What a coincidence lol. I knew about Blackgaze for a while but I was literally just starting to immerse myself in the genre. Listening to Alcest as I write this. Appreciate the list!
This is a great list of bands in the genre! Sunbather by Deafheaven was not only my introduction to blackgaze, but also to the genre of black metal as a whole. I love Sadness and An Autumn, too.
Awesome video. Black metal is my favorite metal genre and blackgaze is probably my favorite subgenre of that, though post-black metal and atmospheric black metal are close. Though some of the albums mentioned here lean more towards post-black than blackgaze this is a very solid list with pretty much anything I would suggest being covered. The only two that I would suggest that aren't on here are Nova by Sylvaine from Norway and Beautiful Ghosts by Unreqvited from Canada.
Old dog here, and having been into Shoegaze for the last 30 years, I can say nothing about Shoegaze and its guitars...You. my dear Blackgazers, have understood it all!!! The few, the proud....the Shoegazers!!!! 🖤😎🎸
I'm glad this video was made, and I'm an Alcest fan. I've been listening to a band called Holy Fawn though. So far my favorite albums from them are Dimensional Bleed and Death Spells.
Thank you vrf3!! We love Alcest as well :). Holy Fawn is soooo good. I've heard Dimensional Bleed but not Death Spells. I'll give it a listen. Best regards!
yay, so glad to see Olhava and Show Me the Dinosaur here! If anyone's willing to dive deeper into russian blackgaze/post-black scene, I'd also recommend культура курения ("smoking culture") as one of the staples and Varhara as a band that has made some prominent waves recently.
Thanks for the list, happy to see Amesoeurs here, that album is so atmospheric! I have to recommend one track from Sadness, a 23 min song from album Leave - Encontrarnos. It's mesmerizing!
Møl is amazing! It's really cool that bm fans can be introduced to shoe gaze and shoe gaze fans can be introduced to bm through this beautiful subgenre!
Lantlôs - Lantlôs (2008) Suburban Blackgaze Metal Holy Grail of Post Black, It started completely a full escence of Black nostalgia meeting shoegaze , its. A must Listen , Îsern Himmel (2006-07) too. Great video !
Thanks for making this list. I had tons of joy making playlist discovering amazing pieces one by one. Your recommendations are much more profound than on other similar vids with 10 times more view. You definitely know and LOVE the subject, you even recommend individual tracks so great job. My introduction to the genre was Damian's another project "life" with its "demo three", amazing piece too. Wanted to get into blackgaze for long
A great list! I am familiar with most of these bands/records but there are a few to check out. I would also recommend the artist Sylvaine, especially her latest release 'Nova'
Solid list! I'm going to have to check out a couple of the artists here that I haven't heard yet. I really fell in love with this style as it was emerging over 10 years ago. It was a very needed evolution from the stagnating orthodox black metal of the 00s. I'd also say Germ's "Butterfly" might be the finest example of the style. An honorable mention: Cold Body Radiation. Their output has been quite solid and is as good as the bands mentioned here.
For the past 2 month, i've been listening to Malikliya and Asunojokei whenever i got some edit to do. Cz their song is sooo good and the melody is so beautifull.
So happy to see a LOT of great artists and even specific albums that I recognize on this list. If there's any one band I would recommend you all listen to, it's Grief & Bliss--they've got a fantastic blackgaze sound and feel.
Great recs in this video! I just LOVE Sadness, the boy is really a genius, so young too! I Want To Be There is my favourite record by him. Blackgaze is so cool!!
Good list. Ones to check out that aren't on this list are Autumn by Coldworld (plus the rest of their discography), Esse Est Percipi by Autumn Nostalgie, Eiskrig I by Wedward and Negative Memories by My Useless Life. They are the ones I always go back to.
I tend to listen to blackgaze and silent hill inspired music in the autumn and winter months. Not sure if thats just a me thing or a genuine sound that some people identify and vibe with during these colder months.... Probably the latter😅
Thanks for this list! I downloaded a bunch of your recommendations to my Apple Music. Alcest - Souvenirs d'un autre monde is by far one of my favorite of this style of music. So nice to see it at the top of your list. I'm a big fan of Blood Incantation and their album Hidden History of the Human Race. Though it may not fit into the Blackgaze genre it's one of the trippiest, prettiest, travel across the universe, badass psychedelic metal music I've ever heard. Similar feeling to when I first heard Deftones's White Pony album.
Amazing video! Thank you! An Autumn For Cipple Children is one of the best band ever! (I like as well how no blackgaze band sounds like black-metal nor shoegaze and more like Deftones gone serious with japanese compression.)
I've been listening to Les Discrets so much over the last month. So much good stuff. Edit: also why are there so many great blackgaze bands coming from France?
Agreed! We are a huge fan as well :). That's a great question! My best guess would be Neige's influence within the scene. He's inspired so many other groups on this list (and featured in many as well!)
gracias por el video hora de expandir horizontes con tu compilación solo sé de hypomanie(hace dbsm también)y sadness( ese lo oigo más ambiental) en cuanto a blackgaze
Thank you for putting out this video. I have been listening to A lot of blackgaze lately. A band called L ux with their album ‘become your star’ is amazing. Check it out
Would've liked to listen to more of the songs featured on this video. Idk if TH-cam's DRM have a stricter time limit nowadays, but it feels like it's not enough to get an idea of what the song is. Would've loved to at least hear them in the background while the narrator talked about each band.
Guys, please remember that when you listen to russian bands like Olhava on streaming services, you help them to get monetization and then pay some taxes to the russian government. This money will be used to finance missiles and bombs launched against citizens of Ukraine and Syria. Even though it can be a little money, this is noticeable support of aggression against foreign countries. Thanks for the video though, I've taken a few references.
What a coincidence lol. I knew about Blackgaze for a while but I was literally just starting to immerse myself in the genre. Listening to Alcest as I write this. Appreciate the list!
Great timing lol! We hope you enjoy your exploration into the beautiful world of blackgaze 🖤. Appreciate the feedback!
Can't beat joy division especially the album closer
Great list, love the Asunojokei inclusion.

I feel like Altar of Plagues has been a very important band that people often don't mention, but it's a good list!
Old dog here, and having been into Shoegaze for the last 30 years, I can say nothing about Shoegaze and its guitars...You. my dear Blackgazers, have understood it all!!! The few, the proud....the Shoegazers!!!! 🖤😎🎸

i love holy fawn sm
Holy Fawn is ridiculous. Everything they drop is so good.
@@StainedGlassStoriesDeath Spells is incredible.
Alcest, White Ward, Violet Cold and HFTS mentionned in a single vid 🥹
all albums listed are absolue bangers

SO happy to see MALIKLIYA getting attention, truly superb music
The Sadness album is off the scale-sheer despair and very emotional..reminds me of Angelic Process
Thanks for the list, happy to see Amesoeurs here, that album is so atmospheric!
I have to recommend one track from Sadness, a 23 min song from album Leave - Encontrarnos. It's mesmerizing!

No complaints from me 👍👍. Extra respect for the abstract void inclusion
We appreciate that
Been nuts about that Lantlôs album lately. Keep up the good work blokes 🤟🏻
.neon is so awesomely dark and jazzy. I absolutely love it. Appreciate the positive feedback!

Thank you very much manfredmar :)!! I'm glad it was the right blend of the familiar and newer stuff for you. We will be sure to check out Sylaine!
Nice list! there are some bands I didn’t know and definitely will give them a try. My favorite black gaze album by far is Nova by Sylvaine.

Asunojokei so good live.

Amesoeurs had a release prior to their self titled called Ruines Humaines which isnt on spotify anymore :(

If you have never heard Death Spells by the band Holy Fawn, then go and check it out
Great list!! Thanks for enlightening the genre !
every stained glass stories video is basically me adding stuff to my playlist lol
Awesome, thanks for doing this list!
You're very welcome! It was our pleasure :)
Amazing video! Thank you!

Lantlos is my favorite.
A very nice video!
No Sylvaine Nova? Regardless, I love Condolence. Thank you for the recommendation. I am really enjoying it.
Weird that skyforest didn't make the list.

Unfortunately this is all we can do due to copyright issues :(
sick vid
Thank you luta :)
One suggestion, Icosandria.
No Sylvaine? :O
Amesoeurs "Soul sisters" what?
This is a joke or something?
What's next, dream pop grindcore,lol.
This unironically sounds incredible
Just sounds like shoegaze?
Except more darker and atmospheric :)
Brrrrrrrrrreeeeeeeee *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k* *ts-k*
with a lot of blastbeats and screaming
Seems done by a newbie... it misses A LOT of great bands and albums.
Any recommendations?

No amount of music hatred will give you a wife
