Man, the movie started out to actually feel like what I thought might be my number one pick for the year, but it did not finish that way. It's not a bad movie. It just sort of felt like it started out like "Blair Witch" and ended up like "Hellboy."

I appreciate your review. Was debating whether this was going to be a theatre watch or wait to stream. Looks like I'll be streaming! Looking forward to M Night's movie in August.
I just got back from seeing this movie. I had your video queued up to watch when I returned. My experience of the movie was that for the first two thirds of the film, it had a very M. Night feel to it. It did lean towards fantasy more than horror, but I like that. I am a fan of both horror and fantasy based films. For me, the movie actually got better as it approached the end. More information was revealed that started to answer questions I had. And I like how the story was wrapped up. It still left enough of a story that I could see how it would continue after the movie ended. It's hard to be more specific without giving things away. I would recommend people see it for themselves. As far as CGI goes, I can tell you as a visual effects artist on 40 feature films that you cannot get away from CGI if you want to create a creature that doesn't look like a guy in a suit. If you went more with practical effects, then you'd end up making the creatures out of puppetry controls or a man in suit. To be honest it's not realistic to expect practical effects when what you're trying to do is make a character that is dramatically different than a human being. You're going to resort to CGI. It's that simple.
Okay, saw the movie today and (ducks) I loved it. Y'all are right, it starts out like a horror movie and changes to fantasy for the ending, but I have to admit, that's why I enjoyed it. I am a die-hard folk/fairy tale person who has read the censored and uncensored stories. No spoilers from me but when they suggested A, nope. Then they suggested B, could be. Finally suggested C, yes but could also be B, you can't be B without being C as well. Yes, my Sister and Nephew looked at me in the theater during the credits. Asked me if I knew what they were talking about and when I said "yes" the rolled their eyes at me.🙄
I agree 100% on the effects…think back to two of my favorite werewolf movies…The Howling and American Werewolf in London..or even the original Alien movies..practical effects (even if used sparingly) make the movie vastly more realistic and keep you “ In the movie”. Thanks K for the review!
I’m interested to see this, as I read the book a few months back. A.M. Shine’s second book Creeper, would also make a great movie, with an even better twist. But, that’s just my opinion.
I will have to watch it!!!! By the way is there any way you can talk about the old movie, “the Fearless Vampire Killers” i think is a late 60s movie but i have been wanted to see you n hear your opinions abbout this one!!!!! Thank you soooo much!!!!!!
(40) Well, at least it didn't bark. Hopefully her offerings will improve. I think I know where you are in relation to the end of the film; maybe she went for that "fantastical" ending so as not to freak people out TOO much with a debut. From how you described the film, the vision is clearly there, just seems the conclusion seemed to be elusive.
It’s one of those movies that if you go see all horror in theaters like me it’s worth going to, but if you go once in a while just for the best stuff definitely wait
Ohhhh THANK YOU!!..again! I was WAITING until you dropped a review on it, to determine if I was gonna go see it. Man....the cast, I mean...maybe I was itching for this to be BETTER, and I know the cast is a HUGE part of it. But no matter how incredible the cast is, if the story isn't there, isn't done right, that kinda kills it.
I'll be honest, I'll be seeing it for the bird. I'll watch it at home though, so my birds can watch it with me. (Side note, if you ever want a true horror experience, watch Hitchcock's The Birds with actual birds around you. Seriously, it's super scary.)

I have read the book which was very good. Sad to hear the movie probably doesn't live up to the book. And yes, the book does have a "twist". Having not seen the movie I don't know, but the "twist" being revealed in a Shyamalan manor... probably doesn't work. But there's a couple of twists in the book so... I'll have to check it out

Agree on many aspects……less cgi would have been appreciated -overall not a horrible movie -many positive atmospheric and moody imagery-agreed it fell a little flat
Soon as you mentioned CGI, that put me off straight away, you think that now in 2024, the use of practical effects would be used more, and they should be able to make them super real looking, there's a film called Seed, where the use CGI heavily, and that put me off straight away
