Hey. TWSBI (Twiz bee) is a piston filling pen. As you said, carries a lot of ink as the body holds the ink. I prefer to use the blunt needle syringe to fill converters or reuse cartridges. Much less messy. Then I lay the pens flat for a few minutes to let the ink saturate the feed. And I use the same syringe or a bulb syringe to clean feed on my pens plus converters/cartridges.

When you fill the pen with the converter still inside you also fill the barrel/reservoir of the pen right to the nib. That is why the pen works immediately. If you only fill the converter there is no ink in the barrel/reservoir of the pen and that is why it doesn’t work straight away. You have to wait until the ink gets to the tip of the nib.
THANK you so much! I have been struggling with refilling my pens and was taking the piston out of the pen!!! Much easier and cleaner leaving it in as you demonstrated. Duh. BUT this seems to be a messy operation regardless. I am going to get the TWSBI for the extra ink capacity and that will save me a lot of angst. This was terribly helpful.
For permanent inks to use with line and wash, there is also the De Atramentis document ink line in numerous colors including blacks, greys and blues. There is also a sepia I believe.
Be careful with German "document" inks--many have fine particles in them that can clog fountain pen feeds, even when they say they are for fountain pens. To play it safe, clean with water after each use, and have an ultrasonic cleaner on hand. That has been my experience; yours may vary.
A dedicated pen is a good idea, but it still needs to be flushed with water once in a while. I am about to fill an inexpensive flex nib pen with R&K Scabiosa ink.

I am not sure that you would notice a HUGE difference in a EF or F nib for urban sketching, maybe a total ink drawing using lots of texture patterns or something. I have a TWSBI in EF, but since I am left handed I wanted to try a pen with an opposite slant that only Lamy seems to produce and they only come in a medium nib. The medium is a heavier line to the EF but not horribly so. I hope this helps you.
I think Debra's right, you may not notice much of a difference between the two. But I originally bought my Safari with a Medium nob and just bought a replacement to try out the EF....wan't to try our medium again though and I think I've lost it 🙄🙄
I use a Moonman M2 which is drip-filled and can contain a whopping 14 ml of ink. I only have to refill it once every two months or so, and it's my daily writing & drawing pen.
Thanks a million for that. I got a fude pen, the green one, a couple of weeks ago. For what it's worth, I tend to use Rohrer & Klingner in fountain pens, it's water proof. I've put some into the fude by using an empty cartridge and filling it with a syringe. Seems to be working well. Thanks for your videos👍🏻
Rohrer & Klinger makes two excellent iron gall inks--Salix (blue) and Scabiosa (dusky rose). Mixed together half and half, they make an outstanding blue-black ink that is waterproof once dry. This is exactly the type of fountain pen ink that was standard through WWII. Warning: be VERY careful to rinse out ALL the iron gall ink with water before putting in any other kind--almost all other inks are alkaline instead of acid, and mixing them will cause a heavy precipitate that will probably destroy the pen. In addition to being waterproof, the ink is extremely dry--it is the only ink I have found that will tame a Pelikan nib. My experience is that properly serviced (ink sac replaced) vintage pens are often far better value for money than expensive modern ones. For inexpensive pens that one needn't fear dropping or losing, fountainpenrevolution.com has a selection, including reasonably priced true flex nibs and ebonite feeds if desired. [Don't waste money on gold nibs--steel is fine.] It IS possible to make plastic feeds that are equivalent to ebonite, but it is difficult and they are usually expensive. Ebonite truly is better than many or most plastic feeds. Vintage ebonite feeds can be brittle, but I have a number of ones from the 1920's and 1930's that are still perfect. [Warning: never hand a vintage fountain pen to someone who only knows ballpoint pens.] I greatly prefer pens with ink sacs (no matter the filling mechanism) to converters; there is a lot of variation among piston fillers--some good, others not. Lately I have been experimenting with Faber Castell Pitt pens, which have a lot to be said for them (waterproof ink being one), but think I will go back to a Fountain Pen Revolution flex nib with R&K iron gall ink for a while. Note: I tried a Platinum "iron gall" ink once--nice color, but water soluble. If you want a good iron gall ink, stick with R&K.

I have Thea, a kind of sepia greyish colour, and Lotte, which is black. Waterproof and fountain pen friendly, I've had no problems during my short time using these products. Probably shouldn't be left unused in a pen for days on end without drawing, though. I've never seen them in art shops here in France, they're of German manufacture. Good quality.
I don't understand very well the trademark of the cartridge ' s pen or even if each one can be used with cartrige that it will be useful on a travel tour. Thanks
