merge, even if he tired his best. At the end he will die because of love. This performance is amazing :)

THE LITTLE DETAILS MY GOODNESS... The roses Juliet was holding are different when they first met and when Ravn is about to drink the potion. Red roses symbolizes passionate love, while blue roses symbolizes unrequited and unreachable one. The classic clothe-cutting done by Romeo shows how Montague and Capulet can NEVER be one no matter how hard he tried. ALSO LEE DO AND KEONHEE AS TYBALT AND MERCUTIO BECAUSE THEY BOTH DIED AT THE END??? THAT'S GENIUS. Not to mention, Ravn' rap part. The first one sounds resolute while the second one sounds hopeless and VERY SAD. He wrote it closely based on the actual Romeo and Juliet story too! My personal favorite is "I rather die in hatred than live without your love". That's literally what Romeo said in the actual play!!!!!!!

@Janeen Reid Let's be honest here: every single team just does an AMAZING job. The performances they show on rtk can ALL easily keep up with acts of more popular and bigger groups. Honestly, I'd like to see NCT pull off anything like this. Istg literally ALL of these groups are all so talented and deserve the world and they continue to prove it with every single of their performances on rtk. So I find it ridiculous that there even have to be rankings - every performance is unique as is every group. I admit, at first I was sceptical as to how e.g. a new group like TOO would keep up but LOOK AT THEM NOW!!! They actually keep getting better and better. I just wish that more people would recognize them and their talents and not just pay attention to groups from big companies who don't necessarily make the best music and create the best performances (on rtk you can see what small groups can do, too, if given enough creative freedom and monetary support). Anyways, the freaking eliminations just SHOULD NOT BE THERE and even if Oneus were to get eliminated now (without deserving it actually, but in my opinion none of the other teams deserve elimination either), they managed to show the viewers how AMAZING THEY FREAKING ARE. They should not have any regrets. Like gc, they did well. Eliminations just make this whole thing toxic and start fanwars. Can't you just try to support all groups since all actually need and deserve this chance?

The thing I appreciate about Oneus's performances during RTK is that beyond just embodying a theme or concept, they really make an effort to tell a story. It was most obvious with Warrior's Descendant (e.g., the dangers of perpetuating a vicious cycle of violence) and this one, but even their more conceptual fantasy performances like Lit and Come Back Home had a clear sense of conflict, buildup, and resolution. There are lots of comments already pointing out the references to the real Romeo and Juliet story, but I'll point a couple of them out again. Romeo and Juliet are from rivaling families but are desperately in love. The beginning of this video actually portrays the end of the original play, where Juliet (played by Purple Kiss's Yuki) takes a sleeping potion and pretends to be dead. However, because of several mishaps, Romeo (Ravn) is not informed of this plan, and he actually thinks she is dead. The choreo during the song itself serves as a series of flashback scenes. We see them in the catacombs, represented by the torches. Ravn's rap at 1:57 ("by the window at the same spot") refers to the famous balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet first confess their love to each other. The scene at 2:08 where Leedo and Keonhee fall backwards references the duel between Mercutio and Tybalt that ended in both of them dying. And of course, the cutting of the cloth at 3:26 is a pretty blunt reference to the schism between the Montagues and the Capulets. Ravn's rap at 4:32, right before he drinks the poison to join Juliet in death, is incredibly ironic: "I will never become a fool / sacrificed by fate / even if fate separates us." In the background, we can see Juliet waking up from her sleep, so in the end Romeo literally was the fool sacrificed by fate. On top of the fantastic storytelling, the arrangement itself is god-tier. The violin intro is a reference to the love theme from the film score of Romeo and Juliet (1968). The pizzicato strings at 1:07 are a great touch (but that's just because I'm a sucker for orchestral rearrangements). I'm also simply enamored by literally all of Seoho's parts, ESPECIALLY at 4:16. His vocal color is literally perfect for illustrating the idea of "desperate longing." There's so much replay value to this video, and this performance definitely deserved more recognition. But yeah, I'm writing this comment a year too late because life works like that.

Leedo has been my bias since their debut with Valkyrie! I love the duality of his voice from very deep to sweet singing. I still can't get use to it honestly, like how can he do it.
Also, if you would check their latest comeback in a sing not easily written, leedo who is the main rapper covered parts of their main vocal when he was out due to an injury. Leedo covered some of the high notes!
After years, I just realized that it's a big gamble for them to choose this Romeo and Juliet concept. Of course people know who the flute Romeo and Juliet are, but not a lot of them know the whole story. Having so much detail for this stage (even the roses changed) but during the time, people don't even know what the meaning is, they probably don't even realize that detail. They should choose concept that is more familiar with the audience. It's a shame that this theateric performance was done without many people appreciate it.
honestly this was the best performance i've seen on Road to kingdom so far. I agree ''the boyz'' are insane good, they performed the best, but honestly, oneus were perfect on this cover. The remix is the perfect cover of romeo and juliet and of infinite overall. I'm proud of them. Other performances are too ''strong'' and ''wild'', it feels too overwhelming. ''Be mine'' is so refreshing and catchy it makes me want to come back and listen to it over and over again, i think that's what kpop and music in general has to do.

His raps are really the highlight of this performance, it makes the song more 'theirs' with their interpretation of 'be mine' as the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet, not to mention the sad/ deep meaning and the sorrowful tone that it is presented in. I get goosebumps!
I feel like many people aren't familiar with the story of Romeo & Juliet in Korea. They only know the romantic aspect but not the family feud. But I'm still so proud that they did their research and didn't appropriate the story to solely be a love story.
Yes it's a shame that they don't know the story or cultural aspect of it. But I am so proud of them for making a research too especially on the division of the both families.

As a fan of INFINITE Oneus did a great performance and arrangement of the song plus the concept of William Shakespeare novel; Romeo and Juliet is lit( Which also remind me of Infinite's Last Romeo). Setting the stage once again with a High-Class performance! I thought I wouldn't sneak peak again after Golcha's elimination but this group make me back here again! I hate romeo and Juliet theme with every single atoms of my body however the way oneus interpreted it into their performance is really beautiful. I have to give them a 10/10 for this performance it's so good! The way they added the flag, the theme song in the background intro, the poison, infinite's logo and the way those two boys dropped lmao. I LOVE IT.

Ravn as Romeo cutting through it is a symbolic act of leaving their background behind, of not caring about it, of being sick of it - of everything that holds and pushes him back. It could also be interpreted as "cutting the family ties" for his love which is above meaningless hate.

Ravn honestly has one of the most diverse, unique rapping voices in the entire K-Pop industry. The way he can make his voice sound different based on the context of the song and the choreography is truly incredible - and not just in this song, in every song he and Geonhak (Leedo) write. He can make his voice rustic, harsh, hoarse, grating, soft, smooth, hopeful, in just a few lines. He's one of my favorite rappers because of this. And Seoho is one of my favorite singers ever, because the stableness of his voice (especially when he jumped over that guy while singing a high note!!) and the vibrato, plus his tone and the correct vowels he sings are incredible. This is why Oneus is my ultimate group (with THE BOYZ very close behind). Someone else mentioned this as well, but I love how at the end it was THE BOYZ who were screaming at Ravn not to drink the potion with those proud smiles on their faces - they formed a bond with Oneus that is beautiful and scarce in any industry, and I'm so proud that they got to make that amazing collaboration. Just sad it didn't win, because it was moving and touching. I hope their friendship lasts for decades to come!
While I definitely agree with you on every point you made, I think no one could sing like this while jumping like Seoho did. He has a very stable voice but I mean, come on, he'd have to be a superman to sing the high note. It had to be lip-sync.

whatever the rankings, ONEUS will be remembered for showing their true colors, sending a deep message, and telling stories. there's so much more than just performing for ONEUS, they don't perform to impress other people, no pretenses, just pure genuineness to make people feel what they aim to show: their burning passion to make people happy, to inform people about relevant issues and portray other relatable situations through their music. they don't aim for the "wow factor" alone, they always make sure to leave an impact. i think that's what makes them, them. as a to moon, being proud of them is an understatement ♡
theres just always something unexplainable about ONEUS' performances that always have me at the edge of my seat. from the cutting of the cloth to the poison at the end, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. i'm so proud to see ONEUS incorporate their own colours into their performances and they just never cease to amaze!!! And once again I cant overlook all the beautiful details theyve incorporated into this performance to tell the story of Romeo & Juliet: 0:29 Ravn is representing Romeo's character that is heart stricken, believing that his beloved Juliet is dead (played by 365's Yuki). You can also faintly hear Ravn's distraught breathing/crying sounds as hes getting pulled away 1:57 Juliet is holding onto red roses. Red roses often hold the meaning of passionate, true love and desire (this detail is important for when she holds blue roses later on) The red roses represent Romeo & Juliet's love and desire to be together despite being from opposite wealthy houses that despise each other 1:38 and 4:28 There are rap parts in the original Infinite - Be Mine, but Ravn completley changed up the rhymes and melodies with new lyrics that mention Juliet to fit the new rendition of the song. For any inspirits it's a nice small surprise since it deviates from original song slightly 2:09 Keonhee & Leedo's choreo possibly foreshadows the demise of Romeo & Juliet. Both are yearning to be together, reaching out for each other's love but are unable to because of the conflicting houses' hateful relationship. Both members fall from their stance, signifying the fall Romeo & Juliet (their deaths) 3:02 The backup dancers and members align in this aerial view that strikes a bearing resemblance to Infinite's Over the Top Logo design (Over the top was the album that had Be Mine as the title track). 3:28 the sheets show the two houses the Capulets (Juliet's house) and the Montagues (Romeo's house) being divided by Ravn's scissors. The cut represents the rift/division if the two houses because of their hatred and. This cut/divide is symbolic because the warring feud between the two houses, represents how Romeo (Ravn) and Juliet (365's Yuki) will never be together. Ravn's screams represent Romeo's anguish over viewing the house's hatred as the culprit for instigating Juliet's death and their unattainable love 4:36 just like the story of Romeo & Juliet, Ravn is grieving over Juliets death. He pulls out a vial of poison to end his life and drinks it at her grave to be with her in the afterlife 4:39 Ravn doesnt know however that Juliet faked her death. 4:24 She awakens to find Ravn/Romeo drinking the poison/ending his life. (In the story she drank a drug that put her in a catatonic state, making her seem like she was dead. She wanted to fake her death to run away with Romeo. However Romeo was unaware, since Juliet's letter of her plan never reached him. Romeo is dead and Juliet is now also heart stricken, she takes a dagger with the poison vial liquid and ends her life as well to be with him) 4:40 In the performance, Juliet is now holding blue roses (in the beginning of the performance she was holding red roses) Blue roses often hold the meaning of secret, unattainable love. The blue roses represent Romeo & Juliets realization that their love is truly unattainable. It is impossible for them to fully embrace, love, and be together because of the feuding houses. The story ends in a tragedy, because both realize that their love is impossible. ONEUS performance always shows an educated story, from how bad bullies can be, corrupted of a king, friendship throughout the competition, until romance of two war of kingdom. The classic clothe-cutting done by Romeo shows how Montague and Capulet can NEVER be one no matter how hard he tried. ALSO LEE DO AND KEONHEE AS TYBALT AND MERCUTIO BECAUSE THEY BOTH DIED AT THE END??? THAT'S GENIUS. Not to mention, Ravn' rap part. The first one sounds resolute while the second one sounds hopeless and VERY SAD. He wrote it closely based on the actual Romeo and Juliet story too! My personal favorite is "I rather die in hatred than live without your love". That's literally what Romeo said in the actual play!!!!!!!

@Janeen Reid Let's be honest here: every single team just does an AMAZING job. The performances they show on rtk can ALL easily keep up with acts of more popular and bigger groups. Honestly, I'd like to see NCT pull off anything like this. Istg literally ALL of these groups are all so talented and deserve the world and they continue to prove it with every single of their performances on rtk. So I find it ridiculous that there even have to be rankings - every performance is unique as is every group. I admit, at first I was sceptical as to how e.g. a new group like TOO would keep up but LOOK AT THEM NOW!!! They actually keep getting better and better. I just wish that more people would recognize them and their talents and not just pay attention to groups from big companies who don't necessarily make the best music and create the best performances (on rtk you can see what small groups can do, too, if given enough creative freedom and monetary support).
Anyways, the freaking eliminations just SHOULD NOT BE THERE and even if Oneus were to get eliminated now (without deserving it actually, but in my opinion none of the other teams deserve elimination either), they managed to show the viewers how AMAZING THEY FREAKING ARE. They should not have any regrets. Like gc, they did well. Eliminations just make this whole thing toxic and start fanwars. Can't you just try to support all groups since all actually need and deserve this chance?

The thing I appreciate about Oneus's performances during RTK is that beyond just embodying a theme or concept, they really make an effort to tell a story. It was most obvious with Warrior's Descendant (e.g., the dangers of perpetuating a vicious cycle of violence) and this one, but even their more conceptual fantasy performances like Lit and Come Back Home had a clear sense of conflict, buildup, and resolution. There are lots of comments already pointing out the references to the real Romeo and Juliet story, but I'll point a couple of them out again.
Romeo and Juliet are from rivaling families but are desperately in love. The beginning of this video actually portrays the end of the original play, where Juliet (played by Purple Kiss's Yuki) takes a sleeping potion and pretends to be dead. However, because of several mishaps, Romeo (Ravn) is not informed of this plan, and he actually thinks she is dead.
The choreo during the song itself serves as a series of flashback scenes. We see them in the catacombs, represented by the torches. Ravn's rap at 1:57 ("by the window at the same spot") refers to the famous balcony scene where Romeo and Juliet first confess their love to each other. The scene at 2:08 where Leedo and Keonhee fall backwards references the duel between Mercutio and Tybalt that ended in both of them dying. And of course, the cutting of the cloth at 3:26 is a pretty blunt reference to the schism between the Montagues and the Capulets.
Ravn's rap at 4:32, right before he drinks the poison to join Juliet in death, is incredibly ironic: "I will never become a fool / sacrificed by fate / even if fate separates us." In the background, we can see Juliet waking up from her sleep, so in the end Romeo literally was the fool sacrificed by fate.
On top of the fantastic storytelling, the arrangement itself is god-tier. The violin intro is a reference to the love theme from the film score of Romeo and Juliet (1968). The pizzicato strings at 1:07 are a great touch (but that's just because I'm a sucker for orchestral rearrangements). I'm also simply enamored by literally all of Seoho's parts, ESPECIALLY at 4:16. His vocal color is literally perfect for illustrating the idea of "desperate longing."
There's so much replay value to this video, and this performance definitely deserved more recognition. But yeah, I'm writing this comment a year too late because life works like that.
Thanks for uncovering some of the details, I would've never guessed they were actual references. That makes me appreciate the performance even more.

After years, I just realized that it's a big gamble for them to choose this Romeo and Juliet concept. Of course people know who the flute Romeo and Juliet are, but not a lot of them know the whole story. Having so much detail for this stage (even the roses changed) but during the time, people don't even know what the meaning is, they probably don't even realize that detail. They should choose concept that is more familiar with the audience. It's a shame that this theateric performance was done without many people appreciate it.

honestly this was the best performance i've seen on Road to kingdom so far. I agree ''the boyz'' are insane good, they performed the best, but honestly, oneus were perfect on this cover. The remix is the perfect cover of romeo and juliet and of infinite overall. I'm proud of them. Other performances are too ''strong'' and ''wild'', it feels too overwhelming. ''Be mine'' is so refreshing and catchy it makes me want to come back and listen to it over and over again, i think that's what kpop and music in general has to do.

I feel like many people aren't familiar with the story of Romeo & Juliet in Korea. They only know the romantic aspect but not the family feud. But I'm still so proud that they did their research and didn't appropriate the story to solely be a love story.

I hate romeo and Juliet theme with every single atoms of my body however the way oneus interpreted it into their performance is really beautiful. I have to give them a 10/10 for this performance it's so good! The way they added the flag, the theme song in the background intro, the poison, infinite's logo and the way those two boys dropped lmao. I LOVE IT.

Ravn as Romeo cutting through it is a symbolic act of leaving their background behind, of not caring about it, of being sick of it - of everything that holds and pushes him back. It could also be interpreted as "cutting the family ties" for his love which is above meaningless hate.

Ravn honestly has one of the most diverse, unique rapping voices in the entire K-Pop industry. The way he can make his voice sound different based on the context of the song and the choreography is truly incredible - and not just in this song, in every song he and Geonhak (Leedo) write. He can make his voice rustic, harsh, hoarse, grating, soft, smooth, hopeful, in just a few lines. He's one of my favorite rappers because of this. And Seoho is one of my favorite singers ever, because the stableness of his voice (especially when he jumped over that guy while singing a high note!!) and the vibrato, plus his tone and the correct vowels he sings are incredible. This is why Oneus is my ultimate group (with THE BOYZ very close behind).
Someone else mentioned this as well, but I love how at the end it was THE BOYZ who were screaming at Ravn not to drink the potion with those proud smiles on their faces - they formed a bond with Oneus that is beautiful and scarce in any industry, and I'm so proud that they got to make that amazing collaboration. Just sad it didn't win, because it was moving and touching. I hope their friendship lasts for decades to come!
While I definitely agree with you on every point you made, I think no one could sing like this while jumping like Seoho did. He has a very stable voice but I mean, come on, he'd have to be a superman to sing the high note. It had to be lip-sync.

*Romeo and Juliet* is one concept that is being overly used but *OneUs* did an amazing job on representing a drama piece into a song and dance piece, plus the symbolism is on point, the judges must put them a tad higher this time, if they didnt *MNet* is just pulling random strings right now - they should stop manipulating talent show because audiences nowadays arent that dumb anymore

whatever the rankings, ONEUS will be remembered for showing their true colors, sending a deep message, and telling stories. there's so much more than just performing for ONEUS, they don't perform to impress other people, no pretenses, just pure genuineness to make people feel what they aim to show: their burning passion to make people happy, to inform people about relevant issues and portray other relatable situations through their music. they don't aim for the "wow factor" alone, they always make sure to leave an impact. i think that's what makes them, them. as a to moon, being proud of them is an understatement ♡
theres just always something unexplainable about ONEUS' performances that always have me at the edge of my seat. from the cutting of the cloth to the poison at the end, I thoroughly enjoyed every second of it. i'm so proud to see ONEUS incorporate their own colours into their performances and they just never cease to amaze!!! I really hope to see more deserving results.

This performance may absolutely be one of my favorites from them on this!! And once again I cant overlook all the beautiful details theyve incorporated into this performance to tell the story of Romeo & Juliet:
0:29 Ravn is representing Romeo's character that is heart stricken, believing that his beloved Juliet is dead (played by 365's Yuki). You can also faintly hear Ravn's distraught breathing/crying sounds as hes getting pulled away
1:57 Juliet is holding onto red roses. Red roses often hold the meaning of passionate, true love and desire (this detail is important for when she holds blue roses later on) The red roses represent Romeo & Juliet's love and desire to be together despite being from opposite wealthy houses that despise each other
1:38 and 4:28 There are rap parts in the original Infinite - Be Mine, but Ravn completley changed up the rhymes and melodies with new lyrics that mention Juliet to fit the new rendition of the song. For any inspirits it's a nice small surprise since it deviates from original song slightly
2:09 Keonhee & Leedo's choreo possibly foreshadows the demise of Romeo & Juliet. Both are yearning to be together, reaching out for each other's love but are unable to because of the conflicting houses' hateful relationship. Both members fall from their stance, signifying the fall Romeo & Juliet (their deaths)

4:39 Ravn doesnt know however that Juliet faked her death. 4:24 She awakens to find Ravn/Romeo drinking the poison/ending his life. (In the story she drank a drug that put her in a catatonic state, making her seem like she was dead. She wanted to fake her death to run away with Romeo. However Romeo was unaware, since Juliet's letter of her plan never reached him. Romeo is dead and Juliet is now also heart stricken, she takes a dagger with the poison vial liquid and ends her life as well to be with him)
4:40 In the performance, Juliet is now holding blue roses (in the beginning of the performance she was holding red roses) Blue roses often hold the meaning of secret, unattainable love. The blue roses represent Romeo & Juliets realization that their love is truly unattainable. It is impossible for them to fully embrace, love, and be together because of the feuding houses. The story ends in a tragedy, because both realize that their love is impossible.

The fact is: the original song is so popular and famous that they don't add the Engsub. They just add Engsub for Ravn's part. I love the lyrics much, both original and new one, esp the last rap of Ravn. It touches my deep heart.

ONEUS performance always shows an educated story, from how bad bullies can be, corrupted of a king, friendship throughout the competition, until romance of two war of kingdom.
