    Who's learning the Flaka?

    • @mattyclare

      I'm learning vulcans but this looks doable. I shall give it a try if we ever get any wind again in the uk.

      I tried quite a few in 2008. I had some crazy almost ankle snapper wipe outs and after that I gave it a miss. Keen to get back into it. I've given the vulcan a good couple of attempts but never landed one 🤣 I guess I don't try often enough and find myself mostly wave sailing. But skills I want to learn. About to watch your vulcan video you posted 2 years ago.

    Something I learned early on, skateboarding in youth helped.
    I can do most tricks goofy stance but not regular.
    Things trick is so funnier to do, 180 jumps amd powering put are fun also.
    I've doomed a few fins doing said trick thou.

    Nice video! I’m trying to land my first flaka after spending the last weeks getting clean upwind 360s and heli tacks. The body posture tip is really helpful as I noticed I am leaning too far backwards and can’t get the board out of the water. How long did it take you to go from clean upwind 360 to flaka?

    • @willnicholls5
      @willnicholls5  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It t was about 6 months after being able to consistently do upwind 360. The learning process became much quicker when I spent 4 months in Dahab.

      I noticed your mast is straight when you do the wind up with the weight on your front foot just before the jump. Is your sail already depowered at that moment or only when you throw the sail? I find it difficult to get the mast in this straight position maybe depowering a second earlier is the key?

    • @willnicholls5
      @willnicholls5  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlorianGamp At that point there is still power in the sail. The sail only gets de-powered when I throw it. (0:07) The angle of the mast might not be clear from that particular camera angle but during the wind up the mast isn’t exactly straight it’s actually leaning over slightly (downwind). Kind of similar to the start of a carve gybe. Hope that answered your Q, let me know if it was unclear.

    • @FlorianGamp
      @FlorianGamp ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok thanks! I will keep practicing and try to initiate the move more carve gybe like

    So far i can make the board only turn 180 degree.. i can’t make it turning on the nose, the board hits the water flat and turns on the fin.. what’s wrong?

    • @willnicholls5
      @willnicholls5  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What happens after you get to 180 degrees? It sounds like you have too much weight on your back foot and the fin. Instead try to keep your weight over your front leg and over the mast base. This will keep the tail and the fin out the water and will allow you to keep sliding and rotate the final 180.

      @@willnicholls5 The pop go nicely as i throw the sail into the apparent wind but i can't have the board turning at all into the air and the board hits the water flat (not on the nose) and start turning updwind. After the 180° the sail falls flat in the water and my body is still above the board. I will try to force my weight more to the front during the pop.
