In our Volvo, it is built in and uses the regular window to project on. I can not believe that a Tesla, that is so fricking expensive, do not have this option. I have now used HUD for three years and it is a pain in the ass to drive a car without it. He has some irrational dislike of them and makes people believe they are a benefit even with FSD. Of course ignoring that even with FSD we will still go between driving modes, and HUDs are useful in auto driving too. HUDs are becoming 3D with more AR feature. Projected displays are better.
i think the screen should become all driving stats. i don't need to see the satnav all the time. what i would like to see is acceleration rates, MPEG, total and predicted ranges and percentage use per minute but hay ho.

I have a similar system on my model 3 made by HUDLY and the best features of the system is the ability to cast Waze from your phone to the HUD where it's really helpful to see accident, COPS and traffic.
Personally, as a highly prospective Tesla owner in very eager waiting, I am torn right down the middle as to whether I would want a heads-up display or to just rely on the built-in 17" display. What would have been really cool, though, is if Tesla had put in an HUD projector unit that turns the entire windshield into a HUD screen, overlaying the Autopilot and FSD visualizer data within your field of view and putting the speed at the top or bottom depending on a user-definable preference within the display settings. This would allow for rendering that is as photorealistic as it gets using augmented reality through the network of built-in cameras.
I gave you a thumbs up for the video because you took the time to film and edit it. But I'm in the group that doesn't want to over-accessorize my Tesla. That said, there is no way I would add this heads up display or change the angle of my Tesla screen as you've previously done. Thanks for making the videos and I'll always look forward to your next one.
Center displays have never really bothered me. Our Scion xA and Prius had them. I've also seen them in Mini Coopers and never heard owners complain. I'm glad that an aftermarket exists for those that feel the need for these but I think that market is probably limited but it's just IMHO. When the Model 3 was first revealed, the center screen was one of my favorite features and I'm so glad they didn't cave to all those complaining about it back then since most of that has waned after owners quickly realized it's not a huge deal. I hope the Cybertruck sticks with the demo design too.
Having driven my Model 3 for 18 months, I can say that I really have no desire for a HUD anymore. Looking at the center screen has NOT been a hassle in my experience.

@@JohnnyZenith In FRONT of me should be the windshield. You probably mean "directly below". As the human eye has a rather horizontal view-range, "below" is per definition less comfortable then "on the side". In addition, it's not just "below", but "behind the steering wheel", which often means "(partly) blocked by either hand or the steering wheel". "Behind the steering wheel" is simply something we are accustomed to since ~100 years. It's not better by any means, but has some severe drawbacks. You really don't need to remind me of 30+ years of driving conventional cars - I still own and drive one. I simply have learned to overcome 3 decades of "it's always been like that" and have learned better.
You should see it this way: the closer they get to full autonomy, the less likely they'll implement a HUD. that's why they chose not to implement in the first place
@@silvrsurfer not only. Tesla decided that a small HUD picture with low resolution (480x240) would have been in a bad contrast to the huge hi-res center display. For the Model 3 they could buy such a simple HUD for $115-$125 and easily resell them with 6x-8x markup as a built-in option. Aesthetic over function. Tesla is Apple of the car world.
Would love to see a test if this still displays speed and other data even when you do a double long press reset of the main computer. The car still drives no problem so I wonder if the data is still flowing from the core drive software. That would give this and potentially other devices a massive boost as a backup speedometer.
A true hud Allows your vision focus to be on infinity not on the windshield. The placement of the image of this device is similar to the eye focus on the computer screen it just moves it over to the center and close to the windshield.
I like you detest the 3rd party installation. Excellent accessory that should be standard/optional in any vehicle especially the Tesla vehicles. That being said, I'll buy it anyway. Thanks for the discount! Suggestion: add Bluetooth and an app to customize the display and offer all available information to choose.
The only HUD that works for me goes straight on the screen, this one gives you a tunnel effect where the image moves around relative to the acrylic screen. It looks really 'naff' with that cable and downgrades the Tesla far too much. Leave well alone, the big screen is fine. $350 is far too much to find out you hate it after a couple of days.
Would have been much better if Tesla had installed it in the first place. They could have hidden the projector in the surface of the dash and you wouldn't see anything It would just display on the windshield. It's one of the things I absolutely detest about the Model 3 and model Y. I hate the interior Dash design. important information that you need to see should be directly in front of you not off to the right
A missed opportunity by Tesla. If they'd only spent 50 dollars fitting these into a tiny lens on every dash, thier safety stats would have been even more amazing. Annoying, as they aren't just stats, they're real people with avoidable life changing injuries.
Since you are disconnecting a vital connector and inserting a non-Tesla connector and 'OBDII' reader in between the vital Tesla connector, there is a strong possibility that you are voiding the warranty of the car and may in fact do damage to the car... Be very careful if you buy it and install it, read the directions and follow them exactly. And to make sure that the warrenty is not voided, remove it before you have your Tesla serviced at a service center or by a Ranger. This device is an incredibly limited device that shows only 1% of what is actually be sent on the OBD bus. Here is a partial list of what can be accessed on the bus - outside temp, interior Temp, bat v, bat A, drive total kWh, Miles, average Consumption, DC Charge Total, AC charge total, Regen Total drive total, Nom Full, Nominal Remaining, Energy Buffer SOC, Cell Tem Max, Cell Tem mid, Cell Temp Min, Cell V Max, Cell V mid, Cell V min, Cell Imbalance mV, Charge Total kWh, Discharge Total KwH, Discharge Cycles, Charge Cycles, Discharge kWh, Charge kWh, Stationary, SMTRated Range
I'll stick with the stock display, it's never been an issue for me. I don't have to turn my head to use it, it's just a slight glance over with my eyes. This device is just another thing that sucks range out of our cars, no matter how slight. Throw this into the equation with charging our phones, brighter interior lights, massaging seat bladder mods, power trunk, power frunk...the list goes on and on, and it adds up. The Model 3 and Y doesn't need a HUD, in fact most cars don't need a HUD.
He has some irrational dislike of them and makes people believe they are a benefit even with FSD. Of course ignoring that even with FSD we will still go between driving modes, and HUDs are useful in auto driving too.
Interesting, I like how it uses OBD2 data. However, the price seems high. I would rather have it display on the windshield and not have the clear plastic section - it would look less obtrusive. I would get it if the price was closer to $200.
This seems to be a helpful gadget for people who prefer seeing things right in front of them but personally I think the Model 3's speedometer and signals are easy to see right on the touchscreen. Great review! Perhaps I'll get one for my SR+ just to review it myself lol
HUD, who needs it. Use autopilot all the time, and you never need to look to see how fast you are going! And, if you do, it is within your “field of view” so no need to take your eyes off the road. Besides, eventually, you won’t need to pay attention or control the car, so get use to it! If you want an EV with interment clusters behind the steering wheel, trade your Tesla, for a Leaf, or Bolt.
What I like about the Model 3 is this clean field of view... so this is not for me.. But If Tesla add this kind of feature upper in the windshield in the futur, that could be usefull for the GPS.
I've been interested in HUDs for a long time with my Tesla, so I was happy to see your video, however, you left a lot of information out. For example, what is the price? How about the size? Too bit? Too small? Easy to read? Etc. Those are just a few examples that I thought of off the top of my head. This video seems to be not much more than an ad.
Thanks for another great video. My last two cars were Minis so looking at the center of the dash is just normal for me. I have seen several concept cars were the windshield is a screen and that is something I would like😀
I like it. I would like a HUD and $350 isn't unreasonable in my opinion. Hopefully the HUD displays its info at infinity, so your eyes don't have to refocus from the road. If so, that's an improvement over the center screen. Info I woud like: when the Tesla alerts, I would like the HUD to display where the car "thinks"the danger is. As it is, I'm looking around for the problem, not at the screen! (It would also be nice if the car would use the sophisticated sound system to make the beep seem to come from the direction the "danger" is in.) Seems to me, just like the frunk and trunk openers, the cable could be theaded, and maybe a little hole could be punched, so the wire is hidden. Great review, thanks!
It is possible to have such a system. Some premium cars are going to have them as an option in the next couple of years. But not Tesla. They think you don't need such functionality. Tesla is Apple of the car world.
You mention constantly checking your speed. Have you tried setting TAC at the speed limit, then tapping the new speed limit sign if it changes on the screen. (I haven't, but another TH-camr said if your cruise is above the (new) speed limit, just tap the sign to reset cruise.)
Don't like size, the fact that it doesn't project on the window and the exposed wire. Would be interested in a BT version that projected on the window.
This is a great idea but it 100% needs to be battery powered and have a cartridge battery that you plug into the USB or lighter socket to charge when it's getting low/when you leage the car.
Great vid ... I would love to test this gadget out on my model 3.. I am looking forward to see how this company and its product matured in the coming quarters
I had a heads up display in my BMW. I liked it a lot and miss it. I would get this but the installation is a bit daunting. If it was a bluetooth device I would purchase it.
It stands out to much. Doesn't go with the simple clean aesthetic of a Tesla. But I can see Tesla doing this in the future with a better implementation.
Surely begs the question why isn’t there a hud already built into m3 and mY. You can argue till the cows come home that it’s okay to have the info off to the side on the main screen, but in front of you is always better. It doesn’t have to be complex info like the screen, just Speedo, basic nav and important hazard warnings are all you need there.
Can't wait until we can turn the entire windshield into a HUD. Allowing us to have all essential information right in our field of view as well as providing visual overlay gps directions that are easier to understand and follow intuitively.
Looks a lot easier to add than my Sirius XM Stratus 7 which requires running wires for power, for it receiving antenna, AND for its FM transmitting antenna. And, until you mentioned it, I didn't even see that wire.
Congratulations you just turn the $50,000 car into a $15,000 looking car. It ruins the entire streamline beauty and simplistic complexity of the model three
I am in the group that would love a factory-installed heads up. I won't be buying this unit for my (upcoming) Model Y. Don't like the clunky look of it on the dash. But, thanks for the video showing it and how it works.
Chevy has had an HUD for about 20 years, I have one in my GMC, it uses a well that reflects on the windshield. Hyundai had a clear retractable screen but has changed over to the well as well.
A HUD is what I always thought would be cool for any Tesla. But this one looks too blocky (the base) and the screen looks too small, and ugh on the wire. My ideal scenario would be using the window as the screen and having a flatter wireless base projector. Then maybe the price would be right.

This is great, It should have more of an upward angle and be lower to the vent and run down the vent line. If that happened I would buy it. I don't know why they had to make it so obvious on the dash.
I like the concept of having a HUD display but I don't think I would get it until they come up with a way to connect the display through a bluetooth OBD2 dongle so there isn't a wire being strung along the dash I wonder if in time they will be able to make the screen a little larger but the base thinner so it doesn't look like a 3rd party accessory. Right now I have a Model S but when the lease is up I was thinking about going to the Model Y. By the way I like your show, I think you do a great job of keeping us well informed.
I would love it if our Model 3 had a HUD as original equipment. But, adding a third-party device that has direct access to the car's computer, especially a device with over the air update capability, seems like an invitation to disaster. Or am I missing something?

I have a family member who will not drive my Model 3 because she is not comfortable having to look "all the way over there" at the center display when driving. I think adding the HUD would give her the instrumentation she feels she needs right where she needs it. It might convince her to drive the car. That said, ditto to earlier comments - $350 is a high price tag and the cable disrupts the clean aesthetic of the Model 3 dash. For $99 and bluetooth connectivity instead of a cable, I would order immediately. For $149, would still probably order. Once you get above $149, I think interest is going to drop off quickly. You mentioned bluetooth in the video. Is it possible that the second gen we would receive would switch to bluetooth in the future? If so ... might bite the bullet and pay the extra $200.
A proper POV turn by turn nav display (like in the maps app on my iPhone) showing the road ahead, intersecting streets, etc. The list style in the current Tesla nav display is too distracting and awkward. If Tesla won't incorporate that type of nav display into the vehicle overview display in the left panel, or even better into an OEM HUD ... then a third party HUD is the only option. Also ... a wireless connection to the sending unit plugged into the OBD port.
Great job and thank you for bringing this to our attention. You immediately lost me when I saw a cable running along the side, this is NO GO for me. If & when they have a BT option, I would revisit this again. To be honest, anytime I see options where you have to take apart your car, find a way to hide wires and connections, I won't & can't be bothered.
Regardless of whether it got its information over Bluetooth. You would need to find a way to power the device. It's going to have to have wires running to it regardless so you might as well send the information over the wire as well.
display should be taller and wider and designed better to blend naturally with the windshield in a way which makes it seem more cohesive to the vehicles, modern, minimalist, design. - Also, as you’ve fairly (unbiasedly) mentioned, the cord is an aesthetic issue. However! - Here’s the big issue you didn’t cover. You mention over and over and over that this device from (Han-Sho?) which is obviously a Chinese company, that they will provide “Over-the-Air” updates. So my question is, how is this done? Does this HUD have its own LTE? WiFi? If it connects to your home WiFi, what data is it potentially intercepting/gathering (Google searches/Banking information, etc.) over your home network and all of your LAN devices? -Or, does it somehow piggyback over the OBDII Port (if at all possible) to the Tesla’s LTE or WiFi? - If this is the case, what data is HanSho(?) collecting and sending back home to China? Since, by connecting to your OBDII Port, you’ve essentially given the device a direct brain tap/splice to EVERYTHING about the vehicle, And, potentially, your private home network and all the connected devices. - There’s a goldmine of modern information there which the typical end user may be unaware of giving away. My take on this is, given the numerous mentions of “over-the-air” updates, is that this device was created as a data collection tool disguised as a product. - That’s just my 2 cents.
Dude, your smart phone was made in China. If you are worried that China is spying on you for your “goldmine of information” you don’t need to worry about a gizmo on your dashboard - YOU ALREADY HAVE ONE IN YOUR POCKET!
Andrew Leavitt Andrew...I’m guessing you’re maybe an Android guy? - Possibly even a Trump supporter? Am I right? - Even so, I can tell you don’t ‘get it’ with technology. - Yes, my iPhone was Designed by Apple and built in China. But what you fail to realize is that Apple has end to end control and oversight with the production and hardware. It would be a ‘HUGE’ problem for Apple if China had included back doors into the Apple hardware. Hardware aside, we can trust that Apples iOS is maintained strictly by Apple. If we give Apple the benefit of the doubt, which we should. You would understand that Apple would would be the first to know if their phones are sending sensitive data back to China via their hardware. -That would be a major oversight. - It’s funny to me that you compare an American designed/Chinese assembled phone to a PURELY Chinese hardware device. There is literally no comparison, at all. - I’ll tell you what, I’ll start up a factory in China and sell you a high-tech watch that DOENST spy on your data. Yes, I can’t and won’t guarantee any data privacy and I certainly won’t tell you that everything you do isn’t being monitored in some capacity by the Chinese government. - That said, Apple devices have stop-gaps in place from every level, from inception, to legal, to prototype to final production to ensure that Apple maintains US legal requirements and beyond for its customers PRIVACY. --- Do you think (Han-Sho?) cares about any of this? Do you, transparently, know who they even are? - Do you know ANYTHING beyond what you *think*and *feel*?? - I believe your honest answer to yourself is, No.
I’m a big fan of clean lines so I’m not sure I’d ever be ok with the looks or that cable. I am glad it exists though for those that can’t get over not having a display behind the wheel. That being said, before getting a Model 3, I had a BMW so I don’t use turn signals or have any regard for my speedometer, so who needs a heads up display?

i wish tesla would put a plug on the dash on pass and driver side so that a tesla made speedo can be plugged into it for us oldtimers that like speedo in front if steering wheel. i do not like looking to middle for this info. period. i think priius has the same middle mounted speedo too.
Especially with the latest software update that makes it EVEN HARDER to see what you want to see on the center screen. There is so much good about the Model 3, but it feels like driving an iPhone ... "Good morning! We've changed a whole bunch of things without asking you because we are convinced that we know what you want better than you do."
Windshields aren't milled. A HUD-specced windshield need to be bent more precisely than a standard one. And in many cases it has to have a special vedge film inside to suppress the ghost image.
My obd is already blocked by the vimcar plug that protocols my trips for business use. Is there some sort of double port available? .... edit... obd splitter was the keyword.... nice video - thanks - that no-drivers-instrument-issue was a no go for me on m3 - S has it much better...
I see a possible problem / a trade off with this taking your eyes away from where critical notifications happen on the main screen. With Tesla keeping all essential information in one location, autopilot notices, lane alerts, other situational car, motorcycle and pedestrian notification, etc. ... will your attention be compromised with the two locations to now monitor? Maybe it’s not a thing, but wondering.
The screen should be user-configurable. All I need is speed, time, and the song playing in my Amazon Music (via buletooth) and the next song coming up. Your unit should be all bluetooth and no cables, not even power. If it gets low on power, you can quickly trade out the rechargeable battery that was charging in the the console. You see, your unit should come with 2 batteries. One is always charging inside the console and the other is being used in the unit. When the display shows to trade out the unit's low battery with the fully-charged battery, the driver can push a little button that releases the low battery and then replace it just as easily with the fully-charged battery that has been charging inside the console. BECAUSE THE UNIT HAS NO ATTACHED CABLES, IT DOESN'T LOOK THIRD PARTY AND PEOPLE WILL WANT TO BUY IT NOW.
Not for me I have the M3P and this would make it look cheap ...Sorry I think Tesla should look at an integrated heads up for the 3 and Y.....Still enjoy your channel loads so keep posting
Tesla won't look into at an integrated HUD in the near future. They already did. Elon thinks you don't need a HUD.
My old 2010 Lexus HS250h had a HUD with many more features (e.g., speed, navigation, displayed the buttons on the steering wheel I was touching etc) and driving the M3 is taking some getting used to because the information I typically use is on the center display. A HUD for city driving is a great feature to have ... I won't buy this because of the cable is simply too out-of-place with the rest of the dashboard design. I'd almost buy one if it came with a full dash skin where the cable is hidden under that cover and you can mount the HUD wherever you want it.
The HUD is nothing more than a second screen with no unique information. Just moving the screen directly in front of you doesn’t add much value. Your muscle memory is quickly trained to use the Tesla’s center screen at a glance - just like you scan your rear view and side mirrors regularly. HUD technology has been available in autos since the 1980’s - there’s a GREAT reason that they never caught on - they just don’t solve any real problem.
You can keep your eyes on the road and will receive all the relevant information for driving. No need to look down - less distractions. HUDs are getting cheaper and catching up. Just not at Tesla. And HUDs in the 80's very pretty crappy. They have gotten so much better in the recent years.
This seems like a complete failure at making a HUD. The whole point of it is to have the focal plane as far away as optically feasible. Usually, the image should appear at least near the end of the hood in order to make sense (not require eyes refocusing too far, and parallax “gluing” the screen to the road, rather than swimming around with your head movements and judder). This appears to have the focal plane near the windshield. That’s not how HUDs are supposed to function.
Unfortunately that thing with polarizing glasses and HUDs (well, almost all of them) is by design. Any commercially feasible TFT-display-based HUD is going to have that problem. The windshield suppresses the polarization that can pass through the glasses. Therefore it is not even present after the TFT display. Only one DMD-based HUD on the market that I know of (Lincoln Continental/Navigator) doesn't have this design trait. A DMD can't care less about polarization.
When is the version two expected to come out? Actually, the features and functionalities you mentioned seems to be very interesting. Thank you for the video, I will order the version 2 when it will be available on the market.
I think a real good head up display with argu, emted reality and with direct display in the windshield is really a missing feature in the model 3. Why not offering as a feature as other car manufacturers do it?
.... toi small not very well integrated. I think we have two options : waiting for Tesla extra options or additional optioned device made by them, especizlly designed for the model 3. Or simply avoid the idea we will have it on this model one day... ;)
Thank you for doing this video; it highlights the importance of having this feature, now standard on many vehicles. Purely on security reasons if nothing else, I hope Tesla take a note and add it as standard to all their models, incl. speed limit, essential when you have all that acceleration; will complement nicely the clean-dashboard concept.
Abandon your hope. Just agree with Elon that you don't need a HUD.
Ridiculous price. More than three times what would be appropriate, especially for something that adds redundant information that might distract the driver from doing what is most important -driving the car! If the information needed is located in only one place you don't have to make a choice about where to look for it. And, what is the reason anyone needs to know the speed all the time? The displayed speed of the car is only a gauge of an instant condition, not a criteria for safe operation of the car.
Mine isn’t connected via Canbus. That being said, I no longer represent Hansshow and if I knew then what I know now about the company I would have never endorsed them. I’m really sorry that you’re having problems with your HUD and I hope Hansshow gets back to you on a fix.
I honestly don't get why Tesla doesn't just add this as a feature into the car. I know it sucks because there isn't really a speedometer dash for the 3, but they should make way somewhere. Looking to the right to know your speed all the time is tiring.
You didn't mention wearing polarized sunglasses completely (well almost) removes the projection from your view unless you move your head to find a weak spot in the sunglasses. I love HUD however this is a major issues for me
@@FrugalTeslaGuy You mention brightness setting, do you think the brightness setting helps with that? Based on my experience with Audi Q5 display I am not happy with HUD in that vehicle when I wear my polarized sunglasses.
@@robo.1260 This after-market gimmick has the only small advantage over your windshield HUD. The angle of incidence on the combiner is pretty small, around 15-18 degrees. That allows for a TFT display to be visible even though the polarizing glasses if the designers have tweaked a bit its polarizers. Any TFT display supplier can do that. In Audi Q5 that angle should be around 55 degrees. Can't recall the exact value although I was involved in the design 6-7 years ago. That trick with linear polarization won't work without significant losses in the lumen budget. It might sound a bit gibberish, but it is just another day at work for me 😎
I have a £40 hud in my Moho which is great as a Fiat display is impossible to see. Works fine by reflecting on windscreen. My PM3 has a great display I can easily see so I don’t need this. This is for owners who buy dice for the rear view mirror.
In our Volvo, it is built in and uses the regular window to project on. I can not believe that a Tesla, that is so fricking expensive, do not have this option. I have now used HUD for three years and it is a pain in the ass to drive a car without it. And i must say that Volvo HUD is very very nicely done - not all that useless information but only what you really need.
He has some irrational dislike of them and makes people believe they are a benefit even with FSD. Of course ignoring that even with FSD we will still go between driving modes, and HUDs are useful in auto driving too. HUDs are becoming 3D with more AR feature. Projected displays are better.
HUD would be nice. Getting the speedometer off the main display where my wife monitors it, would be better.

Not feasible for mass production for many reasons.

Absolutely. The speedo on the display is MUCH better visible than any classic solution behind the steering wheel.
He has some irrational dislike of them and makes people believe they are a benefit even with FSD. Of course ignoring that even with FSD we will still go between driving modes, and HUDs are useful in auto driving too. HUDs are becoming 3D with more AR feature. Projected displays are better.
@@PatrickBreuer It's clearly superior in front of you.
I’ve always thought Tesla should add a HUD in their vehicles. Hopefully, they’ll take note and make a high quality one soon.
they wont when they intend to not hav a dash at all
You should see it this way: the closer they get to full autonomy, the less likely they'll implement a HUD. that's why they chose not to implement in the first place
The Model 3 an Y will never had a HUD, these are entry level Tesla's.
@@Resist4 but you can have a HUD in the entry-level VW Golf.
I like the ipad-like device that mounts on the top of the steering column thats wired under the dashboard to the "ODBC" port
A true hud Allows your vision focus to be on infinity not on the windshield. The placement of the image of this device is similar to the eye focus on the computer screen it just moves it over to the center and close to the windshield.
Don’t like the visible cable.
Then make it invisible. That is probably easy!
Would not like to see this on my simplistic clean line of the dash
I completely understand. I actually felt the same way but don't mind it now.
I agree!
Sorry my frugal friend, this device looks like a 49$ Chinese gadget, not a 350$ Chinese gadget.
There is 300$ shipping cost... :)
Will it spy on owners? 😝
Still can't believe that Tesla didn't create a HUD for the 3/Y
I really do appreciate your no-nonsense, honest and unbiased reviews.
So glad that I found your channel 🖖
HUD, who needs it. Use autopilot all the time, and you never need to look to see how fast you are going! And, if you do, it is within your “field of view” so no need to take your eyes off the road. Besides, eventually, you won’t need to pay attention or control the car, so get use to it! If you want an EV with interment clusters behind the steering wheel, trade your Tesla, for a Leaf, or Bolt.
I’ve had one of those sticky pads before. Over time there will a discoloration in that spot. It will never go away after you remove the pad.
Holy smokes $350. I think you should change your channel name Frugal Tesla Guy.
WoahhahahhahhHAHAHA Frugal.
Should be called Sponsored Tesla Guy. I like how they posted this video onto their website. I'd love it too of they paid me to use it.
Lol
Hh;" h
its still a first development product
I cringe at the idea of having that on the dash! But I did watch the entire video and hit the like button!!! Still a good video! 👍🏿
Refreshingly pleasant comment
Thanks for another great video. My last two cars were Minis so looking at the center of the dash is just normal for me. I have seen several concept cars were the windshield is a screen and that is something I would like😀
You can run the usb cable underneath the plastic panne behind it. It should pop off.
I hope Tesla makes this integrated. Would pay extra for sure
Someone needs to make a pico projector shine from the back of the center screen over onto the drivers area of windshield for a cleaner look.
Flicker is from pwm of the light in the display. Nice review! Head up displays are great
Can't wait until we can turn the entire windshield into a HUD.
It ruins the entire streamline beauty and simplistic complexity of the model three
But it's third party so it can be removed at any time. So how does it reduce the actual value of the car again?
@@greatonepro it does not and he didn't say so. It makes it LOOK like a 15k$ car, that's what he said.
Patrick Breuer thank you Patrick, you beat me to it haha Have a great day
I am in the group that would love a factory-installed heads up.
A HUD is what I always thought would be cool for any Tesla. But this one looks too blocky (the base) and the screen looks too small, and ugh on the wire. My ideal scenario would be using the window as the screen and having a flatter wireless base projector. Then maybe the price would be right.

Wow that's expensive. Definitely not looking to mess up the look of my Tesla interior
This is great, It should have more of an upward angle and be lower to the vent and run down the vent line. If that happened I would buy it. I don't know why they had to make it so obvious on the dash.
I like the concept of having a HUD display but I don't think I would get it until they come up with a way to connect the display through a bluetooth OBD2 dongle so there isn't a wire being strung along the dash
I wonder if in time they will be able to make the screen a little larger but the base thinner so it doesn't look like a 3rd party accessory. Right now I have a Model S but when the lease is up I was thinking about going to the Model Y. By the way I like your show, I think you do a great job of keeping us well informed.
Thanks Don!

Elon Musk decided that your family member doesn't need a HUD. Even though Tesla could have earned money with that option. Ask me how I know.
This is the opposite of frugal. If it was at 10 percent of the original price, I still wouldn't buy it. 350 bucks? That's simply crazy.
Jeremy H, you are paranoid. I like that! IMO, you raise excellent points.
How about projecting the signal straight onto the windshield and turning it into a HUD ? Might need to affix a glossy tint.

i wish tesla would put a plug on the dash on pass and driver side so that a tesla made speedo can be plugged into it for us oldtimers that like speedo in front if steering wheel. i do not like looking to middle for this info. period. i think priius has the same middle mounted speedo too.
Especially with the latest software update that makes it EVEN HARDER to see what you want to see on the center screen. There is so much good about the Model 3, but it feels like driving an iPhone ... "Good morning! We've changed a whole bunch of things without asking you because we are convinced that we know what you want better than you do."
It is generally called a "HEAD UP" not heads up display. I requires a more precisely milled windshield.
Thanks Arnold. I’m new to the Head Up Display.
You must have been military. It's call a head up display in the services.
I got over the central display back in 2009 when I got my first prius. Doesn’t bother me in the least two priuses and one model 3 later.
I've always loved the design of the Prius's dash.
Not for me I have the M3P and this would make it look cheap ...Sorry I think Tesla should look at an integrated heads up for the 3 and Y.....Still enjoy your channel loads so keep posting
Thanks!
Tesla won't look into at an integrated HUD in the near future. They already did. Elon thinks you don't need a HUD.
The referral code does not work. It says, “The minimum spend for this coupon is $499.00”. The HUD price is $349.00.
Pretty cool concept, but you're right about the wire. And also $350 woof..
I don’t want to hear about what’s the possibilities for the future. Tell me how it works now
I like the idea! Wondering how to get access to the OBD...connector....its tight down there...twss))
i want the HUD on the left side mirror so i can do neck stretches when i check the speed.
Have you learned of any other worthy HUD units for M3 or MY? I’d love to have this feature, but can’t find much recent info.
With my OCD, I would not be able to stand the wire. Today’s technology should allow a wireless connection. That would be worth an extra $100 to me.
But then it'll need to be charged
Polarized sunglasses? Every HUD i've used DO NOT work with polarized sunglasses making it useless on a sunny day.
Yuk. I too wouldn't mind a HUD, but not at the expense of the cutting edge look of the minimalistic dash.
I have purchased the Scanmytesla app and parts so no room for this one. But it is sick.
When is the version two expected to come out? Actually, the features and functionalities you mentioned seems to be very interesting. Thank you for the video, I will order the version 2 when it will be available on the market.
It already is, just ordered it...
@@jhermde Really!!? Nothing is written when ordering. Does this new version 2 come within an iOS application and a Bluetooth interface ?
Is it really that hard/dangerous to tilt your head or better yet move your eyeballs slightly to see the speed and other info?
Just look at linked page. Price is down to $249.
Why the cord ? What about a wireless connection between obd cable and hud ??????
Mr Frugal, For $350 you got to be kidding. I think $75 tops. Don't waist your money.
Do they have a version for Model X too?
I like that he has his feet on the ground but he keeps reaching for the stars.
I just wonder if there is any products you have been given, and you made a video where you say you don’t recommend it. ?
It is so ugly. Not for me. I love the puristic design of the car. I never had a thought about missing anything.
Has yours stopped working as well with the 2020.40 update?
Mine isn’t connected via Canbus. That being said, I no longer represent Hansshow and if I knew then what I know now about the company I would have never endorsed them. I’m really sorry that you’re having problems with your HUD and I hope Hansshow gets back to you on a fix.
@@FrugalTeslaGuy Do you know of another HUD with the same features?
I honestly don't get why Tesla doesn't just add this as a feature into the car. I know it sucks because there isn't really a speedometer dash for the 3, but they should make way somewhere. Looking to the right to know your speed all the time is tiring.
You didn't mention wearing polarized sunglasses completely (well almost) removes the projection from your view unless you move your head to find a weak spot in the sunglasses. I love HUD however this is a major issues for me
I noticed a little loss with my polarized sunglasses but can still clearly see the display.
It might sound a bit gibberish, but it is just another day at work for me 😎
Can you advise how and where this connects in to the cars wiring as it is suggested wiring is hidden.
For that kind of money, I'd expect a bluetooth setup (with a obd2 bt transmitter) without any wires.
This unit looks just like the Navdy heads up display. I had one and I loved it. Very cool tech, company when belly up beginning of 2019.
I have a £40 hud in my Moho which is great as a Fiat display is impossible to see. Works fine by reflecting on windscreen.
My PM3 has a great display I can easily see so I don’t need this. This is for owners who buy dice for the rear view mirror.
