COST OF LIVING IN A MEXICAN BEACH TOWN VERSUS CDMX!
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 18 ส.ค. 2024
- The cost of living in Mexico varies SO much. This is just a little peek into my experiences living in a little beach town near Manzanillo versus living in Mexico City. Which do you think has a higher cost of living?

Which do you think is cheaper to live in Mexico, the beach or the city?! I surprised myself by the answer when I first started looking at spending the summer by the coast!
Electricity/air conditioning is probably THE biggest difference when you are at the beach. I don't find any difference between San Miguel and the Nayarit/PV area when it comes to "regular" everyday food. I can usually find cooked carnitas or aranchara in bulk para llevar -- with tortillas and salsa included. Pick up an onion a tomato and an avocado, and you're good to go. Restaurants at the beach are much more expensive than even San Miguel. Being in San Miguel does have a little bit of that Mexico City vibe when it comes to gourmet temptations which ups the food costs. My splurge items are usually really good organic cheeses and yogurt from a local maker, really good chocolate bars -- also local, and really good coffee. If you had been traveling around Mexico 25 years ago when I first visited you would be stuck with Nescafe or nuthin'!
@@susanmoore5885 you are well right coffee has improved a lot. As long that it is an arabica bean coffee versus a robusta bean. It is a big difference. Even if it says blended I don't buy.
what about Safety Laura
Really enjoy hearing about costs of living in various Mexico cities. Keep ‘em coming if you continue traveling around.
Glad you enjoy them, I'll definitely keep doing them!
I wonder if the climate is similar to Louisiana because if it is anywhere near it, there’s no way to live there without air conditioning.
Thank you per always for a great vid, External Expat! 👍
Thank you and thanks for watching and following along!
Is there fiber optic wifi in Manzanillo?
8 minutes to say yes it’s more expensive in the city then the beach town, ☹️
Not sure what vid you were watching. That's exactly what she isn't saying.
I live in La Paz, its not super cheap, but is quite nice. :)
I LOVE La Paz - it's quite expensive compared to even where I am now. If my boyfriend could get a job there I would LOVE to live there. It's really one of my favorite places in Mexico :)
Hi my name is Ann and I'm considering relocating to La Paz or Mulege can I ask you about these two areas to help me decide between the two?
Thank you that was very interesting. PS - I am glad you found a stucco wall to film against (as in CDMX).
haha yea they're easy to come by in Mexico thankfully! Glad you enjoyed the video!
I visit Playa Del Carmen every winter . If and when I move there I will rent a studio for 300 dollars in good neighborhood and have enough solar to run an efficient split system Ac and move or when and if I move. The food and medical is so cheap. The water and beaches are so amazing ! This will give me money to travel other area of Mexico when it’s hot and humid like Mexixo city Oaxaca and Guadalajara and go to Puerto Vallarta New Year’s! Lol
300 us dollars in pdc for a studio?no way
Saludes. I have written a comment on spending time in La Paz B.C.S. next winter but would like to have some info. on the actual cost of living in let's say, Bara De Navidad for a two month stay in an apartment with utilities, food, entertainment, etc. living just above frugality. I'm hoping for less than $ 3,000. Per month. Thanks
Great information
Another interesting subject. Thumbs upa.
I would have liked to see more of the properties that you were speaking about. I wish you did a comparison. What about the beach?
I’m pretty sure California is saying “Hold my beer,” right about now.
Mexico City to expensive
I did a few months in CDMX and loved it, I never made my way to the Pacific coast though. Def on my list.
You were so close to both Oceans the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico by less time driving from LA to Vegas
I am a huge fan of Laura!...
Where will you be going at the end of summer? Back to CDMX?
Very good questions 😅I was hoping things would be a bit clearer at this point with opportunities around the country for both Luke and I. We're waiting it out a tiny bit longer to see before we make any decisions
What's the air quality like in Mexico city...
Is Mexico a safe place to live?
The cost at Manzanillo is the same cost than at the small town you're living now? Because when i was at Manzanillo i had the impression it was a little more expensive at food and some groceries, greetings from Mexico City
I haven't had a chance to check the cost of food in Manzanillo. Hoping to get into the center in a week or so and show you guys what it's like there as well.
@@laura-bronner Oh okay thank you so much
Have you had any problems with smog/air quality in Mexico City?
Depends on the time of year. I struggle with outdoor exercise a bit from late-February to early June, but in the last few years I've been here I've noticed a pretty big improvement in the air quality. It depends where you're coming from I think. I grew up in New York and lived in very polluted South Korea before moving here so I didn't really notice anything other than the altitude at first.
I was curious about SPECIFIC PRICES in terms of the comparisons. So, how much for a 1-bedroom apt in Mexico City vs. how much for a 1-bedroom apt/condo in this beach town that is a 10-minute walk from the beach vs. a 1-bed apt right on or near the beach, etc.
Hi Laura, thanks for this important information. Would you say you have a beach front property your renting? Question why Manzanillo over Puerto Vallarta? I am finding a host of rentals in PV from 9,000 to 16,000, sure no beach front but many have ocean views. My budget is less than 16,000. I understand in PV rentals are much cheaper now since the pandemic. And with a population of almost 2 times more than Manzanillo...
I picked Manzanillo because it's one of the few beach areas that I haven't been to before and wanted to spend some time in a new place. I've been to PV and love it and definitely think if I was looking for a long-term place, I'd probably head to PV. It's bigger, and like you're discovering, still has lots of affordable options. Especially right now, many are willing to rent at a lower rate than usual because they've already lost so much income. I also should have mentioned in the video that we picked a place that had more space than perhaps we usually need because we knew with the pandemic going on that we were going to be spending more time inside than usual.
@@laura-bronner Understand completely, while living in SE Asia I would move around from cities and countries just to experience the different environments and cultures.
As a dog lover, does anyone have any ideas of how I can ease my mind with stray dogs living in Mexico. I lived in Ajijic for a year and a half and ended up leaving and going back to the US because of this. With 2 dogs in tow that we adopted.
Great info! Can’t wait to see a house your 😉🤣
which city are you from?
beach houses in Mexico are like half price of a beach house in the USA, and they are way better constructed. And you only pay about $100 in taxes a year.
I am new to your channel and this just the third video of yours that I've watched. Thank you 🙏 for uploading and allowing me to discover Mexico through your postings. Covid is having a detrimental effect on all of us Laura, hang in there, you'll be fine. Peace 😊🙏 be with you, you are brave and adventurous.
Thank you for your kind comments and for following along with my videos! So glad I can give you a glimpse of life in Mexico :)
So $500 pesos for 2 weeks of utilities in Manzanillos. That’s like $50.00 USD a month. Is that right?
If you're using air conditioning that sounds about right - electricity can really skyrocket in Mexico if you are using it more than just for lights and charging things.
@@laura-bronner . That’s still super cheap, compared to what I pay now in Richmond, VA.
It´s too expensive - don´t come!
I begged a differ. I live on the coast in south Florida. Beach front homes here cost 400,000 plus easily.
yea!!! and you can get a nice house in baja california for 200.000
...............I need to live by the beach.....!!
Thank You for your You Tube Channel, I am a big fan. I am thinking of moving to Mexico City and/or surrounding area. I am researching Art Teacher jobs...do you recommend a School or University? Thanks!
Who's we?
About what I would have expected. I'm planning to move to PV next year, and I was told that 3000USD/mo was enough to live a very comfortable life in PV
Yea that's plenty to live well there!
The solution is stop being poor.
Hi looks beautiful overthere I know this is a weird question to some is their Home Depot or a lowes I'm just wondering pls don't hate me lol for that
There are lots of Home Depots around Mexico. I've never seen a Lowes, but there's also another place called Sodimac that is basically the same and you'll found that around Mexico as well. There's also Costcos, Walmarts and other big shops like that 👍
You think Mexico is expensive USA is way more expensive Try New York Haha
It is similar to Guatemala. If you look for a place with certain requirements, big cities have more options and better prices. How about eating out or delivery there? Just make a call and pick up later? Not having the chance to buy international food is a good way to save money (I hope I can't buy coca cola too 😂) How does it work there? How about the wifi quality? Because using it to upload a video is very different from just surfing the net. Thx
Do you have any idea where you're going next?
Still working on it....
How about providing actual numbers instead of rambling on and on. smh
This was one of your worst videos 😂.. yeah you spent 10 minutes saying something that you could have said in 4 minutes..
Watching you contort your expressions is exhausting. Unsubscribed
