This is absolutely beautiful repair work (A+). Wish I had the technical aptitude for detailed work like this

Might be worth recording when the first Fly car was released.
An online search had Mr Adept record the same as my recollections :
"Fly Started in 1996 with the A1 and A2 Viper GTS-R. White with green stripes and Metallic Blue with White strips.
Followed by the A3 and A4 in early 97, dayglo Yellow and Orange respectively.
The Venturis appeared in mid 97 just prior to the Marcos."
The Capri cars were quite a time after in the production sequence of Fly models.
Early on there were not catalogs to record the sequence, but large club magazines often had news of a new brand of interesting slot car.
The Fly reliance on very strong magnets is controversial, but really got many into the hobby amazed by how how fast the Fly cars could corner on the common plastic tracks in use.
After Fly did that, within a few years most makers were going down the strong magnet route.

Hi Rob, another really enjoyable series, very informative and such high quality of work.
Regards paint stripping I use .3 or .4 brake fluid, it’s safe on styrene and also clear parts, it’ll remove 2k clear and lacquer paints safely from plastic. Typically I leave it 24-48 hours to soak and the paint will brush off leaving an as new finish. I find .3 works a bit quicker than the newer .4 fluids. Not a quick fix, but very effective and reliable.

Great info, thank you. This body turned out to be OK to sand, but if paint needed to be removed, your info would be great to know.

I started with the other Viper. When it was first released. Initially I was disappointed. On my old classic Scalextric track, which was very old and bumpy, it had too much magnet and ran too low. Used to get hung up all over the place. But on the big club track, which was much newer Ninco, these vipers were unbeatable against the Scalextric cars of the time. Mainly because of the magnet. I’ve recently bought some more, this Capri and their Racing version. With much less tweaking than is going on here I’ve got them running well on the new routed club track. Looking forward to the next instalment.

    Awesome Rob
I have ever seen an engine configuration like that before in a slot car just like the original car 👍

Yes, Fly do it all the time and it's not all that good.

    i have that same capris.
tossed all " rules" out the window and made it real fast.
using tiny magnet chips ftom a real super collider the dangerous kind of magnetic chips.
a custom rewound motor custom comm.
on a carerra track it'll break a finger. lol
it completely eats gears and pinons .

Hi Rob, what timing app is that you're using on CV?
BTW, another enjoyable watch, and a good reason to drag that horrible Carrera Capri out and make it competitive with a SlotIt pod.

I did start to use a modified Ninco Nscorer, but my modifications were not always 100% reliable. So I bought a DS system, but not had time to fit it. At the moment in desperation, I have been using the LapTracker App on my IPhone. It cost £1.99 and I have to say, I like it VERY MUCH! The only down side is it's on my phone where I don't feel happy to allow many random racers use it at a club meeting or open comp. Other than that, the App is really good!
