I am also curious if Your Turkish Mauser has a bolt with serial numbers that match those of the receiver. About 40 years ago here in California I was able to purchase a good condition Turkish Mauser similar to Yours but with a 88 commission receiver and Magazine well chambered in 8x57 JS for $35.00. Surplus ammo was also very cheap at $1.50 per 15 round box. The only trouble with most of these old surplus rifles is that they very often will not have matching Bolts and receiver’s which means they can have improper head spacing of the cartridge. Care should also be taken to ensure the proper cartridge is used as the original 8MM Mauser will not chamber in and must not be forced to chamber in a rifle chambered for 8x57 JS. JS stands for Jacketed Spitzer. You may notice that after about ten or fifteen rounds fired in rapid succession that the bolt will become hard to operate due to excessive pressure. If You plan on the rifle being more than just a wall hanger have it checked by a competent gunsmith and use low pressure loads. Head spacing is achieved by threading the barrel in or out of the receiver and checking with Go No Go Gauges. Because of the threading the sights and their bases will need have their alignment reset on the barrel. I am not a Gun Smith but have had experience enough to make these recommendation’s to You. As a fellow firearms enthusiast and collector of shootable military arms I wish for You and other’s to have a safe and enjoyable shooting experience. Please pardon My earlier sarcasm . It is more directed at politician’s than Chap’s like You. I am not minimizing shootings of any kind but take notice of the publicity number and reaction to them vs automobile Fatalities of all causes especially those caused by drunk driver’s . There is a discrimination against firearms owner’s and enthusiasts and a disparity in the measures taken to mitigate criminal abuses .
