I really hope that someday we can get interviews from the guys that worked in the japanese fernandez shop or someone that was involved with the design team its a masssively important point in the design history of guitar and we only have bits of folklore to go on; floyd was a lapidary, EVH used the prototype, there are a litany of imposters and early versions that make correctly Identifying vintage bridges near impossible except for mythical stamping of 'west germany'. I really hope someone does a longform doc on this someday there really seems like alot of untold history.

Something I forgot to clarify is that Fernandes must have acquired one of Floyd's garage-made USA FRT-1s to clone sometime in 1980. They cloned it, showed it to him at the 1981 winter NAMM show, impressed him, and a contact was signed (according to the former Fernandes employee, whose memory is hazy from those years).
Check out the FRT-1,2,3,4,5 and Post Fernandes contract page on vintagefloydrose.com to get ALL the details.

The Ping made Floyds came much later, and they also made the Floyd Rose Speedloaders. I'll talk about them when I do a licensed Floyd video.

FRT is short for "Floyd Rose Tremolo" and is a Japanese designation term identifying the progression of early Floyd models when Mr. Rose was contracted with Fernandes. Vintage Floyd collectors use these terms to describe what model and variants they are discussing. When Kramer brought Mr. Rose on, they just called it the "original" (but it was technically a variant of the FRT-5). The German "original" Floyds seen on Kramer guitars of that era are the design most people are familiar with because it hasn't changed in almost 40 years. The Japanese history is very strange, however. Check out vintagefloydrose.com which explains this in extreme detail.
