I’m not saying you need to walk around the city 100% barefoot - there’s a reason for shoes (protection from glass, bacteria, etc). However I do think most would benefit from going barefoot more often & when shoes need to be worn, we wear shoes that mimic the barefoot experience!

Thank you for not advocating going barefoot. There are a lot of people who do that, and it's stupid. We started wearing shoes for a reason. They help limit injuries and infection. Barefoot shoes are great, though. I have 3 pairs of those.

Definitely don't use bare feet or even bare feet shoes if you're running on concrete. Our feet are not designed for that level of harsh impact over a long period.

Serious question. If I go barefoot for any extended period, I deal with tremendous lower back pain as well as foot pain. How does one address this when the Podiatrist recommends orthotics 👀

Going barefoot on flat surfaces is horrible for your feet. I highly recommend you notate that. It can cause numerous issues. There is no concrete in nature. Flat surfaces need supports.

Logo on the “good” shoe is Vivobarefoot. There are other brands that do what he’s saying but I switched to Vivo 11 months ago, and all of the things SquatUniversity said would happen did.
I had to take about 6 months to ease myself into it though. The first few months, my feet and calves would be super sore after wearing the shoes for even less than a full day, since they were weakened by mainstream shoes. I’m all in on them now though. You hear so many stories about old people falling because of poor balance, and I see everyone’s smushed toes and can’t help but think there’s a significant correlation.

We lost two clients and picked up 5. It's a small private gym and keeping it clean for all the clients is important.

      @@stevenkelby2169
they said "most" and also the car and surgery things are completely unrelated. Please don't strawman someone's argument.
There's a difference between "comfortable when you're resting" and "healthy while you're moving".
This whole channel is about the various ways we move our bodies wind up causing and perpetuating pain, and the answer, 95% of the time, is "there's a muscle that's weak and so you're subconsciously not using it, which means your body is moving in ways it wasn't evolved to move, and that's causing pain. So if you train the weak muscle then you will move the way your body was designed to, and you'll stop hurting".
So OP has a point. If you use artificial supports instead of training the muscles you're not using, you're just avoiding the (temporarily) uncomfortable solution to your problem.
This is not true in all cases, of course. But the existence of people who can't train and problems which cannot be solved by training, is not justification for you to avoid training, because they aren't you.

I need more content about foot health. Seriously I started developing a bunion before my 30th bday. In my twenties I spent a lot of time city walking and dancing in ridiculous footwear. At that time I discovered that I wiggle my toes as a stimming behavior, especially the left. After a night of partying and making art, I would often have blisters on my second toe knuckle from the friction of my big toe stim. Later in life I overwore a pair of hiking boots with poor design. Took my bunion pain to new heights. Now I try to wear barefoot shoes and limit my stints in poorly designed ones.

I'm pretty much barefoot all the time and I can attest to having wider feet, but I can also attest to having good balance now with all that said, this does not mean that you will not 100% have foot issues. It just means you're likely to have less. For example, I have weak ankles and the tendon under my foot is also very weak. So I still do need arch support and ankle support however, I don't suffer from a lot of other issues that many people that don't walk barefoot suffer from.

Our environment isn't natural and modern medicine has removed the possibility of dying from a cut turning septic (unless you're an idiot and don't look after them or get infections checked out). That being said, ain't no way in hell I'm going barefoot on modern streets, people are filthy scum and I'm not having my life ended from some junkie's abandoned needle.

You can do specific exercises to strengthen your feet. This channel has tons of great content about strengthening low arches that appear to be completely flat. Other channels you can take a look at would be The Barefoot Sprinter, Barefoot Strength, and Mark Bell’s power project.

Any advice on getting rid of foot tendinitis. Ran my first half marathon two weeks ago and my foot started to bother me afterwards. So unfortunately I had to take a break from running while it heals.

@ congrats on the run! Sorry to hear about the injury. I don’t have any specific suggestions. I’m just a construction worker who suffered with terribly painful plantar fasciitis
pains for a long time. But I found great help by watching videos about foot health from the TH-cam channels I named in my first comment. Just do a little searching on those channels with some key word and you find what you’re looking for. Mark Bell’s Power Project has had many professional endurance athletes on his show discussing how to create strong, healthy feet. And how to heal injury. I would look there first. His podcast is outstanding.

@ oh I see. Well I appreciate the reply and help anyway. I had plantar fasciitis also last year and I got help from the barefoot sprinter. He has a two week program for your feet and it’s completely free, you just have to put in your email. It took about 8 months but I don’t have plantar fasciitis anymore thankfully. Now I’m just dealing with this nagging injury on my other foot 🤦🏽‍♂️ I cannot win but I’m not giving up 💪🏽💪🏽. Appreciate your help 🙏🏽

What strengthened my feet was jump roping. My go-to cardio is weighted jump roping. Once I started wearing barefoot shoes while jumping, the muscle pain i received post jumping was significant in my feet as well as the bones and muscles from knees on down.
Before gaining strength in my feet, wearing barefoot shoes was a bit uncomfortable due to the lack of support. The new muscles in my feet have naturally created the support and padding needed to negate any need for additional support that barefoot shoes don't provide.

I wore barefoot shoes for about 4 years. I thought it was strengthening my feet, but it actually wore them down. I ended up getting plantar fasciitis and have to deal with foot pain now. I do love wide toe boxes, but I think the whole barefoot shoe industry is a scam. Just make supportive shoes with a wide toe box.

I am a country girl and when I was growing up from the age of 3 all the way up to the age of 25 I went there footed. I couldn't understand why I had to walk into a store with shoes on but now I can see why.
    😅😮
I remember that I would have to peel off the calluses on my feet. They were so thick and I could walk over rocks on a dirt road without any problems.
But I do have flat feed. It's because when I got older I walk. On flatser flat surfaces, if you're going to keep your feet strong healthy. Start walking barefooted everywhere. You go on different terrain.

I don’t think the shoes are the problem. I think bunion & hammertoes are related to hyperpronation syndrome (bioimplosion). The ankles roll in and the manifestation can cause all kind of musculoskeletal problems. Arch support helps those that have it but also must be addressed with muscle rebalancing exercises.
