Stan Headley's version (T & S Nov. 2018) prescribes palmered claret and black hackles. I have nothing against variants, which are essential to pattern development, but I should really like to know whether you find the magenta version is a better taker of fish in certain conditions and, if so, which, please? I should also say that I admire your method of creating a muddler head - simple and stylish!
yes a variant but I chose a badger magenta as it has both black and magenta portions to the hackle these flies were requested off me and the guy had 3 salmon and 2seatrout on them in south uist so the fish mustn't mind
