    I engraved 8x11" slate with the 'Teeter' coat of arms and gave them to my grandkids for Christmas. I did a topcoat before engraving. They looked great, but they didn't smell very good when engraving. Thank goodness for exhaust!

    I have found that the etch really pops if you precoat your slate with a little clear lacquer.

    What kind of eye protection do you use? I want to be able to watch the laser work a bit but not with the cheap pair it came with haha. Just got the same laser a few months ago and have been loving it! Your videos have really helped me with learning how to run it.

    Dave, great TH-cam series, I watch from the UK. Have you done any slate engraving with the Ortur Laser Master 3 yet, and if so, could you please let us know what settings you used?

    • @TheClackShack

      I haven't but as you may know, my LM3 is now a 20 watt hybrid. A 10 watt, I would run 70mm/s at 100%. About the same as coated stainless settings.

      You download them from Etsy. If you are using XCS, import the dxf file. XCS will modify the size of other file types. Unless they have fixed it

    I have the Xtool D1 Pro 20w machine. I did my first slate at 100% power and 200mm/s speed, it came out fine, but I would like to get the engraved part a little whiter. Any suggestions on maybe changing the speed or power settings. Thanks.

    • @TheClackShack

      You could mask and paint. Slate will only get grey from my experience

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would think 70mm/s at 100% would work well.

    Im a bit confused on the "focus" you are talking about, I never use the button on the right side of the laser, just the left to adjust using that metal rod to set the spacing between the laser and the material.
    I tried an engraving on slate with your settings and it turned out very rough and gravely.

    • @TheClackShack
      @TheClackShack  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The right side is the "Z offset" so to speak. Should be set to 0 for engraving and half the thickness for cutting.
