my suggestion for this machine would be:
    -get a new case
    -get an SSD
-use the HD for Storage Space
-repurpose it as a Linux PC with either Pop Os, Linux Mint, Zorin OS or Endevaour OS
-if you want to make it a retro gaming pc, use Batocera or a Linux Distro specifically designed for Retro Gaming.
    -NAS/Home Server/Media Server

Linux?! Nah bro get a fresh copy of Windows 8 or Windows 10.
the ISO file of Win8 is still aviable and could be a good deal if you find an Old PC with an old CPU like The Intel Celeron N2840 or the Intel i5-2500, with no OS in the Disk, and Upgrade to an SSD.
Windows 10? I recommend having a CPU like the Intel i5-7500 7th Gen or even 6th Gen i5 or i3, and an older version of Win10 like 1507 build or 2004 build, also Upgrade to an SSD.

What I usually do is check the motherboard specs an d find out the best CPU and RAM it will accept and try to find cheap used versions of them to max out the motherboard. Replace the hard drive with a good used Samsung EVO SSD and then check the performance. IF good get the cheapest case you can find on Newegg and put iit together. At this point figure out what you want to do with it ( home theater pc, NAS, internet box, light gaming rig, etc.) and think about what video card you can use.. Depending on that choice you may need to upgrade the PSU. I'm assuming windows 10 as the OS but check to see if it will accept windows 11. If so this could be quite a useful machine.

Well with what you've got there, ideas are:
    1. Linux becomes a good option and opens the door for things like a small NAS (storage space wise), but some small editions like a SATA3 expansion card can add more drives to the count. A true RAID card would be more money, but I know a number of things like UnRAID try to use existing hardware and SATA adapter cards rather than a true RAID card (there are exceptions).
    2. Linux allowing for emulating Windows XP or Windows 7 (via free VMWare Workstation Pro for personal use) can open gaming options for the retro side of things. 3. I think BlueStacks has a Linux version, so you could run that as something to play various mobile games.
    4. If you do want to run Windows 7 or XP on the hardware that obviously will not be connected to any network, just all by itself (key may be on the case, though you may have your old one). File transfer via USB, or take the hard drive out, connect to a USB adapter, and load files you want later installed. If going the Linux as the Host OS, passthrough is possible and would allow connection to any NAS you have.
    5. Steam through Linux. There are plenty of old games that can run on that hardware.
    6. Run old DOS games. Linux and DOSBox or the various frontends for DOSBox can work here. If running Linux, the unit can be on your network, and any file repository you have would be accessible (ISO images for various old games come to mind). You would need something to deal with some DRM (a full paid version of Alcohol 52% or 120% come to mind for that. The FE version sadly does not have the A.C.I.D. program to get around the disc safe and other DRM annoyances). If dealing with mixed mode CD's (track 1 is data, the rest are game background music and other audio), that DVD may help in making ISO's of those (K3B on Linux is one of the few programs I know of that will do Track At Once (TAO) rather than Session At Once (SAO) with a compatible drive). Mixed mode CD's that have been converted to BIN and CUE form, Alcohol 120% FE edition will handle on the Windows side.
    7. Home media server client and Home Theatre PC (HTPC). You have the DVD drive, that may have a firmware update, and if so you can play DVD's on that (you may have ripped the DVD's already, if so the media server client path is open). Since the unit has on-board video and a PCI-E x16 slot of some level, you could hook it up to an HD capable TV and go from there. You don't need a lot of graphics power for playing 1080p content, so on-board may be fine (I'd have to check the video again as to on-board video connections. There are DVI to HDMI adapters), but a 2Gb or 4Gb graphics card (even some older 256Mb cards can do this and that's AGP era stuff, though there were initial PCI-E cards that also were low video memory cards) can free up that system memory (you may have one in your parts pile) and of course a second card allows for dual displays, or output to something else to capture from the old gear.
One idea if you don't already have some DDR3 around is to upgrade that memory with a 32Gb kit (I got a G.Skill kit way back 4x8Gb, as I picked up two dual channel kits (2x8GB per kit). If you have some DDR3 around, getting the unit to 16Gb would be a good minimum, but if you can get it to 32Gb, that will open a number of doors for you. My kit is a RipjawsX 1866MHz kit, and I paired that with an AMD Athelon FX-8150 CPU. I plan on setting that up as a home server or media client, but it can still run a number of titles at medium or better settings depending on the graphics card. If you have an RX580 8Gb card that worked well with mine and should work with what you have there.
The key for a lot of the games for me when I was running that FX chip was looking at the Intel specs for the game and comparing that to my chips' own specs.
Games you may be able to run (my FX-8150 ran these with that RX580 with medium settings or a mix of medium and high, 60Hz monitor at 2560x1440, if you go to 1080 that will affect your results):
    Sword Art Online Alicization Lycoris
    Bionic Commando
    Bionic Commando Re-Armed
Borderlands 2 (3 is iffy for your hardware, my 8150, most likely will run it)
    Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
River City Girls (Some of the other River City games should run, too)
    FightN' Rage
Street Fighter 5 (there is a mobile version of 4, BlueStacks will run that. There is a release of a Street Fighter Alpha for PC I found on Steam, you should be able to run that)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Cowabunga Collection and Shredders Revenge are just two to look into in that franchise)
    Batman Arkham Origins
    Fallout 4
    Elderscrolls 4 Oblivion
Some earlier Witcher titles (3 should work)
    Doom 3
    Doom (2016)
Doom Eternal (mine yes, yours possibly)
Any DOS game you want (Wing Commander 3 and 4 along with Prophecy (if this is misspelled my appologies), among others)
MechWarrior 3 and 4 (I think you can find these free now)
MechWarrior Online (now known as MechWarrior Legends)
Various indie games (BAT-Boy (find it on Steam), a number of others, of which a number of are free or low cost)
    Megaman Legacy Collection
    Megaman X Collection
    Wartech Fighters
Honkai Impact 3rd (PC Client, or through BlueStacks using the mobile version)
Genshin Impact (see notes on Honkai above)
Honkai Star Rail (not sure about the PC Client (my 8150 probably could run it), as to the mobile version through BlueStacks, not sure for your hardware there, my 8150 probably).
The key for BlueStacks will be having four cores and 8Gb of memory available. Those four cores are a default, but I did run that on a dual core Laptop with AMD Vision for Megaman X Dive Mobile (laptop was a dual core system running Windows 10, should have left it on 7 as the memory was not upgradeable and with what I was running a lot of that memory was taken up in 10).
There are recent games that have been made by small teams, various individuals, and released later as free (Epic Store freebies, for example) that your hardware should run without issue (anything with 2D graphics or trying for old school RPG look and feel (Skald Against the Black Priory for example).
I will say if you start dealing with any flying games, a good USB joystick is a must. I do recommend the Logitech Wingman Pro 3D USB flightstick (you should be able to find it around the $40 to $60 dollar mark. A controller is a very good idea too. If you have a Playstation or XBox controller of some version around, those can work or need an adapter. If all else fails, Logitch Gamepad F310 (ran me $40) is a good choice.
I hope my suggestions help and happy gaming.

That is one of the best AMD APU's for the FM2+ Socket. It is definitely a hard to come by Processor these days. It clocks at 3.9ghz boost and is a Quad Core with a decent graphics core (the R7 was decent for the time period. And is still good enough (preferably with an SSD or a NVME Drive on a x4 PCIE adapter.) for most Office applications and networking functions and even some 720p Streaming video from TH-cam, Amazon and Disney etc. So if you get a bargain on a ATX Micro Case (and an SSD if possible) You could build a good little PC for a kid to play Minecraft or Roblox. PS don't forget to keep the I/O shield.

I thinks thats a Lenovo H50, they have an intel model with a haswell board that u can plug in an i7-4770, and for amd the highest chip looks like the A10-7800. If your OK with running ultra low spec bottom of the basement potato gaming pcs 720P@30FPS all you need for this board is to pickup an old trusty red circuit board Bus Powered tiny ATI Radeon HD or R7 or R9 or RX, you want to specifically look at the video cards that have DDR5 Memory, they come in variants of 1GB 2GB 4GB, some examples HD 7570, R7 250, RX 550, RX 460, plug the card in, install the amernimezone driver, reboot, install GTAV and set it to 720P Low 30fps and game on, another classic that will run is Bioshock Infinite, Dishonored, PREY, and many more. And of course you have some bus powered GT and GTX cards you can use as well just make sure its a DDR5 Card. Have a good weekend everybody.

As for stuff being left in front yards... I once woke up to 2 dogs tied up to a tree in my front yard. I had a fenced yard and separated area above a retaining wall, so someone literally broke into my fence to do it. Never found the owners and rehomed the dogs to some friends. They were pretty well behaved so they obviously had families. Never really found out what happened to make someone leave them.

The A10 was underpowered for the time but was one of the best of the AMD A series. One good thing was it had a better built in video card then Intel. You will find it is a stable, easy to work with CPU. Linux works well on these systems, as well as WIN 10. A Mame box or similar will work well. Most games will run from the mid 2000's. So, a retro game system is definitely an idea. I use it to play Bioware RPG games from 2000 to 2009. This is using just the onboard graphics with 16 gig dual channel ram and a SSD. Have fun!

15:22 "the good old days, the cpu came out" yeah that's the one thing I don't like about pga sockets, even the intel ones, when the paste gets old it tends to cement the cpu to the heatsink sometimes causing it to come out when the heatsink is removed, mainly with stock coolers like that. Also I have a cpu with similar specs to the a10-7800 (an athlon 860k, which is one without the integrated graphics) and it's based on the 3rd generation of bulldozer (which u may be more familiar with as what the amd fx series used) I use it with a gtx 960 for windows xp stuff such as some old games and for my old media players and other devices that require xp.

    • @frommatorav1
      @frommatorav1 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah. It doesn't even have to turn to cement to take the CPU out with the cooler. I've had it happen on AM4 CPUs with paste that was in decent shape. It felt like it had some kind of vacuum seal. I pulled up straight and gentle. No bent pins so far.

Hi guys, when I wanted to go on the internet for the first time about 20 years ago. I went to a computer repair place and got the cheapest tower they had just to learn. 6 months later I was in my room and needed to go to the loo and make a coffee when I came back my room was full of putrid smoke (Capacitor let go). I called the shop and told them about the power supply and they did me a favour by selling me a good unit cheaper than the asking price (no warranty on the first one so I was happy.) The lesson of the day, you only get what you pay for. I wish they still sell the Toshiba Satellite Pro, I still have mine and thinking of doing upgrades to it as it still works just a lil slow even with an SSD.

I gave away a retired Athlon 64 system with a Radeon 9500 Pro that was only about four years old at the time. It passed through a few hands, and while it was with a certain cousin, it died. He didn't tell anyone for months, thinking he'd be left holding the bag. It wasn't until I asked to check up on it that he admitted that it was broken. I had to tell him "I'm not mad, there's a reason I gave it away". Then I helped him pick the parts for his own PC. (And I ended up with his electronic drum kit when he had to downsize so I'm really not mad.)
I kinda wish I had the case (nothing else, just that case) back now.
